You will find several persons involved with your oral therapy in our practice. Because this concept may be new to you, an explanation will probably help you understand the logic behind this type of practice. You will be treated by several categories of clinicians and technicians on the oral health care team. Each team member accomplishes his or her part of your therapy to an optimum level.

2. Expanded Duty Dental Assistants: Some clinical tasks accomplished for you in the past by a previous dentist will be done by our qualified and experienced dental assistants. You will enjoy the professionalism and efficiency of these people, and their clinical activities will help to keep the cost of your treatment as low as possible.

3. Laboratory Technicians: During many procedures, dental laboratory technicians will be present in the clinical environment. Allowing them to see and assist with your therapy provides you with better clinical quality and keeps costs down.

4. Other Specialist Dentists: You may be referred to an endodontist (root canals), periodontist (gums and bone), oral surgeon, orthodontist, pediatric dentist (children), or prosthodontist for special therapy. After the completion of the special therapy, you will probably come back to us for routine check-ups or further treatment.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Frank Humphreys. He passed very suddenly on August 2nd. He was an exceptional dentist, loved by many, and will be profoundly missed by our team. Out of respect for his family and the difficult process that death can present, we waited to send this letter until all details of a transition were finalized.

We are excited to announce that our office is starting the transition of a new partnership with Habersham Dental and will be welcoming a new dentist, Dr. Payton Smith. Dr. Smith graduated from the Dental College of Georgia in Augusta, GA in 2016. He is highly skilled in specialty procedures, having completed an advanced training program in dental surgery, IV sedation, and implants after the completion of dental school. He has also been trained to use advanced CAD CAM technology to provide same day crowns and restorations. Dr. Smith is married to a local pediatric dentist, Dr. Morgan Smith, who works with Dogwood Pediatrics. Dr. Smith and his wife welcomed their first child, a little boy named Boaen, earlier this year.

With Dr. Smiths guidance, our goal is to replicate the same quality and exceptional care level that has made Habersham Dental the most reputable office in Savannah. While also maintaining all the convenience and comforts that you have grown to expect from your neighborhood office on the island. Therefore, we will also be transitioning to a new name Islands Family Dental. We believe this represents our commitment to the island community and care for your entire family.

We are excited to build on the legacy Dr. Humphreys left behind and hope to make him proud with this new venture. We appreciate our patients and your continued support during this difficult time. We cant wait to see you in the coming months. If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to call or stop by the office.

Dr. Susan Smith is a native of Macon, GA and has lived in Savannah since 1993. She graduated from Mercer University with a B.S. in Biology and then from the Medical College of GA School of Dentistry. Dr. Smith moved to Savannah and joined Habersham Dental Center as Dr. Schmitz first associate 19 years ago. She is a Member of the American Dental Association and the Southeast District Dental Society . Dr. Smith enjoys taking continuing education classes and has studied under nationally known dental educators such as Dr. Gordon Christensen and Dr. Pete Dawson. She volunteers her dental services locally as well as on mission trips abroad. She and her husband, Alan, have been married 20 years and have four children. They are active members of Savannah Methodist Church. Her time off is filled mainly with taking care of her busy family. She also enjoys running, cooking, traveling, church activities, and attending her childrens many sportingevents.

Dr. Keenan Summerlin is a native of Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Benedictine Military School and Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a bachelors degree in Biology. Dr. Summerlin completed his training at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry earning an award in Prosthodontics. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in 2012 and practiced at the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan and Marine Corps Base Hawaii. During his tenure Dr. Summerlin earned multiple awards including the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He was selected for promotion to Lieutenant Commander prior to deciding to move home to Savannah. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association and the Savannah Dental Society. Dr. Summerlin and his wife Ellie, also a Savannah native, enjoy running, boating, traveling, cooking and spending time with family.

Dental hygienist about pulled crown off then got kinda nasty defensive saying floss should not do that, well she pulled hard enough to break the floss in two. Other visits have been great so not sure what hygienist problem was today! Very disappointed

Dr. Smith and his staff are the best folks in dentistry. Dr. Smith found a way to help me save several thousand dollars and get a better outcome than the more expensive one that I had recommended. As far as I am concerned Dr. Smith and his staff are the best Dentist in the Chatham area. I would give them ten stars if I could. Thank you Dr. Smith, Brook, and all of the folks at Family Dentistry.

I recently "found" Dr. Smith again after I initially met him at the Bosque Dental office. There he patiently and professionally treated a nagging tooth pain which eventually became an abscess with surgery and then an implant. His care was exceptional! After Dr. Bosque retired I did recall where Dr. Smith went to practice. However, one day I saw an article about him and his family and I found him again. Two weeks ago I went for hygiene appointment and then had my mouth appliance replaced. Wow! Everyone was superb! His office is now Islands Family Dental on Wilmington Island. A short drive from where I am, however, worth every mile! If you're looking for state of the art dentistry this is the place!

Staff and Doctor are friendly, accommodating and actually seem to care! It's so refreshing to find professionals in the medical/dental field that actually REMEMBER that their first priority is to care for the patient, not suggest procedures to fatten their bank accounts!!! I love that they are here on Wilmington. I'm looking forward having them take care of all my dental needs. Welcome!!

I was so happy to be able to see Dr Pate Smith the same day I called. As a new patient that rarely happens. Dr Smith is Professional, friendly and he listened to what I had been experiencing, having seen three dentist over the six months. He corrected my dental issue and gave me a back up plan, just in case I needed to return. Brandy, who takes care of the front office was great also. Very nice, and competent. I would recommend Island Dental to anyone looking for great dental care.

If you are searching for a dentist this is the one. My family is new here my son has been having issues with his teeth. We were given the run around by another dentist on the island and paid a lot of money out for literally nothing. I called this office short notice the day of they immediately made time for my son . They brought us in within an hour seen him within ten minutes of getting there pulled the problem gave him antibiotics and helped him so much. I am forever grateful for this office. They helped my son instead of hitting his insurance and costing us without results. Thankyou for all of your help . It was greatly appreciated.
