For patients who prefer a traditional treatment option, we offer metal braces! Metal braces are made of high-grade space age metal alloys; they use brackets, archwires and elastic bands to straighten the teeth and align the jaw bones.
Interested in a more unique alternative to traditional braces? Gold braces function the same as traditional braces, are equally as effective as traditional bracesand add a little extra flair to your smile.
Gold braces are made of high-grade stainless steel brackets and archwires, coated in 24-karat gold. You can choose gold-colored elastics to complete your look with a discreet, monochromatic color scheme.
Damon braces have self-ligating brackets, which means they dont require elastic ties to hold the archwire to the bracket. Instead, Damon braces use a slide mechanism that enables the archwire to be clipped into the bracket.

Dr. Scarborough attended the Medical College of Virginia, the VCU School of Dentistry, where he studied four years of dentistry graduating summa cum laude and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
He then was accepted to the nationally recognized VCU Orthodontic Residency Program here in our very own Richmond, where he received an additional two years of orthodontic training and a Masters Degree in Oral Biology.
Dr. Scarborough and his family have lived in Richmond for the past 15 years and are very excited to be a part of the RVA community! He is a dedicated husband and father and in his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and their two kids, Jackson and Sophia.

They have done wonders with my daughters teeth. What other orthodontists wanted to do with braces and springs they accomplished with Invisalign. All of my kids always want to come to their siblings appointments for the ice cream and hot chocolate. Their staff is wonderful and couldn't be nicer. We are very pleased with our decision to trust our kids teeth to JRO.

Honestly one of the best orthodontist sites in VA. The staff are super friendly, the place is always kept clean, they tell you everything they're going to do for you, and they walk you through the entire process! You even get Frozen yogurt !

My daughter is getting braces and everything from walking in the front door, waiting with a beverage and being with any of the staff through the entire process, has been amazing along with choosing the payment plan offered was just so seem less! I couldn't have asked for a better experience from an office!!! Professional & there for us every step of the way!!!

In 2015 my son Jason was referred to James River Orthodontics when he was in 3rd grade. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. After meeting Kristen and Dr. Scarborough I knew that this was the place to be for my son to receive his treatment. Everything was and still is explained to me in great detail. I know where I stand in terms of treatment, insurance stuff and payments. I know that I can always ask questions, and I feel that every single person that works at this office listens to me and cares about their patients. My son has gone through two phases of braces and is now in 10th grade. I have been so impressed with the staff, Dr. Scarborough, and Dr. Loflin that I decided to stay with James River when my daughter needed braces. She spent a couple of years standing by her brother's dental chair and is now in her second phase of braces. I live in Powhatan and the drive to the original office and now this one is totally worth my time. Not only are the staff amazing, so is the environment of the office. It is a welcoming place and a very comfortable office. Also let's not forget that famous frozen yogurt machine and the candy wall!!!!! What a great idea. Thank you for taking such great care of my kids! Because of you, they will always smile with a purpose!

I highly recommend JRO to anyone! From the consultation to getting my braces everyone was so nice and made me feel super comfortable! At every visit everything is throughly explained and the receptionists are very helpful whenever I call in. If I could give you 10 stars I would!

JRO is a great orthodontist! The staff at JRO don't only care about your oral hygiene, they care about how you are feeling. The staff is always having friendly conversations with their patients. Nothing about JRO is bad. I would totally recommend JRO for you.
