Dr. James W. Mellert is a South Bay native and USC dental graduate. In Torrance since 1982, his practice places special emphasis on aesthetic, periodontal and implant dentistry. Dr. Mellerts state-of-the-art new office features 3-D Galileo imaging for dental implant diagnosis and the newest generation of digital radiography.
My grandfather, Roy Mellert, DDS, and father, William Mellert, DDS, modeled a passion, commitment and caring for their patients throughout their long and successful careers. These traits are contagious, and I caught them at an early age.
Ive been doing connective tissue root coverage grafting for over 30 years. Ive recently added the Chao Pinhole gum grafting technique with amazing results. This grafting procedure provides less discomfort and downtime.
Its our honor to treat fearful patients and help them conquer their fears. Its a big step for a patient to come into our office and to trust my team and me. I listen nonjudgmentally, and when the patient is comfortable, I begin treatment easily and slowlyat the patients pace. I want them to feel in control at all times. As patients gain confidence, their fear diminishes. Often these patients who were once fearful of the dentist have ended up referring us to many of their family and friends.
I chose Dr. Steven Brown to join my office over 20 years ago. He does a fantastic job with cosmetic fillings and bonding, resulting in a beautiful smile. He also uses oral appliances to treat mild apnea (snoring) and CPAP intolerance.
I play tennis for an hour every morning, try to eat well, and brush three times a day and floss. I enjoy keeping up-to-date with all aspects of health-related topics. I truly enjoy dentistry and believe I am blessed to have found a profession I love.
My name is Dr. Steven Brown and I am a practicing dentist in Torrance, CA. Over the last six years, I have developed a particular interest in sleep related breathing disorders and their management with dental appliances. I have taken extensive coursework through UCLA in 2010, 2011, and 2013, as well as coursework at USC in 2009. Ive also participated in seminars through the California Sleep Society and attended seminars and conferences through the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, of which Ive been a member since 2011.
Dr. Jamie Mellert Houck is an enthusiastic, gentle, and passionate dentist who focuses on patient centered care. She earned her BA in Psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University and her DDS degree from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Dr. Houck is proud to be a fourth generation USC dentist and is blessed to practice alongside her father, Dr. Mellert. She is gifted at providing dental care for children and is passionate about preventative and conservative dental treatment for patients of all ages.Dr. Houck is a top trained Invisalign doctor, serves on the Board of Directors on the American Academy of Clear Aligners (AACA), and is the President of an Invisalign Reingage Class.Straightening teeth through the use of clear aligners has allowed Dr. Houck to give patients life-changing confidence in their smile. Dr. Houck truly believes in changing lives through compassionate dental care onesmileat a time.
Dr. Houck grew up in the South Bay and is grateful to practice in the same community where she was raised. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, playing the piano, and going on adventures with her daughter Jayden and her husband Tim.

Ever since I've gone to dr. Mellert s office my fear of going to the dentist went away from my first visit with this awesome practice. I had a very bad experience awhile back which made me fear the dentists but Dr. Mellert s dental practice has brought my trust back from being fearful of laying in the chair . Thank you to dr. Looking for a good dentist is always a challenge yet look no further and go see Dr. Mellert and his team as they are the best dentist I have ever been to - everyone is friendly, helpful, nice and take precautions for Covid with safety masks. I had an appointment for cleaning today, was brought in right on time, Nicole was super nice and, as usual, cleaning was done efficiently, thorough and it was an overall pleasant experience. Dr. Jim performed a pinhole gum graft on my left upper gum line since then had receded and where exposed. He explained the procedure in detail and I was concerned as it sounded very involved. But he put me at ease and did the work in about an hour. The pain was very little and the healing was quick and the follow up was great. I plan on having the right upper side done early next year. I'm very pleased with the out come and the appearance. Thanks Jim you did a great job. DAC
