Miller Dental - General dentist in Grand Rapids, MI

Dr. Miller grew up in Rockford, MI and has lived in West Michigan for most of his life. For him, dentistry made perfect sense as a career choice. It allowed him to combine his affinity for science with his desire to work with people and serve his community. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Aquinas College before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Detroit Mercy in 2012. Having the opportunity to help those in need of dental care in Detroit was a rewarding experience both personally and educationally. He has since enjoyed helping people improve their overall health and self-image through dental care in West Michigan. He enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, camping with the family, running and biking.

Dr. Miller and his team have made a commitment to providing the best dental care available. This includes the introduction of digital radiography, which greatly improves the ability to detect problems earlier, promoting minimally-invasive dentistry while significantly reducing the amount of radiation used to create an image. They continually pursue education to ensure they are offering the best care in the fast-changing dental field. In addition, Dr. Miller attends Spear study group and is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, Michigan Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.

I started my dental career in 1998 after graduating from Lansing Community College as a registered dental assistant. Over the last 20-plus years, I have worked with some amazing people and gained knowledge that has helped lead me into the next chapter of my dental career. In January, I transitioned from a clinical assistant with Dr. Miller to an office manager position. I am very excited and look forward to the future. In my free time, I spend time with my husband and children. I have a son, Trevor, who loves to hunt and fish, and a daughter, Alexys, who keeps me busy with travel all-star cheer. We have a dog named Ben and three cats to keep us busy also!

Passionate about the dental field and caring for patients, I started my dental career in 2001 at Grand Rapids Community College, where I became a registered dental assistant. I very much enjoy the learning process and furthered my education by becoming a certified dental designer for CAD/CAM. Going into my 20th year in the industry, I have the same enthusiasm as I did when I began my career. Born and raised on the west side of the state, my family and I love to spend time on the water and doing activities outdoors. My husband and I love coaching and watching our two children play sports throughout the fall, winter and spring.

Your smile is one of the first things that someone notices about you, and a missing tooth or multiple teeth can put a damper on that first impression. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots used to support a restoration for a missing tooth or teeth, helping to stop or prevent jaw bone loss. By replacing missing tooth roots, dental implants provide people with the strength and stability to eat all the foods they love without struggling to chew. Dental implants can also stimulate and maintain jaw bone, preventing bone loss and helping to maintain facial features. With a visit to your dentist in Grand Rapids, MI , you can find out if you are a candidate for this smiling saving procedure.

Strategically placed, dental implants can be used to support permanent bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the tooth where the root normally is contained. They are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, dental implants can also be used to attach dentures.

Dental implants today are virtually indistinguishable from your other teeth. The appearance is aided in part by the structural and functional connection between the dental implant and the living bone. Implants are typically placed in one sitting, but require a period of osseointegration, which direct anchorage of the implant root and the bone of the jaw occurs.

Osseointegrated implants are the most commonly used and successful type of dental implant, taking anywhere from three to six months to anchor and heal. Once healed and anchored, your dentist in Grand Rapids, MI can complete the procedure with the placement of a crown. As soon as the implant has anchored with the jawbone, artificial prosthesis may be attached and the process is completed. If osseointegration does not occur, the implant may fail.

If you, like millions of adults, have lost one or more teeth, then you understand the unpleasant consequences that accompany tooth loss. Missing teeth result in an older appearance, discomfort, inconvenience and an overall less active lifestyle.

  • Improved Comfort: Implants are securely anchored, so there is no slipping as there is with dentures. This eliminates some of the key inconveniences of dentures, including poor fit, gum irritation, and pain.
  • Convenience: Unlike dentures, dental implants are permanent, eliminating the inconvenience of removing your dentures. With implants, you can brush and care for your teeth just as you would your natural teeth.
  • Not everyone is a good candidate for dental implants. If youve lost one or more of your natural teeth, its possible to continue to live confidently with dental implants from your dentist in Grand Rapids, MI at Jacob S. Miller,DDS. They look and feel exactly like your natural teeth, and unlike conventional restoration solutions, implants can last a lifetime.
