Dr. Plata has been in private practice since 1996, and has limited her practice to periodontics, laser periodontics and dental implants. She began studying dentistry at the Colegio Odontologico Colombiano (UNICOC) in Bogot, Colombia for her Doctorate in Dental Surgery and later earned her M.S. degree at Loyola University of Chicago. Soon after she earned her Certificate in Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Plata is an active member of the dental community participating in several professional organizations including the Texas Mission of Mercy and volunteering dental services to less fortunate communities in Colombia.
Dr. Plata has been married to Dr. Carlos Plata for over 30 years and both are active members of the St. Thomas Apostle Church in Amarillo. Together they have 2 children who are both grown and actively pursuing their own careers.
