John H. Ko, DDS, is a skilled and compassionate dentist who brightens smiles at John H. Ko, DDS in Pleasanton, California. Hes been certified by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and the California State Dental Board for more than two decades, and he is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Southern Alameda County Dental Society. Dr. Ko was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and went to the University of Toronto for both his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology/biochemistry and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. After graduating in 1991, he and his wife moved to British Columbia and started a dental practice in North Vancouver. In 1997, they relocated to the Bay Area to be closer to family and have called Pleasanton home ever since.
Hes also committed to continuing education to ensure that he stays up to date on all the latest advances in dental technologies and practices, ensuring that his patients receive the most progressive care available. Dr. Ko and his wife have two sons. When hes not improving smiles, he enjoys golf, hockey, skiing, and playing the piano.
Maria was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and moved to California when she was 14. She went to high school in Livermore, California, and attended college in Hayward, California. In 1991, she earned her certification from Chabot Colleges dental hygiene program in Hayward, graduating with honors at the top of her class.
Maria makes sure to stay up to date on the latest developments in dental technology and treatments. She is current on all of her licensing requirements and regularly attends continuing education courses to learn new skills.
Passion for her profession and a deep interest in helping others drives Marias practice at John H Ko DDS. In addition to providing high-quality services, shes a firm believer in keeping her patients educated about proper dental care so they can continue to maintain optimum oral hygiene when they leave the office.
Kimmi was born and raised in San Leandro. After graduating from high school, she started her journey in dentistry and worked for some offices in the Bay area before coming to Dr.Kos office. She worked in Alameda with a general dentist for 18 years, where she gained most of her experience in oral surgery, implants, root canals, tissue grafting, bone grafting, Invisalign, crown and bridges, dentures.
When she is not at the office, she likes to spend time with her family, and at their second home in South Lake Tahoe. Her favorite things to do are shopping, traveling, outdoor activities, boating, and much more.
Hello, my name is Esther. I am Dr. Ko's Office Administrator. As your insurance and billing specialist, I am here to assist you through explaining and discussing your insurance benefits and processing dental claims. i enjoy working with you on the financial aspects of your dental needs. I am privileged to be part of his wonderful team. We all work extremely well together to provide the best service for you. Our staff is very warm and caring. I love the positive energy felt by everyone and I appreciate the attentive care Dr. Ko and the team strive to provide, as individuals and collectively, to each patient.

I've been going to this dentist office since 2009. Retired from work in 2017 and moved 3 hours from Pleasanton. I still make the trek twice a year because they are the best!

Very nice meeting new receptionist, Shirley! And as always, will never find a better hygienist than Marie who I truly call a dear friend at this point. Her care as a service provider and just a loving/caring ear are unmatched. Happy for this office and safe travels Dr. Ko; see you on my next visit

Maria is the best for my bi-annual cleanings. Vaneers are tough to work with, and she has been doing an excellent job with mine for 15 years. Can't recommend her and Dr Ko highly enough!!!

The staff was great and the whole experience went smoothly from beginning to finish. Upon arrival I was greeted by friendly staff and taken in for my appointment right away. They made me comfortable the entire time and checked on me throughout the dental cleaning to make sure I was okay....which was SO MUCH appreciated! I was very impressed with everyone's knowledge, thoroughness, and comforting bedside manner and I'm excited now to start bringing my teenagers to see Dr. Ko as well.

Maria, is the kindest, most thorough and gentle, understanding hygienist I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She is not only great at her job but she is an exceptional human being that not only cares about her job but about me and my family personally; I consider her a dear friend since meeting her through Dr. Ko's office when we relocated to the Bay area from Portland, OR going on 12 years ago.

I had a slight dental emergency. Dr.Ko saw me immediately which I greatly appreciated. My first contact with them was on the phone and everyone I spoke to was very polite and highly efficient. I was also very impressed with his receptionist and dental assistant. Sorry I've forgotten their names . The office is very clean I highly recommend them.

My wife attended this dentistry and overall happy with the quality of service of the dentist and this review is more related with office practices and policies that you should aware when make an appointment to this place. Some context of the situation that is common everywhere: 1. Cleaning appointments happens regularly each 6 months and it is common to schedule in advance. 2. Given the big amount of time normally you get a reminder, typically a call before you appointment to remind you the appointment. 3. There is a no show up policy will charge you $75 dollars which has totally sense due you commit to assist to the appointment and it incur in a loss if you no show up. Here is the problem: it is expected you get a reminder, in our case nothing and appointment was schedule just after the end of the end of the year holidays. However it was completely forgotten and a text message two hours earlier on the same day day of the appointment. So we called to inform we were not able to make the appointment and need to reschedule. But the office assistant claimed because the policy it need to be informed 48h before which happened exactly during holidays. Generally any dentist office I have been they called and inform in advance of the appointment (mail message and phone call) but we never got a reminder and on most cases they tend to waive at first occurrence to keep the costumer relationship. I tried to politely to waive the fee given the conditions (holidays and never got a reminder) but office assistant keep relying on the policy and when tried to speak just got mad claiming I was interrupting her and hang up the phone so it was not possible to speak with her. I don't recommend this place, I have had better costumer experience other places. I completely understand the no show fee but given 6 months periods I was expecting communication comes in both ways and given how rude was the assistant I recommend check somewhere else or if you like the dentist never make appointments 6 months in advance. Edit: Response say "However, we did send an email one month prior to her appointment as well as multiple texts 5 days prior, 2 days prior, and also same day reminders of her appointment". However we never got any as you claim. I suggest to call your costumer specially for appointments made 6 months in advance as a standard practice.

We arrived here because the previous dentists we had delivered poor quality of work. So far, after one visit I can tell you that they are all VERY nice people; they were attentive and very thorough-- looking at all previous work done and noting any problem areas, while being thoughtful in their delivery. The cleaning was very thorough and done by Maria who is extremely gentle and kind. My 85 year old mother gave me the recommendation for him so I knew Dr Ko was a nice man with a nice manner, haha... and he is! I was a nervous wreck going in and everyone went out of their way to support me. Thank you so much!

The entire practice is amazing! From the 1st contact with Esther, such amazing person to work with. The staff including Kimmie are very professional, thorough and just a pleasure and enjoyable dental experience! Right?!? Amazing dental experience is what you will get here. Dr Ko will show you all the places on your teeth that need action. He actually has a video wand that takes still pictures! He's awesome! You will never regret seeing Dr. Ko for your dental needs. I had a wonderful experience considering the circumstances. I came to bring my daughter for graduate school. I had an unbearable toothache I could barely talk or bite down. I googled dentist in the area since I had never been to California and didn't know anyone to get a referral. I found Dr. Ko. He took X-rays, diagnosed me and attempted to send me to an oral surgeon for an emergency extraction. No one was available for weeks. Being sensitive to my pain and what I was going through he made a decision to do the extraction himself even though he stated he no longer does extractions. I was elated and so grateful. A few hours later the tooth was removed, the pain relieved and I was able to eat and be productive for the rest of my trip. The customer service was excellent from the receptionist helping to take my mind off the pain by telling places to go and things to do to Dr. Ko! I definitely recommend this place not just a dentist office but people who care!!

I am 100% satisfied with the care I had at Dr John Ko's office. Dr. Ko and his staff are extremely attentive, professional and COVID sanitary/safe. The entire facility is clean with updated equipment. His hygienist, Maria is super gentle and careful while cleaning your teeth. She makes my teeth cleaning visits very smooth and easy. I totally recommend this dental office.
