After dental school, Dr. Cottone worked for his father and brother in their dental laboratory before joining a large cosmetic practice in Manhattan. Later, Dr. Cottone purchased his current dental practice in Syosset and was eventually joined by Dr. Carol Anne Schmitz. Ultimately, they would combine practices with Dr. Robert F. Gudwin to create Berry Hill Dentistry, PC. Dr. Cottone is a Northeast Regional Board Certified dentist licensed by the New York State Department of Education, and has received an award for Americas Top Dentist from the Consumers Research Counsel of America. Dr. Cottone stays current with the latest in dental technology and techniques by completing numerous continuing education courses on implant prosthodontics and restoration, endodontics, advanced esthetic Cerec training, and other specialized training.
Dr. Schmitz began her career in her fathers practice in Rego Park, Queens, eventually becoming a full partner. Later, she joined Dr. Cottones practice in Syosset, while maintaining her Rego Park practice. Dr. Schmitz is a Northeast Regional Board Certified dentist licensed by the New York State Department of Education. She stays current with the latest in dental technology and techniques, including extensive training in dental implants. Dr. Schmitz also regularly completes continuing education courses in subjects like endodontics, emergency training, advanced esthetic Cerec training, and bisphosphonate procedure protocols.
Arlene is a dental hygienist who has been a part of Berry Hill Dentistry and Dr. John Cottones team for many years. She performs multiple procedures, including prophylaxes, dental radiographs, periodontal screenings, and charting. Arlene also conducts examinations to detect oral cancer and reviews patients general health. Arlene is a graduate of the State University of New York, Farmingdale and holds a license to practice dental hygiene in New York and Florida. She is married and loves spending time with her family of six. A fitness enthusiast, she enjoys a busy, active lifestyle, including participating in outdoor sportsand, rooting for the Jets!
Susan has significant experience as a dental hygienist, originally with Dr. Robert Gudwin, and then with the team at Berry Hill Dentistry. She received her education in Syracuse, New York. Susan performs multiple procedures, including prophylaxes, dental radiographs, periodontal screenings, and charting. She also conducts examinations to detect oral cancer and reviews patients general health. Married and the proud mother of one, Susan enjoys hiking, kayaking and spending time at her country home in upstate New York.
Jennifer is a vital part of Berry Hill Dentistry. Her knowledge and calm demeanor are quite comforting to patients. Jennifer assists the doctors during all dental procedures. She also helps educate our patients during treatment and reviews all post-operative care with them. Jennifer is married and has an eight-year-old daughter. She enjoys playing softball and volunteering at her daughters school whenever possible.
Ruth is an experienced, important part of the team, and her enthusiastic attitude and warm, friendly smile make patients feel welcome. Ruth assists the doctors during all dental procedures. She also helps educate our patients during treatment and reviews all post-operative care. Ruth is married and the mother of two adult children. Her interests include the opera, ballet, reading, and an occasional round of golf.

The BEST dentistry. I have been a patient for over 10 years and feel that every professional in the office is a partner in my health. My dental hygenist, Arlene is the only personal I trust to clean my teeth...I drive 250 miles to see her because I have since moved away.

It's always a good visit at Berry Hill. I've been there 4 times and have already had a cleaning, 2 gum cleansings, 2 extractions and a root canal and I've never had a bit of pain or discomfort. The staff is awesome from the receptionist to the hygienist and of course, my favorite dentist, Carole Anne. They are always very concerned with following safety protocols in this pandemic and I always feel safe while I'm there and when I leave. I highly recommend this practice. If they can make my teeth look great, they can make anyone's!

I am seeing Dr Schmitt, John Cottons wife, she is a caring and skilled dentist. I always feel at ease when I am there, the office staff and chair side assistants are well prepared, calm and competent. I have been a client at Berry Hill for almost 20 years. I plan to stay with them for the foreseeable future
