Dr. Hammen is a native of Mexico, Missouri but moved to Owensboro at age 12. He graduated from Daviess Co. High School and went to college at the University of Kentucky. He graduated with honors with a bachelor degree in biology. He then stayed in Lexington receiving his doctor of dental medicine from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He was then accepted into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati.
At this time, he received extensive training in dentoalveolar surgery, anesthesia, trauma, reconstructive bone grafting, implants and medicine. In the last year of the 4 year program, he served as chief resident caring for patients at the University Hospital, Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center and the VA Hospital.
Dr. Hammen is a board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS). He is also a member of the Kentucky Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (KSOMS), American Dental Association (ADA), Kentucky Dental Association (KDA), and the Green River Dental Society.

The office staff was very friendly and informative. Dr. Hammen was extremely professional, very informative, and very kind. My daughter was terrified to have her wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Hammen and the staff kept her calm and relaxed and made her laugh. Appreciate you all!!!!! Thanks so much.

I was really nervous to have a tooth pulled. Dr. Hammen and his staff were wonderful. They listened to my concerns and put my mind to ease before ever starting the procedure. They were very kind and competent. Although I hope I never need another tooth extracted, I do know I would want them to do it if I did. They were TOP NOTCH!

Dr. Hammen and his staff and the best. Less than a week ago I had 9 teeth pulled , 4 surgically removed. He did a great job Everything is healing well. I have used Dr. Hammen many times in my journey to get a full set of dentures. If you need the service Dr. Hammen and his staff over call. You won't regret it.

Last year I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and it was a pretty fast procedure. Friendly staff, and I was assured everything would go smoothly. I recommend then for anyone needing teeth removed.

I cannot thank Dr. Hammen and his staff enough. My son had all 4 of his wisdom teeth extracted. We were greeted with friendly staff and Dr. Hammen was equally as nice. He discussed every step of the procedure and made it a much better experience than anticipated. As my son would say(while still under a little sedation) Dr. Hammen was the best! Mom did I tell you Dr. Hammen is the best. By the way mom, Dr. Hammen is the best. Thank you once again.

I just recently had several teeth removed by John Hammen DMD. I have anxiety issues especially about going to the dentist. Dr. Hammen and his whole staff were wonderful. They took such good care of me and made me very comfortable. I was told everything that was going to happen before it happened. I have even received complements about how well I look so soon after having my work done. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hammen to anyone that needed to have work done.
