Dr. Jignya Dharia graduated from NYU College of Dentistry in 1992, and has been attending many continuing education courses to stay up to date on the latest dental trends. She has been practicing dentistry in the state of New York for over 25 years, and is also licensed in the state of Massachusetts.

The team at Jignya Dharia DDS LLC believe in the importance of preventative care. We focus on keeping patients in good oral health so that they can live a full, healthy, and enjoyable life that is free from oral pain. This starts by educating our patients on what they can do to stay healthy at home. In our family dentist office we recommend that patients eat a healthy diet that consists of green leafy vegetables, lean protein, nuts, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and veggies. Eating these foods along with drinking water can help to keep teeth healthy and make them stronger. By simultaneously reducing sugar intake, patients can also reduce their risk of cavities.

It is also important to brush and floss throughout the day. Instead of waiting for bedtime to brush teeth, carry a small toothbrush and use it after meals and snacks. This makes it possible to remove sugar and bacteria from the teeth and gums before it has the opportunity to turn into acid that can attack the teeth. This preventative step can greatly reduce a persons' risk of getting a cavity or gum disease. We understand the importance of taking these steps at home and will spend the time necessary to educate and inform patients so that they can stay healthy overall. Education, after all, is essential for living a long and healthy life.

Understanding the importance of these regular dental exams, the staff at Jignya Dharia DDS LLC work to make each patient extremely comfortable. This includes being welcoming and kind while performing dental treatments in a way that is painless and relaxing. Patients visit our dentist office because they trust us to do just that take care of their teeth and gums, gently. The majority of our patients are local and come from the greater Albany area, we also see patients that are looking for gentle dental care.

Seniors, on the other hand, often struggle with gum disease and oral infections. As people age, their teeth can become weaker and infected more easily. Bone loss is incredibly common with seniors and by conducting regular dental exams, the team at Jignya Dharia DDS LLC can help seniors to have strong teeth and reduce the risk of them falling out. Since over seventy percent of U.S. adults suffer from tooth loss, preventative care is important.

A. Primary, or 'baby,' teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to come in.

A. First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.

A. Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

A. Have your family dentist evaluate the fluoride level of your child's primary source of drinking water. If your child is not getting enough fluoride internally through water (especially if the fluoride level is deficient or if your child drinks bottled water without fluoride), then we may prescribe fluoride supplements.

A. Soft plastic mouthguards can be used to protect teeth, lips, cheeks and gums from sport related injuries. A custom-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injuries and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.

A. There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Family dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which you and your family are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation. Digital x-rays provide an even greater level of protection by using up to 90 percent less radiation.

If you live in Albany or the local area, you can benefit from a teeth whitening procedure at our local dental office. At Jignya Dharia DDS LLC, we are known for improving the appearance of our patients' smiles. We are a cosmetic dentist and has multiple ways for doing so. We often recommend a teeth bleaching procedure because it is by far the easiest way to transform your smile. After cleaning your teeth, we can complete this procedure in time for a special event or as part of your regular oral health routine.

People have their teeth whitened on a regular basis so that they can look and feel great. As people age, it is common for teeth to become dull and yellow. This is in part due to age itself and also due to what a person eats and drinks. Drinking coffee, tea and wine, for example, can stain your teeth. Smoking and eating foods that contain food coloring can also stain your teeth. Brushing immediately after eating and drinking can help to prevent stains but is typically not enough to remove the risk entirely. Fortunately, stained and yellow teeth don't have to stay that way.

There are several types of teeth bleaching that you can try. People typically start by using whitening toothpaste at home. This can help to brighten your teeth but is typically not enough to actually whiten them. We recommend toothpaste as part of an overall teeth whitening treatment but not by itself. After professional whitening, the toothpaste can help your teeth stay bright.

Many people may try over the counter solutions like whitening trays or strips. These treatments work but not as well as professional solutions. As with most things, what you buy in the store is simply not as strong as what you can get from a medical professional. Additionally, store bought whitening trays are designed to fit everyone's teeth, not your teeth specifically. This means that they can become loose, and the solution can leak, leading to gum irritation.

In our dental office, we also recommend whitening trays. This type of procedure is effective and puts patients in control over how white their teeth become and how often they are whitened. We start by taking an impression of a patient's teeth. We then use this impression to create customized whitening trays in a dental lab. They fit securely around teeth and will not leak solution into the mouth. This is an ideal way for patients to whiten teeth because once they are created, they can be used at any time. Patients are provided with a whitening solution to use at home, and the trays need to be worn for a couple of hours every night for a week or more. Once teeth have reached the perfect shade of white, a patient can stop wearing the trays. This portable solution can be taken anywhere, making it possible for people to whiten teeth while on vacation, business trips or after moving to a new city.

When a whitening solution is applied to the teeth, the hydrogen peroxide inside of the solution penetrates through the enamel. It then starts the oxidation process where molecules are transformed to reflect less or no light. This makes them appear colorless, and teeth appear white. This process is typically extremely effective for eliminating stains and can be repeated frequently.

On occasion, the stains are too strong for a teeth bleaching procedure to work. When this happens, we can provide an alternative treatment. For example, patients in Albany can have dental veneers placed on the surface of teeth in order to cover dark stains. This is often preferable for patients that smoke since veneers are stain resistant and won't yellow quickly like natural teeth. Still, it is wise to try a teeth whitening procedure first, before starting a cosmetic one.

