Dr. Bowman is a Florida native,having grownup in Delray Beach. After college he attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Following dental school he was accepted into a coveted residency position in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Cleveland, Ohio at MetroHealth Medical Center and the prestigous Cleveland Clinic. In addition to completing the residency training, he also completed a medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and spent an additional year training in general surgery. In medical school he received honors in general surgery, psychiatry, otolaryngology - head and neck surgery, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery.
After residency he practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery in Hanover, New Hampshire, the home of Dartmouth College. In the summer of 2009 he returned home to south Florida. His surgical interests include wisdom tooth extraction, placement of dental implants, bone grafting, and oral pathology.

After teeth extraction, its crucial to follow the care guidelines provided by the oral surgeon, otherwise dry socket may occur. John T. Bowman, DMD, MD, is your Boca Raton oral surgeon who extracts teeth and provides treatment for dry socket. At our practice, we do our best to protect all patients in-office and when they return home after their procedure. We thoroughly educate patients on their post-care routine and do all possible to avoid dry socket.
After teeth extraction, whether standard or for wisdom teeth, a clot forms inside the site. This clot protects inner structures such as the bone from exposure to bacteria and food particles. The week following their procedure, patients need to be careful not to knock the clot loose, as the extraction area is still healing. Clots can be removed in a few ways including vigorous hygiene, physical activity, or sometimes it dissolves on its own. The newly-exposed area is known as dry socket, which can be a source of discomfort and infection to any extraction patient.
If patients experience dry socket, its important to inform Dr. Bowman or the referring general dentist of the clots removal. They can deliver the appropriate treatment to prevent infection, and monitor the site as it heals over. Some key symptoms of dry socket include:
Hard foods, or those that are too hot, are uncomfortable to eat in the immediate days following teeth removal. Eat soft, easily chewable food items that will not cause chunks of food to get stuck in the socket. Mashed potatoes and seedless smoothies are popular options, and your oral surgeon can recommend additional diet ideas.
Do not brush extraction sites until cleared to do so by Dr. Bowman or your dentist, as it will loosen the clot. Instead, continue to brush and floss existing teeth and also rinse out extraction sites. Use a syringe to gently push out any food material and use medication as directed. If you need further instruction on your oral care, be sure to rely on your medical professionals.
Dry socket can be painful and leave extraction sites open to infection. When patients see Dr. Bowman for their dry socket issues, he ensures their safety and healing. With a careful cleaning procedure, he will remove any food debris or source of potential infection. Then, he may perform additional treatment as necessary. In some cases, usually, those where oral health is not taken care of, antibiotics may be prescribed. No matter the reason for your dry socket, Dr. Bowman will resolve any issues or discomfort and strive to protect your oral health.

Dr Bowman is an excellent oral surgeon. Very kind and passionate about his work. My daughter wants to be an orthodontist and Dr Bowman spent a long time talking about it. I would never go anywhere else. He's the BEST!!!

If you or your child needs their wisdom teeth removed, I couldn't recommend Dr. Bowman more. First off, his staff were friendly and helpful. They explained all my potential costs over the phone, explained each charge and why. When I went in, they were even friendly and helped calm my nerves. Dr. Bowman had incredible bedside manner and helped calm me by asking what I do for work and how this procedure might affect it. When I did schedule my procedure, I ended up having to reschedule and they were extremely understanding and scheduled me asap. Then when it came to the procedure. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. I never even swole up and my pain was minor. He did a wonderful job and his experience showed thru my relatively relaxed recovery. Please look no where else if you are Boca local worried about looking for an experienced oral surgeon.

Dr. Bowman and his staff are great! I had my wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago and was extremely anxious going in for the consult. After speaking to Dr. Bowman, I felt instantly calmer. He walked me through the procedure and answered all my questions. I went into the procedure knowing I was in good hands. It was all very quick and I'm already feeling back to normal. I would definitely recommend Dr. Bowman and his team!

Dr Bowman is awesome. My daughter got her 4 wisdom teeth out. We needed his help on the weekend and he didn't hesitate. Try finding a doctor on a Sunday night, forever grateful, ty for being there when we needed you.

Wonderful oral surgeon. Makes you feel relaxed. I have very strong roots but he removed with no problems. A little soreness after extraction and following day painless. Only took 2 tylenol after extraction. Would definitely recommend. His asst and receptionist are also A1

Dr. Bowman is not only the best dentist I've ever had, but the best surgeon and doctor and person. He made me so comfortable, I had a VERY complicated procedure that could have affected me for the rest of my life. He expertly operated and and my healing process was incredible, and fast. He was there every step of the way, before during and after. Spectacular bedside manner. The staff is friendly, attentive and kind. For a while I had postponed having my wisdom teeth surgery because I was nervous but I am glad I found Dr. Bowman. The surgery was a breeze and so was my recovery. 5 STARS

I recently had an operation by Dr. Bowman. He is such a kind and wonderful doctor who knows how to make you feel comfortable with the process. I know any type of surgery for myself is always a bit worrisome but his whole team, the sweet nurses to the wonderful ladies at the front desk, are there with true genuine care for you and your specific circumstances. I would recommend to anyone and figured I would encourage those who are on the fence about picking out the right doctor for you.

Excellent experience! I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted under general anesthesia, they were running behind when I arrived at the office but they kept open communication and were very apologetic for keeping in the waiting room so long. Once they had me in the back op they moved very quickly and explained everything while they were going, Dr. B was very calm and Maria had a kind way of checking in with me while everything was getting started. Everything went well while I was under and when I came to they were very prepared with a nurse who gave verbal and written instructions on how to care for my mouth over the next few days/weeks, they had my boyfriend in the op when I woke up and did not make me feel obligated to get up and get out of the office quickly. Great place/staff/experience!
