Dr. Heller has been providing his patients with the highest quality of dental care utilizing state-of-the-art dental technology for over 35 years. Dr. Joel Heller is a dentist who has been serving the Long Island community at his own practice for over 35 years. He provides key services to the community, including preventive dentistry, dental surgery, cosmetic dentistry, and more for the whole family.
After earning his degree as a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Tufts University Dental School, Dr. Heller worked as an attending dentist at the United Cerebral Palsy Center in Roosevelt for five years. Dr. Heller opened his Family and Cosmetic dental office in Rockville Centre in 1980. He continues to provide complete dental care to his patients at his new dental office at 66 Lincoln Court, Rockville Centre.
Dr. Heller attends dental seminars throughout the year to bring the latest dental technology and procedures to his patients. Dr. Heller continues to offer his dental services to children and adults with special needs. Dr. Heller is a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association and the Nassau County Dental Society.
The team at Joel Heller DMD believe in the importance of preventative care. We focus on keeping patients in good oral health so that they can live a full, healthy, and enjoyable life that is free from oral pain. This starts by educating our patients on what they can do to stay healthy at home. In our family dentist office we recommend that patients eat a healthy diet that consists of green leafy vegetables, lean protein, nuts, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and veggies. Eating these foods along with drinking water can help to keep teeth healthy and make them stronger. By simultaneously reducing sugar intake, patients can also reduce their risk of cavities.
It is also important to brush and floss throughout the day. Instead of waiting for bedtime to brush teeth, carry a small toothbrush and use it after meals and snacks. This makes it possible to remove sugar and bacteria from the teeth and gums before it has the opportunity to turn into acid that can attack the teeth. This preventative step can greatly reduce a persons' risk of getting a cavity or gum disease. We understand the importance of taking these steps at home and will spend the time necessary to educate and inform patients so that they can stay healthy overall. Education, after all, is essential for living a long and healthy life.

A. Primary, or 'baby,' teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to come in.
A. First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.
A. Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.
A. Have your family dentist evaluate the fluoride level of your child's primary source of drinking water. If your child is not getting enough fluoride internally through water (especially if the fluoride level is deficient or if your child drinks bottled water without fluoride), then we may prescribe fluoride supplements.
A. Soft plastic mouthguards can be used to protect teeth, lips, cheeks and gums from sport related injuries. A custom-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injuries and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.
A. There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Family dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which you and your family are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation. Digital x-rays provide an even greater level of protection by using up to 90 percent less radiation.

My dentist of 20+ years retired just before the pandemic and I went to Dr. Heller as he came highly recommended. His office is warm and friendly and my appointments were prompt. Dr. Heller himself is really wonderful! I had front caps that needed to be replaced after 30 years. The prospect was a little daunting for as I had become self conscious about them, but also afraid what new teeth would look like. But Dr. Heller was terrific. He took his time explaining the process to me, answered all my questions and set my mind at ease. My teeth were replaced and now my smile is like new! Thank you Dr. Heller!

Convinced me I had 4 cavities. It was years ago. Told me to come back and he would drill out the other side and do the other cavities. My right side has never been the same and I can hardly eat certain food. It's been a horrible few years. Immediately after he butchered my teeth I went to my friends father who is an awesome dentist and was told the other side is perfect. He literally destroyed my teeth for no reason. I had perfect teeth before this guy ruined them. I wish I could sue him for everything he has. If anyone goes to this guy you are risking Permanent damage that can never be fixed. He ruined my teeth and i hope his business falls apart.

I have been going to Dr.Heller 15+ years and I would highly recommend him to people of all ages. Dr.Heller and his staff are extremely professional and always know how to make me at ease when getting my dental treatments. I went for a cleaning a few days ago and my teeth have never looked better! & my smile proves that! When needing cavities filled, he explains everything to me. Dr.Heller made the process painless . Dr.Heller takes the initiative to keep his office very clean and hygienic especially with his use of state of the art technology and equipment. I feel especially at ease with all the extra special precautions in place since the onset of the pandemic. Dr. Heller is extremely professional & I have referred friends & coworkers to him for all their dental needs!

My first time using Doctor Heller was when I needed a Root canal! AH! I was never a fan of going to the dentist and I was certainly nervous about getting a root canal. Dr. Heller was so kind and patient... he went through everything before with me... showed me diagrams to calm me down... was constantly checking in with me during to see if I was ok or needed a break. I would highly recommend him to all!

I'm an adult now but when I was a 16 year old girl, dr. Heller told me I had 4 cavities and he wanted to fill them. I went for a second opinion and it turns out I had no cavities. My dad asked for my x-rays at that time, and he could not reproduce them. I'm now 30 and in the medical field- x-rays and notes must be kept on file for 7 years (or for pediatrics 21 years old), which was not the case here. He could have been sued for this.

My dad asked for my x-rays at that time, and he could not reproduce them. I'm now 30 and in the medical field- x-rays and notes must be kept on file for 7 years (or for pediatrics 21 years old), which was not the case here. He could have been sued for this.
