Dr. Easter grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa. He attended undergraduate and dental school at the University of Iowa, graduating from the College of Dentistry in 1991. Dr. Easter was a recipient of the College of Dentistry's Operative Dentistry award in recognition of his professional, clinical, and scholarly achievements in dental school.
After graduation, Dr. Easter completed a yearlong Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, California. Following the residency, he served for five more years as a general dentist for the Air Force in Europe and California. In 1998, Dr. Easter moved back to Iowa and started Johnston Dental. He has received advanced training at the Dawson Academy in TMJ disorders and restorative dentistry and also has received advanced training on aesthetic dentistry, dental implants, endodontics, and oral surgery.
In addition to his time at Johnston Dental, Dr. Easter serves as an adjunct faculty member working with senior dental students on their clinical training in the Family Dentistry Department at the University of Iowa. Dr. Easter enjoys his profession, golfing, and time spent with family and friends.
Dr. Kennedy is originally from Dyersville, IA. She attended Loras College in Dubuque, IA, for undergraduate and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology. She then went on to dental school at the University of Iowa graduating in 1992. After graduation, she took a position at Broadlawns Hospital. In 1994, she began in private practice and joined Johnston Dental in 2000.
Dr. Palmer grew up in Beaverdale and graduated from Dowling High School. She attended undergraduate and dental school at the University of Iowa, graduating from dental school in 1992. After graduation, she moved to Hawaii and practiced at a community health center, Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. While in Hawaii she met her husband, Paul, who was stationed on Oahu. They moved several times in his career including duty stations to Fort Leavenworth, KS, Fort Bragg, NC, Vicenza, Italy, and Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Palmer practiced at each of these locations, either in private practice or for the military. Their last duty station was back in Oahu where Dr. Palmer became dental director at Aloha Medical Mission. Upon her husband's retirement from active duty, they returned to Dr. Palmer's hometown. Since returning, Dr. Palmer has been at Broadlawns Medical Center and in private practice.
Dr. Palmer has also been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa since 2009. Dr. Palmer has two children, Aidan and Nadia. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and traveling.

I called for a new patient appointment with a dental emergency and they got me in the same day. The staff was very friendly, thorough, and knowledgeable! Would definitely recommend!

Had a fear of the dentist. Had a chipped tooth and 3 dentist said I needed a veneer. Dr, Joan Gannon-Palmer was able to fixed my chipped tooth! Also got a cleaning and teeth whitened for WAY less than one veneer! Thanks to all who helped!

Dr. Easter and the whole staff are amazing. He is thorough, professional and kind. I recommend Dr. Easter for whitening services, tough dental issues, and routine maintenance. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Our family of 5 have been patients' of Dr. Easter for almost 20 years and I cannot recommend him enough. He is so personable and great with children. Our kids' teeth have turned out perfect. Dr. Easter has been so responsive over the years. When my wife required treatment after cracking a tooth, he stopped what he was doing on a Saturday and met us in the office to fix it. The tooth looks great to this day. I truly appreciate his educational approach to dentistry and his background as an instructor at University of Iowa dental school. If you're looking for one of the best in the Des Moines metro, Dr. Easter would be a wonderful fit.

Dr. Easter is the best! As a dental hygienist working in the field, I am very picky as to which dentist I trust to work on my teeth. Dr. Easter is a perfectionist and he does what is right for the patient, not what makes his practice the most money. He recently completed orthodontic treatment ( braces ) along with minor cosmetic work on my anterior ( front ) teeth. I have had so many compliments about my smile in the past week. I can smile with confidence and I have Dr. Easter to thank for that. BONUS- all his staff are professional and talented in their area of expertise.
