We began as La Cumbre Dental in 1963 with Dr. Gary Johnson Sr. In 2001, Dr. Steven Johnson purchased his fathers practice and renamed it Johnson Family Dental. Since then we have grown with two additional offices in Ventura and Solvang. This year we area celebrating our 50th anniversary and could not be more proud and humbled to be serving the Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Quality and continuity of care has taken a dive in the last 6-12 months. with turnover of staff & generally poor availability of providers. Seek care elsewhere, holding out for quality and continuity of care.

I've been a customer of Johnson Family Dental for nearly 20 years, starting with their location off of Via Lucero. Last year I transferred from the State St location to the Goleta location 'cause it's closer to my home and I had become disappointed with the poor customer service and appointment snapfus at the State St. location. Late last year, I had my first appointment at the Goleta location and it was fantastic. In June of this year I was told that my hygienist had left and that they were down to a single hygienist and that my appointment had been rescheduled for December '22. I am now actively looking for another dentist. I understand that the Goleta location and State St. locations are run independently. Still, I'm actively recommending to all my friends and acquaintances to avoid Johnson Family Dental. I will never go back. I'm ashamed for not having left years ago. Somehow Johnson Family Dental has made something as monotonous and predictable as going to the dentist into a complete hassle and a total time sink.

I'm not sure why but Johnson family dental can't keep thier orthodontist. They keep canceling my child's appointment because they orthodontist keeps quitting. They want to send me out of town. I didn't pay to go out of town. They keep canceling appointments and when I call to reschedule they keep giving me the same answer they don't have appointments available... super bad service...

Avoid at all cost as their service has severely deteriorated compared to what it was in the past. Where to begin with this place, and I mean all JFD locations. First and what's the biggest concern, I was prescribed penicillin when it is documented that I am allergic to this. I requested IV sedation for my dental implant and when I called the same day to ask what I need to do to prepare for this, they tell me the doctor wasn't aware of this and isn't prepared for the IV sedation during my procedure and we would need to reschedule. Their hours are not updated anywhere. Google, their website, and their voicemail recording all they open at 8:00 a.m. but when I show up at 8:00 nobody's at the office. Their recording explicitly states they are open every first and third Saturday of the month and again when I show up on the third Saturday they are closed. Don't even bother leaving a message because they won't call you back. I've had multiple appointments for different types of procedures rescheduled at the last minute even though I received a text confirmation the same day they rescheduled. Zero reliability. I had my Invisalign appointment cancelled at the last minute for them to say my only option to see my orthodontist that I've been seeing for 2 years is to drive all the way out to Solvang. I call the Solvang office to get this sorted out ,and they say they'll call me back, but guess what I never received a call back.

Johnson Family Dental. I have been going there for teeth cleanings since I moved here about 4 years ago. About a week ago my appointment that I had for 6 months, saying they had 1 hygienist that quit, and their next available appointment would be till January or March 2023!! How is that possible?!!! They can't give priority to their repeat clients who had an appointment from 6 months ago!! I call and they don't answer, I leave messages and they just don't respond. what I have to wait another another 6 months just so they can cancel again? This is just ridiculous. People need dentists, either they're not paying their employees well that they all quit, or they have just completely stop caring about their customer service standards. Do not go to this dentist.

Dr. Doan was amazing and gentle with my husband's wisdom tooth extraction. The music selection was just what he likes and the staff kept him calm.

I used to love Johnson Family Dental. I have been going there for teeth cleanings since I moved to town 3 years ago. Recently in May 2022 they just cancelled my appointment that I had for 6 months, saying they had 1 hygenist that quit, and their next available appointment would be in November. How is that possible? They can't give priority to their repeat clients who had a standing appointment from 6 months ago and they make them wait another 6 months? I work in the hotel business, if a hotel cancels on you, they find you other lodging and pay for it. This dentist office didn't even help me reschedule or give my any sort of priority/alternative options/compensation. They just put me on a wait list, and would call me if anyone cancels last minute. If your business has a staffing issue, make it work: Extend your office hours, open 7 days a week, give your staff overtime pay, cross train the team, hire some temporary help from another office, or have the main Dentist themselves clean teeth for their clients. At least until they catch up with existing appointments. It seems they didn't even try. They just shrugged. Very poor customer service.

