Continuing to visit your family dentist once every six months for routine cleanings and dental check-ups is vital, even during your orthodontic treatment. We will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist if your teeth are in need of extra dental care. We only want you to be comfortable and confident that your teeth can and will receive the best care possible.
Dr. Cole Johnson was born and raised in good ol Salem, Oregon. After graduating from Sprague High School as the 1999 Mr. Olympian, he went on to do other less-public, less-embarrassing things. He went to a small college in Idaho to play football but ended up with a scholarship on the track team after the football coaches saw how his quick feet, sure hands, and slightly effeminate build crumpled under the weight of your garden-variety Tongan linebacker.
In 2005, Dr. Johnson graduated summa cum laude (Latin for way smarter than those other show-offs, especially Kevin Ling) with a degree in biochemistry from Brigham Young University-Idaho. He was also given the Universitys highest honor, BYU-Idahos Man of the Year Award, for his leadership and academic and community involvement. It sounds a little dumb to win that kind of pretentious award, but they threw in a Free Slurpee punchcard at the local Circle K, so he nobly accepted it.
Dr. Johnson received his dental training from Oregon Health & Science University. There, his academic excellence was recognized and he received a butt-load of super awesome accolades. He served as President of the OHSU Student Research Group, was voted OHSU Student Mentor of the year, and founded the Universitys first Spanish-speaking dental and medical students association. Dr. J also received the Outstanding Oral Biology Student Award, graduating at the top of his dental class with High Honors. Again, pretty snobby stuff, but its important that you know about all this stuff BEFORE you meet him so youll give him a chance even if he trips, or his fly is down, or he accidentally refers to your first-born little princess as your granddaughter.
Anyway, after receiving his dental degree from Oregon Health & Science University, he was selected to attend the prestigious Virginia Commonwealth University for his Orthodontic residency. There he received an additional two years of specialized post-graduate training in orthodontics and maxillofacial orthopedics. Besides conventional braces Dr. J also has training in cleft-lip/palate patients, habit appliances and Invisalign. And, as a chronic overachiever, he also earned a masters degree in oral biology along the way. Take that, Kevin Ling.
Dr. Cole has a teeny-tiny version of a life outside of his work at Johnson Family Orthodontics. Hes got six of the sweetest kids ever and the worlds most amazing wife and high school sweetheart, Daisha. Nothing gives Dr. Johnson more joy than playing the ukulele with his oldest daughter, Macie; coaching his son Dominics football team; and taking his baby girls (Tessa, Claire & Alice) on walks to find bugs. He accidentally had ANOTHER child recently (his name is Anthony but he goes by Antonio, Chubby-Cups, AJ, Antoine-Merriwether, and simply the Fat Kid) and its not a big secret that this boy is the light of his life. Baby Antonio is his most trusted sidekick and seldom leaves his Dads side unless hes poopy. In which case Dr. J strategically places him next to the heater vent upwind of his wife so that shell smell him and change him forthwithly. He enjoys playing guitar and singing in his band, watching football with his brothers, and staring creepily at his ridiculously cute wife, Daisha, while she folds laundry. Dr. Johnsons family is his life and his true happiness is the relationships he has with the many amazing members of the Salem community. He is insufferably happy. Its actually pretty irritating. Especially to the Lingswho are probably visiting Kevin in prison somewhere.

JFO is the most amazing place to get braces. We have been going here for the past 2+ years and every time we go, we are greeted with smiles and Kindness and Dr J is absolutely the best. He is so good at making the kiddos laugh and keeping the appointments fun.

I broke my wire retainer that I've had since I had my braces in high school. I called their office in near tears trying to find someone to take care of the retainer and work with my schedule. Not only did they get me in almost immediately, they removed the broken retainer for free and helped me out with new invisalign retainers. My girls are going to need braces soon, I'll be bringing them here.

Such a great and friendly team! They were able to fix my bonded retainer so i didn't have to make a trip to my original orthodontist a few hours away. They were also very speedy and efficient with their time; highly recommend!

Johnson Family Orthodontics is phenomenal! It must be an awesome place to work, too, because EVERYONE there is always laughing and smiling. The care my son received there was so personal and phenomenal that my husband also decided to finally get braces. 2 perfect smiles later and we cannot say enough good things about this practice. Dr. J and his team at JFO have been incredible to both of our kids! Both have had treatment with braces to align their teeth and bite and are now into retainers with beautiful, confident smiles to display each and every day. It's always a treat to visit the office, where care and fun is clearly the culture which helps ease any anxious feelings the child may be experiencing. Regular appointments are quick and easy. The treatment schedule went as planned and communication between all members of the team is always clear. When we've had an unexpected ortho emergency (broken wire, lost tooth, damaged retainer), JFO has always been super responsive and fit us in for a visit when needed. We have loved our experience with JFO! My young daughter got her braces on at 8 years old and felt overwhelmed and a bit scared at the beginning of the process but quickly became so comfortable with the doctors and staff who cared for her. They were always so kind and helped put her at ease during each appointment. By the end, she looked forward to going and picking out her new rubber band colors and her younger siblings loved the game room while we waited! We're thankful for the entire wonderful team at JFO!

This place is really great! All the people are so nice and welcoming and it feels like they actually care about your well being. Dr. Jonson gave me the nick name Antonio and called me that throughout the whole time he's helped me with my braces.
