Dr. Howell believes that listening and communication are the most important ways to develop trust, confidence and a respectful relationship with his patients. We understand that dental treatment can be stressful. Our office and staff are committed to providing a relaxing, comfortable environment where patients can receive the best dental treatments available. Our goal is to make each visit a positive experience.
Dr. Howell received dual bachelors degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Valparaiso University in 1979. After five years of neurochemical research, Dr. Howell attended and graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, receiving his Doctorate in Dental Surgery 1988. Dr. Howell has maintained a private practice in Urbana since 1989. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Howell is proud to volunteer at the Promise Healthcare, Smile Heathy Dental Clinic, providing dental care to the underserved community.
As an active member in the dental profession, Dr. Howell is a member of many professional organizations including the American Dental Association and the Illini District Dental Society. In 2013 Dr. Howell was honored to serve as President of the Illinois State Dental Society, representing over 15,000 dentists and hygienists in Illinois.
Nationally, Dr. Howell has served the American Dental Association on many committees, task forces and Councils. In 2016 Dr. Howell was elected to Chair the American Dental Associations Council on Governmental Affairs in Washington, DC.

Be careful! This office won't not check your insurance either it is cover or not, then they would bill you full amount of for the service. When I contact with them, front desk said it is my response to call my insurance while my teeth is cleaning. The office worker were so rude, tell me good luck on calling business bureau.

When I moved to the Champaign area, I was nervous about finding a new dentist, and my boss recommended Dr. Howell. I am so grateful for that recommendation and have since referred several people there myself over the past five years. I needed an extensive amount of reconstruction done, and Dr. Howell provided a detailed treatment plan, working with me step-by-step throughout the process. He is extremely skilled while being incredibly kind; he puts people at ease in what can be a stressful situation. The staff at his practice are also amazing people and wonderful to work with. I highly recommend Dr. Howell to absolutely everyone looking for a dentist.

I came to Dr. Howell after years of not going to any dentist at all and with 10 or so cavities and a dead tooth. He got me taken care of and my mouth in tip top shape in no time. Not only that but his staff is super friendly and helpful! Couldn't recommend any higher

Can't share enough good things about all of my experiences at Dr. Howell's office. The front desk staff are kind and helpful and all of the hygienists and dental assistants are friendly and professional. Before I saw Dr. Howell, I was so embarrassed of my smile, but he went the extra mile to make sure I look and feel my best. Two root canals and two crowns later, I have never felt more confident! I could never thank him enough- he honestly changed my life and my smile forever!!!
