Dr. Mark M. Johnston has been part of the local community for more than thirty years and continues to maintain the highest level of accreditation today as he did then. He is a lifelong student of dentistrypursuing ongoing education and keeping abreast of the latest techniques to bring his patients the best possible outcomes when under his care.

In our dental office, you can count on kind and compassionate dental professionals and a no-pressure atmosphere. We also emphasize patient education to help you make the best decisions for your oral health. Our team members want to answer your questions and address your concerns because we want you to feel confident in your choices.

Dr. Johnston grew up in Alma, MI and is one of eight children. He spent his college days in New Hampshire, where he graduated from Dartmouth College and later attended dental school in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan. After graduating in 1985, he moved to the Lansing area to establish his practice.

He was involved in sports during high school and college and currently loves to play golf and fly fish. He is also very activein local, state, and national dental organizations which occupy many of his volunteer hours outside of the office.

Susie grew up in northern Michigan around Gaylord. After graduating from the dental hygiene program at Lansing Community College, she started raising her children and farming with her husband on their family farm near St. Johns. Now that her kids are older she is happy to be back in the dental office and enjoys brightening her patients smiles, comparing hunting trophy photos, and working out on her lunch hour. Often quoted saying, I come to work for some peace and quiet' Susie is a mother of 5, a mother of six if you count her husband!

New to our office but not new to dentistry, Nichole has been in the dental field since 2010. She is a chairside assistant and also works in the business office helping patients sort out their dental benefits. Nichole loves to laugh and states that humor keeps her sanity in check.

She has two children that keep her quite busy. She enjoys camping with her family, boxing for exercise, and photography. You can often find her traveling around the state taking nature pictures. She loves the four seasons of Michigan and tries to capture all of them with her camera.

Mary is the senior member of the team, having graduated in the first graduating class in dental hygiene at Lansing Community College. A lifelong resident of Lansing, she probably knows someone in your family or at least a family friend. A true dedicated professional, she loves her craft and was told that she should have gone on to be a dentist but never had time in between working, teaching, and enjoying her many and varied hobbies. She loves to golf, fly fish, quilting, reading, and she may be found at a slot machine once in a while.

When first starting out in hygiene, Mary had a great friend and mentor that showed her how to be a true professional in her important role as a dental hygienist. Mary loves to share her skills when mentoring new graduates in a pay it forward manner. Thankfully her hands, wrists, back, and neck have not given her problems during her many years as a valued professional. She continues to work as she loves her patients and may own one of every Apple product out there!

General dentistry provides the treatments you need to restore your oral health when an issue arises. This includes tooth-colored dental fillings, root canal treatments, periodontal treatments, and even tooth replacement.

First impressions are critical, and an attractive smile is maybe one of the most crucial aspects of that first impression. If you do not like the color of your teeth or the spacing of your teeth, please ask when you come in for your visit what your options are for improving your smile.

The choices vary from whitening your teeth to covering your teeth with composite material or porcelain. If you need some minor teeth rearrangement, this can also be done with crowns or veneers rather than orthodontic treatment in a more time-efficient manner.

Lets say you have one tooth that is dark from a previous root canal treatment. This is not unusual as when a tooth loses the blood supply, the red blood cells coat the inside of the tooth, and since the tooth is somewhat transparent, the tooth will appear darker. One treatment that works well is internal bleaching of the just that tooth. Just as a white shirt may be bleached in the laundry, a single tooth that has had a root canal can be bleached from the inside. This helps that tooth closely match your other teeth.

However, all dental materials serve a purpose, and in certain situations, one material is far better than another. Fortunately, in most cases in dentistry, the patient has a choice of material, and many times there is a cost difference. If you have concerns about any of the filling materials, please ask. If one material is better, you will be informed of that fact, and you and Dr. Mark Johnston will come to a decision based on sound information.

We can also use the materials that create tooth-colored fillings to correct flaws on a tooth or teeth. This is an inexpensive and noninvasive technique called dental bonding. And a dental crown is an excellent option for concealing damage and discoloration.

Many patients find as they get older that they finally have the time and can afford to go ahead and change their smile to something they can be proud to show off. When they were younger, they had other priorities, or maybe their family had to come first. Now the children are out of the house, and it is time to do something positive for themselves.

Frequently cosmetic dentistry can be spread out over time to be more budget-friendly and take advantage of dental benefits or HSA accounts. The first step is to develop a plan with the dentist, so everyone knows what the desired end result is, and then partition the project up into phases so that it can be accomplished over time.

Best dental experience I've had. Professional and friendly. The work I had done was pain-free (which I was worried about), I am very happy.

I have been a patient of Doctor Johnston's since before I can remember. Now both of my children are as well and we LOVE his practice. Doctor J has always been very good about explaining everything he is doing and why it is necessary. He and his staff listen to your concerns and work with you to come up with the best solution for you. I never feel that I'm being rushed through and when I've had to cancel or move an appointment they are always willing to work with you. My family and I have always felt that they all care about what they do and that it is about more than just making money.
