If you have trouble getting a good nights rest or are told you snore, you may be one of the over 18 million Americans suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) which is caused by partial or complete blockage of the airways during sleep. Left untreated, Obstructive Sleep Apnea may lead to:

Trained by experts in the field of dental sleep medicine, Dr. Rob has brought cutting-edge technology to the patients in the Southeast Missouri area who have struggled with our shown to be intolerant of the CPAP machine.

By working closely with local sleep doctors, Dr. Etherton has been able to achieve exceptional results in treating patients with sleep apnea using an alternative to the often-cumbersome CPAP machine. This collaborative approach has allowed most patients to receive considerable help from their health insurance and/or Medicare in covering the cost of their oral appliance therapy. This creates a very cost-effective solution to a potentially deadly health concern.

Most major medical insurances, as well as Medicare, cover OAT. Furthermore, new technological advances allow for a compliance recorder to be placed on your appliance which makes OAT an option for those seeking to fulfill their DOT physical requirements.

The procedure for Oral Appliance Therapy is very straightforward and easy on the patient. Dr. Rob will take records of your upper and lower teeth, as well as a record of how your teeth come together. These will be used for device creation and sleep therapy. The appliance is worn nightly and is adjusted at three-week intervals until the optimum lower jaw position is achieved.

There are a number of different FDA approved oral appliances currently available. One of our qualified family dentists will perform a thorough exam to determine the best options for you. You will be able to select an appliance from these options that you feel will be most comfortable, and that you will be most likely to wear.

Dental implants offer several options for the replacement of all of a patients upper and/or lower teeth that improve upon the deficiencies of traditional dentures and may be more affordable than you think allowing patients to have a new smile that functions like their natural teeth.

How it works: Dental implants are placed into the bone onto which a traditional upper or lower denture would rest. Through the use of connecting abutments, dental implants offer a means of anchoring full upper and/or full lower false teeth. These false teeth may be removable so that the patient can remove them and clean them, or they may be permanently attached to the implants.

The benefits of dental implants: The use of dental implants in this manner offers several advantages over traditional dentures. Traditional dentures rest only on the soft tissues of the mouth resulting in the potential for them to shift during eating and talking. This may not only result in embarrassing situations but is also detrimental to the oral tissues. Anchorage with dental implants prevents any shifting of the false teeth, which therefore preserves the oral tissues in a healthy state. Over many years of wearing a denture, the bone underneath the denture will resorb away. This will result in a denture that does not fit as well and, in severe cases, may prevent a patient from being able to wear the denture at all. The placement of dental implants in this bone and their use to anchor false teeth will inhibit this resorption of bone and will allow for many years of being able to comfortably and confidently wear false teeth. Many patients find the long borders of traditional dentures to be uncomfortable and/or have bouts of gagging related to these borders. The extension of these borders, however, is required in order to achieve stability and retention for the denture. In situations such as these, dental implants can be placed which will anchor false teeth with much more conservative and less cumbersome borders (an example would be upper false teeth in the shape of a horseshoe as opposed to a traditional denture which covers the entire roof of the mouth).

What is a dental implant? A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically placed into the jaw bone. Over time the bone of the jaw permanently fuses to the dental implant through a process known as osseointegration, which may take several months. This allows for a tremendously stable and comfortable anchor to support your missing tooth or teeth.

Why dental implants? Dental implants offer the ability to replace missing teeth without having to rely on other healthy teeth for anchorage. In some cases, this can actually provide a more economic alternative to traditional bridgework. Dental implants have been shown over time to have one of the highest long-term success rates of any dental procedure. When properly placed in a healthy individual, dental implants are truly the most permanent solution to missing teeth. This allows the patient to chew, speak, and smile comfortably and confidently for many years.

