We began as La Cumbre Dental in 1963 with Dr. Gary Johnson Sr. In 2001, Dr. Steven Johnson purchased his fathers practice and renamed it Johnson Family Dental. Since then we have grown with two additional offices in Ventura and Solvang. This year we area celebrating our 50th anniversary and could not be more proud and humbled to be serving the Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Okay dentists, horrible administration. On multiple occasions, I have gone to Johnson family dental and have been presented with a bill that is different than the one I had initially signed. Along with this, they don't charge you on the day of your visit, and instead send you a bill MONTHS later. If you don't pay this bill (which you can't online, since their portal is down), you are quickly SENT TO COLLECTIONS WITHOUT NOTIFICATION. This isn't a hospital, and sending me a bill later with no way to pay it is unacceptable. Additionally, my fiancee needed a dentist appointment and the soonest they could fit her in was in months. Then they proceeded to forget/delete her appointment, and tried to schedule it again months later! Overall, just go somewhere else.

Avoid at all cost as their service has severely deteriorated compared to what it was in the past. Where to begin with this place, and I mean all JFD locations. First and what's the biggest concern, I was prescribed penicillin when it is documented that I am allergic to this. I requested IV sedation for my dental implant and when I called the same day to ask what I need to do to prepare for this, they tell me the doctor wasn't aware of this and isn't prepared for the IV sedation during my procedure and we would need to reschedule. Their hours are not updated anywhere. Google, their website, and their voicemail recording all they open at 8:00 a.m. but when I show up at 8:00 nobody's at the office. Their recording explicitly states they are open every first and third Saturday of the month and again when I show up on the third Saturday they are closed. Don't even bother leaving a message because they won't call you back. I've had multiple appointments for different types of procedures rescheduled at the last minute even though I received a text confirmation the same day they rescheduled. Zero reliability. I had my Invisalign appointment cancelled at the last minute for them to say my only option to see my orthodontist that I've been seeing for 2 years is to drive all the way out to Solvang. I call the Solvang office to get this sorted out ,and they say they'll call me back, but guess what I never received a call back. Edit: After posting my review here and on Yelp, Dr. Doan called me personally to seemingly check on the status of my healing after a missed follow up appointment for a dental implant. After I told him the healing was going good and the surgery went well, he proceeded to ask me why I didn't include that in the review, and then disputed the fact that he prescribed be penicillin even though I'm allergic. He told me the allergy wasn't on file, even though I asked for paper & electronic copies of all my records showing my allergy was on file before notifying the office of his mistake. After I told him this, he then told me they asked me about my allergy after the surgery and I said "I didn't have one" even though they didn't ask me anything, and even if they did it's the doctor's responsibility to go off of what's on file not what the patient tells them after having a metal rod drilled into their jaw. Extremely unprofessional, and shady at best.

Scheduled a teeth cleaning, went in for my appointment, had a question about one of the forms they gave me to sign, the receptionist responded with "are you gonna sign it or not". That was pretty unbelievable to me. Then they took x rays and started talking about wisdom teeth being removed and all these things they wanted to do even though they said my teeth look good. Once they informed me that I would not be getting my teeth cleaned I stood up and walked out. DO NOT COME HERE.

I beg patients to take a little time to read this review. This place is dangerous, and I say that as someone very sympathetic to healthcare workers. I hit my front teeth and went in for a consultation. The dentist saw me for 5 minutes and said we'll have to wait and see if the teeth is dead in a few months. He performed no diagnostic tests, only looked at them visually. I went to Dr Ben Laudig for a second opinion. In contrast, he saw me for 20 minutes. In addition to an X ray, he placed a cold tool on my teeth and found that they were insensitive, meaning all the nerves were gone. He took time to explain that the blood vessels and pulp in my teeth have started dying and will begin to rot. I got a root canal the next week. I don't even know what would have happened if I had waited. This place is very corporate. I have never seen the same dentist twice. Find another location.

