He practiced for 23 years on York Road in Towson. In 1999, he sold his practice to enter the ministry, graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2002. He served churches in Virginia, Northeast Philadelphia, and Churchville, Maryland for over 10 years, practicing dentistry part-time during that time.
Dr. Markel has beena member of the American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Association, Anne Arundel County Dental Society, International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine, and the Holistic Dental Association.
Dr. Markel enjoys all aspects of general dentistry. He treats young folks and grownups alike with his gentle, relaxed chairside manner. He has a special interest in orthodontics, Invisalign treatment, and craniofacial orthopedics.
Dr. Markel enjoys barbershop quartet singing, chorus directing, sports (hes an avid Orioles and Ravens fan), and camping. He also likes to dabble in publishing newsletters, and he still has the itch to drive airplanes.
Robin is an R.N. and has worked as an ICU nurse for over 30 years before coming to work with us. She's enjoying getting to know our terrific patients and is eager to help with dental questions and concerns. Patients really enjoy when she comes out to the patient lounge just to chat a bit.
Karen is our wonderful hygienist. She worked over 15 years in her father-in-law's dental practice and on his retirement we were fortunate to have her come here. She quickly became more than an employee butpart of our family. All our patients have enjoyed having Karen treat them with her kindness, gentleness and enthusiasm!
Susan is our newest staff member (and camera shy at the moment, but we'll be fixing that soon!). She also has over 15 years experience in dentistry and has settled in as an excellent fit in our practice especially with her outgoing personality.

Let's face it, nobody likes going to the Dentist. Dr Markel and his team were able to rush me in for emergency service. They were extremely caring, friendly and professional. Definitely the best dentist I've ever visited.

Dr. Markel and his amazing wife Robin - are highly experienced professionals! I just started going to them and already had three fillings which I am very grateful for - well done, with no pain! Actually, we were having a great time fixing my teeth :) Now I feel much happier and if I may say, protected that they are checked and fixed on time :) I will definitely recommend John S. Markel, DDS to my family and friends. However, in reality, my family members were lucky enough to be the first who found and got to know those amazing people before me! So grateful for this dentist office! A family run business, with the super friendly wife at the front desk and the husband as the dentist. A great atmosphere, and an intimate office where they will really get to know you and treat you like family. The hygienists are always extremely thorough and I leave with my teeth feeling like a million bucks. If you are looking for a personal dentist experience and not a cold, run of the mill, large practice, this is the place you need to be.

Dr. Markel was refered to me by a friend. I'm a big baby when it comes to dentistry. Had to have a filling re-done, best experance with a dentist ever. Everyone was friendly & helpful I will refer him to all I know.

this dentists wife said said they don't have to provide n95 masks and PPE to their employees. she said they only provide"paychecks" not very professional.