Single tooth replacement A natural tooth consists of essentially two parts: root in the bone and a crown that rises above the bone and gum tissue. If this tooth is missing or becomes lost due to a cavity, fracture, periodontal disease, or another dental disease, a dental implant may be used to naturally and conservatively replace this missing tooth. The dental implant closely resembles and serves as a replacement for the natural tooth root. On top of this dental implant is placed a crown that is connected to the dental implant by way of an abutment (essentially a connecting piece). This not only preserves the teeth on either side of the missing tooth but also preserves the bone at the site of the missing tooth and offers a more natural and permanent solution when compared to traditional bridgework.

Replacement of several teeth Similar to a situation in which a patient may be missing or lose a single tooth, several teeth in a row may be missing or become lost. In this situation, dental implants may be used to replace the natural tooth roots of two or more of these missing teeth. Bridges may then be placed on top of these dental implants by way of abutments (essentially connecting pieces). These bridges allow for several teeth to be replaced without the necessity of a dental implant for every individual missing tooth. Unlike traditional bridgework, a dental implant-supported bridge does not require the compromise of otherwise healthy teeth around the area.

I have a serious fear of dental work but from moment I walked in until I left everyone made me feel completely at ease. I'm very impressed first time ever I was completely comfortable very first visit. I highly recommend going to them. Dr Edwards was who I seen. He and his assistants are top notch and extremely good with people that are overly nervous. Thank you so much for putting me so comfortable.

First of all, let me start by saying I have been in the dental field for 10+ years. I just moved here and was looking for a dentist for my fiance. When we got to the dental office, we were greeted by friendly and smiling faces. Next came the hygienist Jennifer. She was absolutely amazing. The way she explained his dental needs was top notch and was so accommodating to his work schedule. Last but not least Dr. Edwards. He was super. Amazing patient care! I was very impressed with the entire staff and the facility. As long as I am here, this will be our dental home. A+++++++++

Won't be going back. Thanks for showing your true colors. My previous dentist, Dr Hughes, in Herrin, IL (go read my review there if you'd like for more background) gave me above and beyond "poor" treatment for a fake review that my brother made but made it seem as if I did it so I left his practice. I told Edwards everything about what happened with my previous dentist but Dr Edwards spoke to him and followed up with more poor treatment. The dentistry fraternity is strong haha. Sticking together through wrong or right, not following the Hippocratic Oath of Doctors, clearly. Just taking whatever my previous dentist said as gospel, as if he's the good guy and then continuing the awful treatment on me. If anyone employed at Jackson Dental who was involved/aware of what occurred today, has a soul and wants to get in touch with me after realizing you have a conscious..you have my records on file, go ahead and reach out. We could get this out there in the public eye and show how blatant and ridiculous it all is. I went for my cleaning today 11/1/22 to find out my hygienist Jennifer was conveniently in the building but "something came up" so I got a new girl I've never seen before. Didn't give me her name, probably knew a review was coming afterwards. This girl didn't clean below the gumline at all, and intentionally scraped my teeth, trying to damage them most of the time during the appointment while acting like she's getting plaque. This was the same thing that happened (among many other bad things, see the Hughes review) under Dr Hughes, so this was nothing new but I didn't think Jackson Dental would stoop so low. Maybe Jennifer had a conscious and couldn't be that low of a human so the other girl stepped in. I've always had Jennifer for my cleanings and it was always good so that was weird from the start. She literally gave me a cup of water instead of the usual mouthwash and said "swish this around"... lol. If I did something to deserve this that's one thing but that's still actually morally and socially wrong to do. The point is I've done nothing to deserve this. You don't treat people and their teeth like that. It's just one dentist having the others back, even if it's the wrong thing to do. God is real, karma does exist. I hope y'all feel good about continuing to do the wrong thing to a patient who's experienced it in the past.

I have a pretty healthy fear of the dentist, which, as you can imagine, has lead to a lot of dental issues. I started going to Jackson Dental last year. I'm still afraid of the dentist, but they've done an excellent job calming my anxieties, getting me through all the procedures and--most notably-- putting a smile on my face.
