Dr. J. Douglas Wooddell grew up in the Washington D.C. area and graduated from University of Maryland Dental School in 1985. Soon thereafter, he moved to Virginia to open his office in Annandale. For the past 30-plus years, he has continued to build his practice by providing quality, caring service for his patients. He is regularly voted as a top dentist in the Northern VA and Washington, D.C. areas.
Dr. Wooddell is a member of the Millenium Dental Study Club, the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the Northern Virginia Implant Society, the Virginia Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He is ranked as a top dentist in both the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas, by several local publications and organizations.
Comprehensive dental care is the backbone of our patient treatment and is a significant part of our office philosophy. Dr. Wooddell believes that it is very important to thoroughly examine a patients entire mouth, gums, and surrounding areas in order to provide a treatment plan that allows for complete and comprehensive care of the entire mouth as an important part of your body, not just a separate entity.
After performing a complete examination, Dr. Wooddell will suggest and discuss a treatment plan that is individualized for each patient. It is our goal to educate our patients as much as possible. This allows them to understand the treatment that we recommend and therefore make the best possible decision about their treatment choices.

I have gone to this dentist for a while now and my experience has been amazing. I have had regular 6 month appointments and one filling and every single visit has been very pleasant. I have been seeing Dr Wooddell and his team for years. They are excellent - friendly, trustworthy, efficient and careful in their work. Even though I moved to DC years ago, I prefer to drive out to Annandale to see them rather than switch to another dentist!

When I first met Dr. Wooddell I literally had a phobia of going to the dentist. Now I actually like going. His gentle and confident manner alleviated my fears. I felt comfortable enough to try nitrous oxide which helps. He is also highly skilled. He has taken care of numerous cavities and crowns. After moving to northern Virginia recently, my husband and I had a bad experience with another dentist, and someone recommended Dr. Wooddell. Susan was friendly on the phone and worked hard to get our records from that other dentist. Laurie was welcoming and made us feel very comfortable when we got back to the chair. We were at ease with Dr. Wooddell and felt like he explained everything clearly and honestly. We are looking forward to developing a long and wonderful relationship.
