Prior to opening his Fairfax dental practice, Dr. J. Alexander Withers graduated from Woodson High School, The University of Virginia and was awarded a B.A. in Biology. After graduating from The Medical College of Virginia where he earned his D.D.S. degree, he entered a General Practice Residency in Dentistry at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He completed his residency in Periodontics at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, receiving his certificate in Periodontics and an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences. He then completed his board examinations in Periodontics and became a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. After ten years active duty in the U.S. Air Force, and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he separated from the Air Force and opened his private Fairfax dental practice.
He is a member of the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the Virginia Dental Association, The American Dental Association, The American Academy of Periodontology, The Academy of Osseointegration, The Northern Virginia Dental Implant Society, and The Southern Academy of Periodontology.
Leslie has been practicing as a dental hygienist since 1988. After attending Rutgers University, she received her dental hygiene degree from Middlesex County College in NJ. Upon moving to northern Virginia, she joined Dr. Withers office in 2001. Leslies vast knowledge of periodontics is enhanced by taking continuing education courses and keeping abreast of the latest advances in periodontal therapy, as well as her post-graduate studies at East Tennessee State University. Leslies commitment to patient education is exceptional and greatly contributes to our patients overall dental health. Leslie has three children and enjoys cycling, yoga and papercrafts. We are truly fortunate to have Leslie as a member of our team!
Ana has been a dental assistant since 1997 and has been with our office since 2007. She is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of dental and surgical assisting. She works closely with Dr. Withers to ensure the comfort of our patients at all time. Because she is fluent in Spanish, she brings another dimension to our practice that is helpful to many patients. We are very fortunate to have Ana with us.
Our Patient Coordinator is Tracie Brittle. Tracie has been in the dental field since 1996 and takes pride in the care she gives to patients. As a valued member of our team, Tracie is in charge of patients visits from the first phone call through the completion of active treatment and beyond. Her ability to field questions concerning scheduling, finances and insurance is a most valuable part of our patient experience. We are very proud to have her on our team. Tracie is married with one daughter and enjoys cooking, gardening and working out at the gym.
Pam has been in the dental field for over 20 years and has been with Dr. Withers since 1997. In her current role of Implant Coordinator, she works closely with patients and their referring dentist to ensure that the implant process is seamless. Her knowledge of the implant process is exceptional. Pam also works with scheduling and the entire patient experience. She is indeed a valuable team member.

I had been battling a problem with my gums for a year, trying everything and nothing was making it better. Even my regular dentist was unable to resolve the problem and seemed confused about what was going on. I went to see Withers and I am so happy I did! He diagnosed the problem right away and the treatment he suggested has fixed the issue! I am so relieved! I can't say enough great things about the laser surgery that was done by Withers, it was fast and relatively painless. Withers and all of his staff are so kind and attentive. I highly recommend this practice!

Dr. Withers and his team are terrific. They do a great job on periodic periodontal care helping to keep you out of the need for more invasive treatments.

Wonderful doctor and staff. My regular dentist sent me to Dr Withers a month ago, to deal with my first perio issue. Initial eval/surgery/two followups -- all were done efficiently and thoughtfully. Dr. Withers took the extra time to explain what may have caused my issue (I am giving up water pik for flossing only). Did you know water pik can be hazardous to your gums? Highly recommended for those new to perio, like me.

I needed an implant to support a crown for a tooth I lost. Dr. Withers was recommended by another dentist to do the implant. Dr. Withers was knowledgeable, explained the process, and provided the cost upfront. When I went in to have the work done, the office staff was superb. I never had any delay in the waiting room - in fact I usually arrived a few minutes early and was taken back before my actual appointment time. Dr. Withers was quick too - it seemed that I was in and out in no time. All of the staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome.

Dr. Withers and the entire team were excellent reducing the anxiety about my gum graft. These procedures are nerve wracking and can be painful, but everything went smoothly, with very little pain, just as the team prepared me for. Dr. Wither and his team have my strongest recommendation for any periodontal work anyone would have in the future.

This office is wonderful. The staff is always friendly and efficient. I've been seeing Dr. Withers and the same hygienist, Leslie, over the last ten years and couldn't be more happy with results. They thoroughly explain every procedure that needs to be done. And more importantly, they make you feel very comfortable. Highly recommend if you need periodontal work done!

I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Withers and the staff. The staff is very friendly and responsive, and Dr. Withers knows his trade. I have never been kept waiting at my appointment time. Dr Withers and staff were really wonderful to work with. My daughter needed some work done on her gums. Best experience ever! I knew Dr. Withers is very experienced and the best in his field, but I was still scared to get a gum graph because I do not like pain. The procedure was seamless and pain free, but I was prepared for some pain on the roof of my mouth after the anesthesia wore off. However, the pain never came! I did not have to take any over the counter pain meds. It is 2 months post surgery and I'm very happy with the results. I just can't believe I got a successful gum graph without ever feeling pain. It was like a sprinkle of magic to make this whole procedure pain free. Good doctors are a rare find, but exceptional doctors like Dr. Withers are even rarer!

Was very impressed by Dr. Withers entire office. Everyone was friendly and professional. Following my exam, Dr. Winters thoroughly explained my options and answered all my questions. What i liked most was that I never felt pressured to make a quick decision - He made me feel like I was his only patient! I would highly recommend this practice.
