Dr. Calhoun received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 1975. Following dental school, he specialized in Oral Pathology at the Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center (Oral Pathology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, including cancer, that occur in and around the oral cavity). After his specialty training, Dr. Calhoun spent three years as an Assistant Professor at the USC School of Dentistry.
In 1981, he and his wife Gloria moved to Lompoc to begin their general dental practice. The first office was small, and it soon became apparent that it would be necessary to move into a larger space. That opportunity came in late 1983 when the Mission Professional Building was constructed, conveniently located one block from the Lompoc District Hospital.
Dr. Calhoun and his staff are proud to offer a relaxed, casual environment where you can feel comfortable, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Our current patients have become like family to all of us. Carrie, our office manager, has been an integral part of our team for the past 20+ years. She is an expert on all dental insurance plans and works very hard to make sure our patients receive the dental insurance benefits they pay for. Dr. Calhoun is fortunate to have Lori and Kara as his right arm Registered Dental Assistants. Lori has been with our office for over 15 years and Kara was our intern last year and we couldnt let her go. She was offered a permanent position before her internship had ended. She is also our IT girl.
Our hygiene department is loaded with experience. Alicia has been with Dr. Calhoun for over 20 years. Karen came to us when Dr. Thiel retired and has over 20 years in clinical hygiene. Kayla, our newest hygienist has many years of dental office experience. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge. Gloria has been with Dr. Calhoun since the beginning. Besides working as a hygienist, she has been tasked to make sure the office and the hygiene department run smoothly. Tami is our part-time patient coordinator. Tami retired from another office and comes in weekly to help us with patient care.

The office staff are always welcoming and sweet. The hygienists are amazing! And lastly, Dr. Calhoun is just the best. You get the best care here. Update Oct 2022: Loved the new staff there, from the front office to the back. The hygienist was great; it was the first time I experienced not having a hand rest on my mouth. I noticed too that the hygienist was very attentive to the x-rays, which I don't recall the previous hygienists doing it that much. I went back a week later for some fillings done by Dr. Nagle and she was great as well. She also didn't rest her hand on my mouth while performing the procedures. And she kept me informed through the whole process and checking to see if I was okay. It's also always reassuring when both the dentist and the assistant have mutual respect for each other. I've been to some dental offices where the dentist is criticizing the assistant while working on my teeth. It's so awkward and I feel bad for the assistant, especially when they did not deserve that kind of disrespect. I was nervous that Dr. Calhoun was leaving, but let me reassure you, you'll be in great hands.

Dr. Calhoun was my favorite dentist for years! I recently had my first visit with Lompoc Dental and his office is not the same. I felt they were constantly trying to upsell me on everything. You now walk in to displays of toothbrushes for sale, I was reminded of the whitening special, and talked into a fluoride treatment that Calhoun never felt I needed. Also, myself (and my in laws) all had appointments (different days and times) and with 4 dentists working there now... none of them were working on the days we all went. It's so disappointing that we have to find a new dentist after all of our years with Dr. Calhoun. I wish his caring, personal service was something that carried through with this new arrangement.

Lauren Mendenhaul cleaned my teeth beautifully today. She has a thorough approach and gentle touch. She talked to me about good dental hygiene and I feel confident about her work and carrying attitude. Did not get to see Dr Kaslow today but will for my next appointment six months from now. He is a fantastic dentist and great person. I'm so pleased we were able to follow them both and change our practice to Lompoc.

I had a wonderful cleaning with hygienist Liz. She was very thorough and knowledgeable. X-rays were a breeze, and Dr. Kaslow is so genuine and sweet!

Amazing staff . They took the time to recheck a root canal that a prior dentist said needed to be redone . They found me an endodondist in network and I am on my way To better teeth . Couldn't have had a better experience:)

Dr. Calhoun is retiring, and Dr. Kaslow is now in office. I have a complicated dental/gum problem and Dr. Kaslow presented a reasonable treatment plan. His is personable and explained everything. Office has nice relaxed vibe.