Nice facility (State St). Good dentist and assistants. Would have received 5 stars except for gross, inexcusable, overcharging and broken promises on refund. They are part of larger corporate web (Smile Brands). I had to call several times and get my insurer involved before they begrudgingly issued refund. Untrustworthy.

Very poor service, I would not recommend Johnson Family Dental to anyone. Don't expect them to communicate with you once they have your money: my quote went up more than twice after I signed a contract with them. The office manager went completely mute when I requested an explanation and a refund for services not rendered. Beware of these people!

Any decent company redoes their work for free, if they did not do a good job. Well, not this place... If two fillings fall out within a year of them being placed, then the work was not done properly. But did Johnson Family Dental redo the work for free? No. Did they offer a discount? No. Did the insurance pay up? No, because fillings need to last longer than a year! - Choose your dentist carefully!

The staff and doctors at Johnson Family Dental are incredible. They are so friendly and welcoming, which definitely helps when being nervous about going to the dentist. They truly care for their patients and I trust they are taking good care of me. Highly recommend this office!

Don't let the reviews deceive you. This place will purposely mess up anything involved with your insurance. Me and my gf both went at separate times and we both had issues regarding how much we were gonna be charged. According to my insurance johnson's never sent the x-ray that was needed to process my insurance. We both tried calling the office but they never answer. The hygienist Emma was great though she did a great job cleaning my teeth but unfortunately she is no longer there. The bad rep is known throughout the locals here in SB i would recommend going somewhere else

I'm a person that actually enjoys going to the dentist but this place is absolutely trash. The staff seems to be under trained and unorganized. Honestly Come here at your own risk, they won't help you and then charge you a hand and a leg.

Been going here for a few years and initially didn't have any issues. I had many fillings done and they were quick and easy. However, I had a root canal and a crown replaced last year and am not happy with the results. Have some lingering pain after the root canal and the new crown is loose. Also had a bad experience where i was quoted far less than what the root canal procedure turned out to be. Currently looking for a new dentist. I don't normally leave negative reviews but i wish I had seen something like this before I came here.

"Johnson family dental is head and shoulders above the rest! I've always hated having to visit the dentist. But the staff here is so nice and accommodating! They are extremely knowledgeable and patient and explaining to me the procedures and taking the time to spread out the dates. Last year They fixed 2 infected teeth and saved my bone by putting in a graph all in an 8 hour notice. I have a lot of procedures ahead of me and am confident I'm with the right dental family." I originally had posted this review and was happy to write it u till the billing department completed destroyed all of the great work the staff had done!!! Not only did they over charge me but they sent me two more bills after they told me that we had been payed up to date. Another $1200 more then quoted...... then I asked why, and got zero response. Then they sent me to collections!! Wow! I'm bummed to revise this review when the staff was so great in the beginning.. The billing was triple charged and laughs at you when you ask simple questions, well it's not professional and very demeaning.. Money was never the issue.. I would been happy to pay the totals but anytime I asked there was more and more being added after we would pay the next bill and the next bill and the next bill. Each time we paid a bill we were told that we were paid up to date, this was seven months after we had received the procedure. Mr. Johnson is an incredible guy and an inspiration in the dental field However his billing staff was extremely rude and made up charges month after month even though the procedure was 7 months before and we paid in fulllll... I wanted them to consider the fact that they made mistakes with the billing however they laughed at me on numerous occasions and continued to charge me over and over.

One star for the time they make you wait here . I have been in there waiting for hours in lobby and the dental chair. It has happened numerous occasions and each time some one says sorry were over booked and are behind! I believe the motto must be " book as many people as possible" like cattle and make them wait . I do want to say the only reason why I keep coming back , which I think I'm done and going elsewhere is because of Dr. Laverty. Dr.L is the best dentist i have ever had ! His manners, work, softness of work is exemplary. He gets 7 stars . My daughters last visit , who has a phobia already was waiting in dental chair for 58 minutes , before she even got a shot to numb . Unacceptable ..
