Drs. Rapson and Gladziszewski practiced alone until the late 1970s when Dr. Richard Giarrusso joined them. After a short time, Dr. Giarrusso decided he wanted to practice dentistry on his own so he moved on. In 1977, Dr. Timothy OBrien and Dr. Donald (Tom) Sheridan were exiting the Navy and joined Drs. Rapson and Gladziszewski. The building was enlarged when they came in. The four dentists each had two operatories and there were five rooms for dental hygienists.
Dr. Gladziszewski retired in 1986. That is when Dr. Paul Edwards joined the partnership. Dr. Gregory French joined a few months later. At that time, Dr. Rapson worked part time until the end of 1992. Dr. OBrien retired in 2001. When he retired, Dr. Lawrence Corso was recruited as a partner.
For many years, the practiced consisted of Drs.Sheridan, Edwards French and Corso. Dr. Sheridan decided to retire in the summer of 2015. As he retired, Dr. Yvonne Tsay joined the practice. She is a graduate of UB and had been practicing in California prior to relocating in New York. The newest dentist in the practice, Dr. Stephen Streiff, joined the practice after completing his residency at Upstate. The staff has grown to include 5 dentists, 7 dental hygienists, 5 dental assistants, 4 front desk personnel and the office manager.
Equipment updates have been ongoing. Three years ago we acquired our iTero digital impression unit. It is a high tech method of impression-taking that allows us to email the impression to the labs. It is less burdensome on the patients too. All operatories are equipped with computers and we have updated to digital x-rays. By using digital sensors, the small amount of radiation exposure used previously was cut to about 75% of the previous exposure. The panorex unit allows us to take whole-mouth x-rays needed by oral surgeons, orthodontists and other specialists. It saves the patient time when referred out. Digital x-rays can even be sent directly to the specialists by email.
Many of the present patients are either original patients of Drs. Rapson and Gladziszewski or the 2nd or 3rd generation of them. The practice prides themselves in being family oriented. They try to treat each patient as an individual and not a number. Most of the employees have been there over 20 years. In this day and age, it is comforting to know that you will see a familiar face when you walk through the door.
