Dr. Joel Shields has been setting the standards for delivering high-quality pediatric dental care since 1983. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University before receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry. He went on to complete his pediatric dentistry specialty training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Board Certified in Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Shields maintains memberships with such organizations as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Southwest Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association and the International College of Dentists, just to name a few. Dr. Shields is dedicated to helping his young patients achieve and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile that will last a lifetime.

Thank you all!! Everyone was informative from start to finish! Dr. Shields was very kind. And my Julius was okay with him. There is a sense of calmness and peace at this office. The overall aesthetics of the office is welcoming and kid friendly. I definitely liked the "open door" ability for parents to peek in on their kiddos without disturbing the procedure or distracting the child. Julius is feeling just fine and back to being Julius. Thank you all.

My daughter loves to go see Dr. Shields! Such a fabulous experience from appointment scheduling all the way through the appointment. They are truly focused on the child (patient) and my kiddo always leaves with a beautiful smile!

There are not enough words of praise for Dr. Shields and his phenomenal staff! We've been going to Dr. Shields for 14 years now. I have to say one of the things that I have absolutely loved most about doing business with him is the braces process. So many of my daughter's friends were getting braces before they were 10years old and I always thought that seemed odd. Dr. Shields observed Brady and gave her teeth time to make some moves, pulled some teeth to allow for some things to shift/drop down then once he saw it was absolutely necessary, recommended we do braces. He wasn't in a hurry to slap them on there and take our money and I deeply appreciate that! We really liked how he spaced out getting the top and bottom done rather than doing it all at one time where she couldn't eat for a week like majority of her friends. As I mentioned, his staff is phenomenal! They are literally THE most kind and friendly staff of ANY business we go to.

They are very kind and take extra care with the kids. They make it as easy and enjoyable as they can before and during the visit. Very professional. We have been using them for over 8 years and so grateful that we found Dr Shields and his staff. They are easy to get to off of Highway 80 and Collins. Highly recommend him and his staff to anyone.

Dr. Shields is great. My son woke up this morning shaking me and saying, "Mommy wake up, today is the day to go to the dentist!" The ladies in the office are awesome as well.

Always a great experience here at JBS pediatric dentistry. A few months ago, my son ended up really sick and we couldn't tell if it was viral or an abscesses tooth. Dr Shields went above and beyond in a holiday weekend to help me figure what my next steps were (we'd been to a local urgent care facility earlier that day and received terrible care). He helped me remain calm, and it allowed us to sleep that night. Moms know that's a tremendous factor in hiring a provider to care for a child. My son has seen him since age 3. He's always content and happy to go for his checkups and visits. We are forever grateful we were referred here when he was a toddler. Friendly staff and always "old school" professional customer service. This 50+ Mom really appreciates that kind of customer care! Update: Here we are, age 12 and the service, the consultation, the experience, the staff and Dr Shield's expertise, is still unparalleled. We feel so blessed and lucky to have him provide dental care for our son.

My youngest was always scared to go to the dentist. Since we've switched to Dr. Shields she absolutely loves it! Everyone in the office is so helpful and makes you feel welcomed. It's like a family. My daughter no longer has anxiety to see the dentist. She looks forward to her visits.

Our daughter has been going to Dr.Shields since she was a toddler, and now as a teen she still loves the experience of seeing them. The front office are the most caring and make you feel like family every time. The assistants in the back have made every experience awesome also and my daughter loves they get to know you by name and as a person. I will always refer Dr.Shields office to everyone and anyone looking for a pediatric dentist.

Dr Shields is a wonderful and great dentist. My son is 45 years old and mentally challenged and Dr Shields how won all my son's confidence in his work. My son has been seeing Dr Shields for about 4 or 5 years now and does not have to be sedated in anyway for the work. Before Dr Shields he had to be half way sedated or totally sedated to have any dental work done. I see a lot of children there and they all look very comfortable there during their work. The whole staff is extremely exceptional from the front office to all the dental staff. I thank the good Lord for Dr Shields office.

Dr. Shields and the entire staff are so caring and professional. He eased my mind about my daughter's lip tie and they do fantastic with my older daughter. I cannot say enough great things about them!! Edited to add** I am still amazed at how great they are with parents and kids alike! They are the most caring staff I have dealt with at a medical office. Great recommendations on achieving and keeping healthy teeth.

I've never seen a Dentist office that had so many Kind,Helpful& Amazing employee's the all had a wonderful attitude.Dr.Joel was awesome as well he went over and Beyond his expectations.I was referred to him from Mint Dentistry.They informed me that my son needed 4 Feelings & Dr.Joel did X-rays & said that he only recommended 1 feeling.That alone let me know that he was not all about the money. I would definitely recommend this Dentist, to anyone that is looking for a great dentist!
