DTX Implant Studio is considered the premiere implant planning software, analogous to Adobe 's Creative Suite. This software merges the 3D Xray CT scan (.DICOM) with the surface scan of the teeth (.STL file) to plan out the implant surgery. Every implant in our office is planned using this software, a surgical guide is designed and fabricated,then utilized during the procedure to enable optimal implant placement. Aesthetically-Driven Implant Planning means designing your smile first, digitally placing the crowns in the most esthetic positions, then planning where the implants should go in order to achieve these results. Planning 'with the end mind' helps to avoid the implant crowns from looking ugly and feeling unnatural or bulky. Ultimately this process helps to get your tooth replacement to look beautiful, feel natural, and blend in with your other teeth.
After the DTX Studio Implant software has designed the Surgical Guide file, this machine prints out the surgical stent to be used during the surgery. Fully-Guided metal sleeves are inserted to help implants to be placed in the exact same positions as on the Implant Planning Software. This latest generation 3D Printer also can make dental models, splints, and mouthguards.
A surgical drill guide made from the 3D-Printer is used during implant procedures to place implants in the precise positions as planned on the computer. The clear drill guide fixates onto existing teeth and will only allow drilling to be made in the computer-planned locations. Most implant surgeons do not use a surgical guide because of the extra time and costs involved. After explaining all the benefits of using a surgical guide, most patients don't have a problem with the additional cost.

So it's been about 9 months since I first visited Dr. Jeremy Heldt. For any dentist, my mouth offers a number of interesting challenges: broken, fractured, and/or ground down teeth, very small & crooked, crowded teeth, and severe tori that make some procedures very difficult and painful. Those challenges, plus the age factor, finances, & other physical issues, have made getting my teeth back to a healthy state (both physically and aesthetically) very difficult. Over the course of many years, I have logged at least a thousand hours in dentist chairs (I'm still waiting for the awards system to get caught up).
