A passion for excellence has been a constant driving force for Dr. James Childress. Attending UC Davis he graduated with High Honors with a BA in Zoology and was elected to both Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi national honor societies. He expanded his outlook on life by spending his junior undergraduate year studying abroad in West Africa and was also a member of the Varsity tennis team at UCD. Dr. Childress attended UC San Francisco School of Dentistry where he earned several awards for clinical excellence, served as class president and was elected to Omicron Upsilon Kappa National Dental Honor Society. Following graduation from dental school he applied for and was selected to a prestigious general practice residency program at UCLA, enhancing his training in diagnostic, restorative and surgical aspects of dentistry. Early in his career Dr. Childress was a clinical instructor at the UCSF School of Dentistry and was honored with a most outstanding instructor award.
Davis Dentist, Dr. Childress has provided dental care for the residents of Davis and surrounding communities for more than 30 years. His reputation for excellence in the quality of personalized care he provides his patients has been recognized both locally and nationally. Dr. Childress has been voted Best Dentist in Yolo County by the readers of the Davis Enterprise newspaper 13 years in a row! The Consumers Research Council of America, a Washington D.C. research organization lists Dr. Childress as one of Americas Top Dentists.
Giving back to his profession is something Dr. Childress holds dear. He served as President of the former Yolo County Dental Health Foundation for many years, helping raise money to provide treatment for those in need of dental care. He continues to donate his skills in a local area clinic for patients without other resources for care.
Dr. Childress is supported in his profession and shares his life with his wife, Lucinda, and their two sons, Parker and Eliot. When not at work Dr. Childress is an avid woodworker and bicyclist and enjoys doing family things. The Childress family resides in Davis and shares their home with 2 kitties and their third and fourth sons in the form of golden retrievers, Buddy and Max.

If you are looking for a dental practice that is on the cutting edge of dental science, then look no further. The staff in the front office are so friendly and personable. They make me and my family feel so welcome every time I come in. My hygienist, Lori, is very good at her job. She does an excellent job cleaning my teeth, while ensuring my comfort and engaging me in pleasant conversation. The office is super clean and there are orchids everywhere! Recently my youngest had to have a flaw in his tooth filled. Dr. Jim and his assistant put my son at ease and the procedure was completley painless and not at all traumatic! My kids love Dr. Jim, he always makes their visit to the office one to look forward to. No easy feat when you are dealing with young children and the dentist! I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Childress and his amazing staff!

I have never had such a good dental appointment and I'm 66 years old. Everybody was friendly, professional and informative. Dr Childress especially was incredibly informative, going over X-rays and mouth pictures and describing everything. Later we went over various treatment options. The ladies up front were very clear and transparent regarding costs and insurance. I had been going to some fine dentists, but I never had such an informative and educational experience about my own teeth. I almost can't wait for my next visit.

I cannot express how awesome this office is. I love all of the hygienists, so when I have to change my appt and see someone else I never worry. Dr Childress is in a league of his own. I have my teeth cleaned twice annually at Dr. Childress. Also, recently, I had a tooth extracted. The staff are very professional, and the equipment is modern and top notch. They have very strict COVID19 protocols, which I appreciate. I've had dental work done over the years, and I can say Dr. Childress is careful to make sure the patient doesn't feel pain, and gets through the procedure without much suffering. I highly recommend.

GO AGAIN: Yes! I have my teeth cleaned 4 times a year, even though I have to pay for the two visits not covered by insurance. Wonderful teeth cleaning by Lori! Dr. Childress is such a fantastic dentist: highly competent and does outstanding work. I've been his patient for over 30 years. And, the office staff are friendly and easy to work with. Thank you.

Who loves going to the dentist? At least with Dr. Childress the experience is comfortable and the staff is accommodating. The hygienists are very gentle in their cleaning. The staff are the best!

I have been going to Dr. Childress's office for over 15 years and he's an amazing dentist with incredible staff. Jim is a caring perfectionist who tailors his care to your individual needs. He does not push extra procedures and ensures that you are comfortable with all that he does. I can't imagine anyone I would recommend more! I'll miss him, Lori and Christina now that I'm moving out of state.
