The founder of Jackson Square Dentistry, Dr. Jeff Katz, is originally from New York. He attended the Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington D.C. Following graduation, Dr. Katz was accepted into an interdisciplinary internship/residency program at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. By day, Dr. Katz worked in the Mt. Sinai Dental clinic, while at night and over weekends, he was an on call member of the Mt Sinai Emergency Trauma Team. During that period in New York City , Dr. Katz also found time to attend art and life drawing classes at The Art Students League School of New York.
Dr. Katz has spent many years participating in workshops, symposiums, study groups, and mentorship programs with a continuing goal of providing Jackson Square Dentistry patients with superior dentistry, He has lectured and taught at the UCSF School of Dentistry and at IDEA (Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy). He embraces the evolution of technology and how it enhances the ability to do finer and finer dentistry, However, Dr. Katz maintains a strong belief that the simple fundamental concepts of stability, comfort, and maintainability, should be the underlying theme in all dental procedures and treatment recommendations.
Societies and organizations that Dr. Katz has had affiliations with include the International Academy of Gnathology, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Board of Oral Implantology, Stuart Gnathological Study Group of Laguna Beach, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and the San Francisco Dental Society.
Along with dentistry, Dr. Katz has also had a passion for the wine and food industry. In past years it was not uncommon to find him on the weekends either working in the vineyards of Napa, Sonoma, and Dry Creek Valley wineries; or apprenticing with some of the finest chefs in their restaurant kitchens in the Bay Area. Although he does not run in Marathons any longer, he still enjoys swimming, biking, and skiing.

To help achieve our philosophy, we encourage annual periodic exams. A Periodic Exam (check-up) is an excellent way to minimize orprevent major dental problems from developing. It also allows Dr. Katzto monitor your oral healthand make any adjustments necessary.

Dr. Katz and his team are very knowledgeable and thorough with their work. Despite my best efforts, I am prone to cavities. I needed a partial crown and I was pretty bummed about the procedure. His team helped ease my worries and Dr. Katz did a fabulous job. They are an absolute joy and I highly recommend Dr. Katz and his team.

Great dental practice. I've been going to see Dr Katz since 2012. Everyone is always pleasant and polite. Dr Katz and the technicians are always so gentle that I take naps while they work.

Manda did a great job cleaning my teeth and checking all around health of my gums and condition of crowns. Even photographed a molar crown for me to see and to monitor any changes in future visits.

Flossing my teeth on the weekend I popped a sliver of an old filling out. I wasn't in any pain, but I didn't want it to go there so I left a message for DR Katz's Team. They called me first thing Monday morning and accommodated me same day with a quick exam & clean out of my filling that now requires a crown. I was then scheduled to come back the following Monday to prep for my crown but I didn't have childcare. Their amazing Team said to bring them on in with me as the receptionists daughter would also be there. They kept my kids occupied and didn't seem to mind the interruptions when my kids needed me. My visit was quick and painless in more ways than one and my temporary is still holding strong until my next visit in a few days. Great dental care, team and I feel like family!

Dr. Katz is extraordinary. I have been seeing him since 1990 and his expert care has helped me maintain my oral health. He's a great dentist and I should know dentists always scared me until I sat in his chair 30 years ago. He was so good that when I lived in Washington DC I came to Dr. Katz in San Francisco for my dental care. I trust no one else.

When I walked into Jackson Sq Dentistry I was immediately at ease! The staff is so nice and the space is lovely - classic exposed brick, modest decor and great lighting. The woman at the front desk knew it was me when I walked in the door. She took my temperature and checked my blood oxygen levels to make sure I was healthy. Everyone was wearing masks. The X-rays were painless - something I DREAD - but the technician who helped me was super patient and quick! Then, Dr. Katz. What a nice guy! For the first time in my life, he told me I didn't really need anything! A previous dentist kept telling me I needed a filling but for some reason it just didn't sit right with me. Dr. Katz was like no, you don't need a filling. Why other dentists try to make you do unneeded treatment is beyond me (I get it $$ but just seems so beyond the oath) and how can we ever trust that we actually do need anything? Anyway, Dr. Katz completely earned my trust after trying three other dentists since I've live in San Francisco. I HIGHLY recommend him and all the technicians and staff at JSD!

Dr. Katz is the best dentist I've ever had. He's smart and personable and the Jackson Square team's fantastic. More importantly, Dr. Katz reinvests heavily in newer, better technology. I learn about the latest and greatest in dental technology at every visit. Dr. Katz is the only dentist I've ever written a referral for. I hope I'll never need to visit another dentist.

I can't say enough great things about Dr. Katz and his amazing staff. What I can say is that I have never liked the dentist (anxiety, bad experiences, maybe my childhood dentist didn't have a treasure chest...) BUT Dr. Katz and his phenomenal staff have made me feel at ease, fixed other dentist's poor work and made me smile in the process. Instead of feeling dread when I go to the dentist, now I feel hope.