They're friendly and genuinely nice when I've spoken to them, however; they have canceled on me twice and been waiting to get my teeth cleaned for well over a year now maybe even 2. It's been so long at this point now, I forgot.

Where do I start? I came to Johnson Dental family at this location as it is near my home a few year back when I still had dental insurance to used. And Last Year, I need a cleaning teeth, and also filling my front tooth that chip off, but I did not have a dental insurance, so I was going to book an appointment away and wanted to pay out of pocket cost as I couldn't walk around with a hole in my smile.). The office told me I can not do a cleaning or got a filling rightway without making first appointment for just an exam check up(X-ray) first and then go from there. On my first appointment for check up and X-ray,, They talked me into some kind of smile dentist plan for $79 they provide for patient who don't have insurance f. The $79 plan is included 2 free cleaning teeth per year and discount on other services. Well I thought ok it is reasonable, so I bought it. That day I paid for $79 for the plan and got free exam( which normally the office sent out Fly to my house offer it free anyway without the smile dental plan I just bought). I told the front desk I need schedule a cleaning appointment beside the filling teeth appointment, they said the cleaning teeth appointment were all booked up until next year 2022 . I only can book appointment for come back fill my teeth which I did and paid for. Since my smile dental plan will be expired on September 2022, and they said they all booked until 2022, so Today I called back to make appointment to cleaning teeth and filling teeth. They gave me the same Song like last year they did in September==}cleaning teeth appointment are all booked up until November_2022. And saying They can schedule me to see dentist for Exam first, but not Cleaning appointment as they all booked out for cleaning teeth until November. All they can schedule appointment for me is see dentist for Exam, as the dentist last year who gave me partial treatment is no longer with them. The front desk woman hang up on me while we was in the middle conversation of scheduling appointment. I called back and told them about the smile plan and it's expired day and I never got even one cleaning teeth as they told me since I bought the plan. all they said that there is nothing they can do. Both woman at front desk are rude. One of them even lie to me about their name after I ask about speaking to manager. I asked to speak to manager, they said manager is on maternity leave, there is no one manager there.( APRIL 26_ at 9:00_9:30am). I asked to speak with whoever in charge and their contact information. They didn't provide me. They told me to call smile dental plan. Well if they told me the plan was third party from the start , I wouldn't want to buy it. If you intended not to provide the truth service as you SANG to your customers' ear from the start, then don't try to sell your service plan.

Pros: The staff is friendly and professional. The wait time in office is low. They are good at their jobs. Cons: Their schedule is RIDICULOUS. I'm doing my Invisalign through them and get my dental work done with them. I have been on the same trays of my Invisalign for 4 months! They have my new trays, they just don't have time to adjust my attachments and give me my trays so I'm stuck wearing weekly trays for over 4 months. The orthos are only there occasionally so availability is less than minimal and they can't do the work in a different one of their offices because "their systems are different". The dentists and cleanings are the same. I needed to reschedule my cleaning that was the middle of March and the next availability they have is August. At that point it will have been a year. They will call you if anyone cancels but that doesn't happen because everyone knows there's no openings. Don't start your care here if you have any kind of life or schedule that is not 100% chill and flexible.

I love JFD! The staff is very friendly and so are the Dentists and Hygienists. I've been very pleased with the service. I've had crowns replaced and now have more confidence when smiling.

I love the staff at JFD! Everyone I've met at the office has been very friendly and professional - It's the kind of place where you can tell that everyone gets along and enjoys what they do. I just got a dental implant, and Dr. Doane did a great job with every step of the process. Communication was great, procedures were efficient and surprisingly painless, and the staff was very helpful at answering my questions and keeping in touch regarding appointments. 10/10; Would recommend them to anyone looking for dental care :D
