We truly believe in furthering our education so that we can learn all we can. This not only benefits us but also helps our patients. We use this knowledge to give you the most up-to-date treatments so that you can have a smile that you are proud to show off.

We are proud to offer many different technologies so that you can get straight teeth in a way that works for you. We would be glad to go over all of your options so that together we can make the right decision for you and your mouth.

We also know how scary it can be to go to the dentist and orthodontist. Many people fear coming in, so we do everything that we can to provide a calm and comfortable environment. Our staff is great at what they do. They are here to discuss any of your concerns and put you at ease.

There is also nothing worse than feeling like you are not able to discuss your teeth with your orthodontist. We dont want you to feel that way, so we are all here to help answer any questions you may have, no matter how silly you think they are. We can assure you that we have heard most of them already!

If you have any questions about how we can straighten your teeth and give you a better looking smile, please dont hesitate to call us at (805) 547-7080 (San Luis Obispo) or (805) 462-5995 (Atascadero). Thank you!

The goal of the ABO is to promote the highest level of orthodontics. They want all orthodontists to be held to a high standard so that their patients get the care they deserve. They also want to protect the general public against orthodontists who are unqualified to practice.

The ABO has several main objectives. The first is to provide examinations and certificates to graduates who are able to practice orthodontics at a high level. They also offer a diplomates career, which means that orthodontists are re-evaluated through their career and with examinations to ensure that they are practicing the way that they should be.

After an orthodontist becomes certified, the ABO helps to continue the orthodontists education with continuing education programs. They want to promote the latest technologies so certified orthodontists can continue to give patients the care they deserve.

Though it is worth it, it is not easy to become board certified. Orthodontists must pass both written and clinical examinations. The board will also go over their credentials to make sure that they are qualified to receive the honor. This process can take quite a few years, usually between five and ten years. Once an orthodontist becomes certified, he or she will have to become re-certified every ten years to maintain the board-certified status.

Whether you can fix the problem or not, it is very important to let us know what is happening. We may need to take a look at your braces to see if we need to do any repair work on them so that they will continue to work as it should.

  • You may also want to rinse your mouth with a warm, saltwater mouthwash. You can dissolve one teaspoonful of salt in eight ounces of warm water and use the mixture to rinse your mouth out. You can also use the Healthy Gums Rinse by The Natural Dentist.
  • Many people like to use Orabase on their sore gums to help with the discomfort. This product is available at the pharmacy. You may also use over-the-counter medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol). It is not helpful to take aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin and Advil), or naproxen sodium (Aleve, Naprosyn, Anaprox) because they slow the movement of the teeth.
  • If you are not wearing your headgear the way you should be, you may have some discomfort. It is important to wear your headgear as often as requested so that you will get the results you deserve. You will get used to wearing it, and it will stop causing you discomfort the more you wear it.
  • If you have a loose bracket, it is important that you leave it in place the best that you can. You can put wax on it so that it doesnt irritate your gums until you are able to be seen. If it comes off, put it in a bag or envelope so that you can bring it with you to your next visit.
  • If you have a loose wire, you might be able to use tweezers or needle-nosed pliers to try to put the wire back into place. If needed, you can use floss to tie the wire into place until you are able to come into our office.
  • If you cant get it to stay and it is really causing you problems, you can clip it off with a fingernail clipper. Place wax over the end to protect your mouth. This should be used only as a last resort since it will require us to make significant repairs to your braces when you come into our office.

The experience for our two children with Dr Freeman was fantastic. Their perfect smiles say it all. My son is autistic, and we were worried about how this was going to work out. It was a complete success thanks to Dr Freeman and his staff. All of our concerns were met with knowledgeable, and compassionate solutions. Dr Freeman's positivity is contagious, his entire staff is ever so patient and kind. They explained things to him so well, and were just amazing all around. We are so happy with the level of success we had. We always left each visit with a smile on our face. I very highly recommend them!!!

Everything about our experience was great! Comfortable atmosphere, friendly service and most importantly Dr. Freeman and his staff are skilled professionals that pay attention to every last detail. My daughter and I had alot of anxiety about her getting braces but that all went away after the consultation. They were so thorough and answered every question with detail. I am so glad her smile is in such good hands I only wish Dr. Freeman was around when I had braces!
