After considering his natural gifts, skillsets, and overall temperament, Dr. Sue quickly realized that becoming a dentist was the perfect career that would allow him to live a purposeful and fulfilling life. He genuinely enjoys being able to serve and help others while also making positive, lifelong differences in their health. In fact, he regularly travels to 2nd or 3rd world countries like Kenya, Cambodia, Brazil, and Kazakhstan in order to volunteer his services to populations who are less fortunate.
Dr. Sue completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1975 through San Diego State University before pursuing his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of the University of Southern California. Upon graduation, he continued to pursue advanced training through prestigious programs like the Pankey Institute, the Kois Center, and SPEAR. He is also part of a restorative study group through the University of Southern California and an Elite Member of Dental Sleep Masters, as well as a Certified ClearCorrect provider. He considers himself a perpetual lifelong learner for both personal and professional growth; he enjoys being able to serve his patients more effectively and provide clinical excellence! He is currently a member of the following organizations:
Dr. Sue is a proud San Diego native and has lived in the South Pasadena areas for multiple decades. He and his wife April have two grown children, a son-in-law, and a grandson. In his free time, his hobbies include being with family, traveling, playing tennis, and snowboarding. He is also extremely passionate about working with local non-profit organizations such as Heavenly Treasures, Empowering Lives International, and Elizabeth House, providing much-needed dental care and serving those who are in dire need such as the poor, the oppressed, orphans, and widows. He has a real desire for making the world a better place for mankind one person at a time!
You will enjoy having Clarence as your assistant while with us because her main priority is to always make the patient comfortable and listen to their concerns. Its amazing how you can feel her infectious smile and genuine warmth and caring even with her mask on.
Gloria is our healthy gum producing, tartar eliminating, preventive dental care to patients for their overall health and well-being in order to keep you out of our chair more than in it hygienist extraordinaire! She loves being a professional health care provider. As a RDH (Registered Dental Hygienist) her many years in the dental field have been rewarding and a sense of pride helping others become and stay dentally healthy!

Dr. J has been my #1 choice for years. I cancelled my last dentist and waited until he reopened from Virus restrictions just to see him and I am glad I did, he corrected the treatment plan they had and fixed my chipped front tooth. Very fast and painless work. Highly Recommend!!

My heart rate usually goes up a few hours before I visit a dentist. This has not been my experience at Dr Kakanar's dental chair, I am happy to say. He is calm, and his office has a quiet atmosphere. My husband and I appreciate his gentle and reassuring manner. I think our teeth concur.

Dr. Kakanar runs an efficient dental office and is most attentive to hygiene protocols. He sees one patient at a time which makes the office and exam rooms seem more peaceful. Dr. Kakanar takes the right approach to identify and investigate any issues and share with the patient with visual aids and summary. I feel comfortable with my current dental status, but also understand the long-term outlook and what to anticipate down the road.

Dentist Kakanar's office visit was smooth from beginning to end. The staff was very nice, profesional and the whole experience did not feel at all like any dreadful dentist visit. Mr. Kakanar was detailed in his cleaning while attentive when he explained his findings and possible issues down the road.

For most people going to the dentist can be a stressful experience to say the least. But I can tell you that the exact opposite will be true if you go see Dr. Kakanar. I had my first exam and cleaning this week with him and it was great! He is incredibly thorough, gentle, and he keeps you informed on what he is doing and why. You will not be in the dark! I felt like I was in good hands for sure. Also important- the office and exam areas were very clean and calm. It was an overall great experience and I'm happy that I have found my permanent dentist!