At Jignya Dharia DDS LLC, we also recommend that patients have their teeth whitened before having other dental procedures completed. Most of the materials that are used in dental restorations or for cosmetic purposes are stain resistant and bleach resistant. For example, a dental crown won't stain or bleach but should maintain its initial coloring with time. When a crown, veneer, bridge, or implant is created in a dental lab, they are created to match the shade of the surrounding teeth. If the surrounding teeth are yellow, these restorations will be created in a yellow shade. If the surrounding teeth are a brilliant white, the restoration will be as well. This makes the timing of teeth whitening procedures important. If you live in the Albany area and are interested in a dental restoration, schedule your teeth whitening procedure first.

A. Sensitivity from tooth whitening is always transient. If there is any sensitivity caused by the whitening, it goes away within one to two days after the treatment, and the patient returns to the state of sensitivity he or she had prior to starting the whitening process.

A. Typically you can expect whitening to last from six months to two years, although some studies report results lasting up to 10 years. Avoiding red wine, coffee, and smokingall of which can cause staininghelps preserve the results.

A. Tooth whitening has little or no effect on restorative materials such as porcelain or crowns, but it may temporarily reduce the bond strength between enamel and composite restorations. This is why it is a good idea to check with your dental professional before beginning any course of tooth whitening.

A. Products developed from carbamide peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, and urea (substances found in every human cell), should be used cautiously to alleviate concern. Those who have issues are the ones who don't follow instructions and overuse the products for months or years.

The worse dentist you would ever experience, every time you go to her she would take x-rays because they get her more money from your insurance provider but never treats you for the problem you take to her. Her tools and the Equipment are so unhygienic, that they literally smells bad.

Do not go here. Spent more time violating hipaa than looking in my mouth. Very rude doctor with poor communication skulls. I received a nonsense referral that no one will take. Took the money from doing my xray in a side closet with no door and literally told me in the reception that my teeth were fine. The gaping holes in several of them beg to differ. The exam room that I was briefly in was littered with wrappers and used mugs and many tools were unwrapped and out on surfaces. The same pair of gloves was used to touch a lot of things, including things not in the exam room. 'Dentist' claims she can only do cleanings. I paid far too much to see what seemed like a dental hygienist running a scam. I also waited an hour past my appointment in the waiting room. The decorations in the waiting room are nice, and the receptionist is very kind. The receptionist did do my xray though, which I'm not sure she was qualified for since she was asking for guidance a lot... and stood on the other side of a plaster wall for protection. Attached I'm showing the paperwork I was given as referral. One of many typos, and not enough for an oral sergion to help my many painful teeth. Back to eating soft foods until I can see a competent dentist. The neglect medicaid patients receive is incredibly cruel. I've been trying to find any dentist for about a year.

Had a very bizarre experience here. Bear with me as this is a wild ride. Came here for a very bad tooth ache that I suspected needed a root canal. First of all, her website makes it seem like it's an actual dental office with staff. It's not. It's an old run down house in a not great area that's been semi-converted into an office. Everything is extremely outdated. There's no other dentists or assistants. Just her. I get there and fill out the medical history and insurance paperwork with the receptionist who seems like a young college girl. I go sit down. 5 minutes later there are extremely loud retching vomiting noises coming from behind the door. Me and the other guy in the waiting room just stare at each other mortified. This goes on for several minutes. The receptionist girl then comes back and is apologizing profusely to the dentist saying "I'm sorry I'm trying, I really am trying my best." Several minutes later and she walks out of the office and doesn't come back.... Now it's just the dentist. Answering the phones, processing paperwork, setting up the X-rays, collecting the other patients insurance. She's interrupted every 30 seconds by the phone ringing. Then she calls me up to the front, and starts DISCUSSING MY MEDICAL HISTORY OUT LOUD IN FRONT OF THE OTHER PATIENTS. Right in the waiting room! She starts reading down the list on my paperwork asking me personal questions about my medications and diagnoses. I very awkwardly and quietly answer her questions. Then she calls me to the back (after answering 3 or 4 phone calls) and asks me what I'm here for. I tell her and she looks in my mouth for legitimately 3 seconds and then literally says "so what do you want me to do about it." I say ".....don't you do root canals?" She says yes but asks me why I haven't gone to an endodontist and I explain to her that there are no endodontists that accept my insurance within an hours radius. She then I guess takes that to mean that my insurance doesn't cover endodontists? Therefore I'm not covered for root canals? She starts saying she can't give me a root canal because my insurance doesn't cover it, which is not true. I try to explain to her but she is persistent that she cannot give me a root canal. I basically give up at this point and so "ok great bye!" And walk out. Long story short major waste of my time. Beyond unprofessional practice if you can even call it that. Only go here if you have some time to kill and want a good laugh.

I was very dissatisfied with the service I received and the state of the office. For starters, they charged me an exhorbant covid fee and could not take my card. The appointment was also 60$ additional from what I was told on the phone. She hurried with my teeth, sprayed tooth polish on my face when the polisher wasn't working, and I noticed some of the tools that she (thankfully) didn't use on me were internally coated with grime. The x-ray room did not have any xray barriers to protect other people, and doorways only had plastic shower curtains for privacy. Not going here again. The reviews got my hopes up.

Dentist is very nice but there is no patient confidentiality, dentist address patient anywhere in the office and ask question..(eg, not because a patient is in a dental office mean that he/she want everyone to know he/she is wearing a denture). She also need to focus and one task instead of three man job. Be the dentist not the dental assistant and the secretary.
