Born and raised in the Richmond area, Dr. James Burton received his undergraduate and Masters of Teaching degrees from the University of Virginia. He taught middle school for several years and worked in youth ministry before pursuing his dental education at the University of Louisville. Jimmy and his wife, Sarah, have two daughters. His family is regularly involved in the girls school activities as well as in church ministry. He is well-known for his warm personality, gentle manner, and exceptional dental skills.
Charity and mission work are very important to Dr. Burton both personally and professionally. He has served in the dental mission field of El Progresso, Honduras, and provides care to members of the local community through regular work at the Lynchburg Free Clinic and for children affiliated with the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home.

Dr. Burton has been our family dentist for years. My husband and I appreciate the care he provides and his ability to put you at ease with his pleasant, calming demeanor. My hygienist, Carol is wonderful and does a great job also. We have recommended Dr. Burton to several people and will continue to do so.

Dr. Burton has proven to be very attentive to detail over the years that my family has been seeing him. He and his staff are very friendly, approachable, and easy to work with. Dr. Burton is clearly someone very knowledgeable in the field that he practices and based upon my experience with him, he has always steered me in the right direction regarding my dental health. Our family highly recommends Dr. James Burton. Dr. Burton and his staff have taken great care of our family of 5. Specifically, our 10 year old son recently needed extractions to prepare for some orthodontic work. For starters, Dr. Burton worked seamlessly with our local orthodontist. Dr. Burton's staff was able to get us scheduled in a timely manor. Our son was anxious about the procedure. Dr. Burton was reassuring and compassionate. He took the time to explain the process and helped our son become more comfortable. The extractions went well and our son is now on his way to a straighter smile because of Dr. Burton. This is reflective of several visits our family has had with Dr. Burton and his team. We appreciate Dr. Burton and his team!

New to the area. I need deep cleaning due to gum issues. My first cleaning session was painless, not so for the next three. Also, dentist spent very little time explaining what was needed. Only seemed interested in selling implants which he does there in his office. Also there was confusion concerning my dental insurance plan. Took 4 visits for them to successfully put my dental insurance in their computer. Will be searching for a new dentist.

The dental hygienists are great with children and I never have the dreadful feeling of going to the dentist and my kids do not mind coming either! From the office staff to the hygienists to the dentists, we love Dr. Burton's office! During my first appointment here, my hygienist gave me one of the most thorough assessments and cleanings I've ever had. When my son chipped his tooth, Dr. Burton saw him the next business day to repair it. Dr. Burton has a calming presence and a great sense of humor that puts anxious patients at ease! My family will rely on Dr. Burton's office for exceptional dental care!

This office staff and billing has no idea what they are doing! I told them in December that I would be losing my insurance at the end of January. They file the predetermining request for my lower teeth instead of my upper so it was denied. I went in for more xrays not understanding what the issue was and thought the dentist had changed my care plan. But no the office had sent in the wrong code. By the time the correct filing was done I no longer had My second policy. I received a call telling me what my primary would pay. I then called Laura and explained that I would purchase "cobra" coverage and asked if they had a reply from my secondary insurance. She called back to tell me I no longer had that policy. After I just explained it had canceled but I was purchasing the cobra policy. Again not able to communicate with their staff in billing. I would not recommend this office. And I now understand why I had to pay upfront because their billing department does not know what they are doing. I worked in insurance for years so their excuses make no sense to me. Also wish I had read Jessica miller's review I have told them my dentures don't fit my mouth is sore by 2 every afternoon. Feels like it is on fire. Went back 3 or 4 times and they could not adjust them anymore. Had they filed my insurance correctly I'd have my permanent partial and insurance would have covered the over 1,000 but because of their mistakes it only would go through my primary which only covered a little over $300. And they wanted $1500. To make an appointment to finish partial.

I had major dental work that I had put off for years. My first visit to Dr. Burton was extremely awesome. They became family. This is a very family oriented Dentistry. You are known from your first visit. No long wait time, extremely friendly and compassionate. I highly recommend them. I have a Dentist for life.
