With over 16 years of experience, Dr. Nourhan Mekawy is a compassionate dentist serving patients at Island Smile Dental Group in Levittown, New York. Since establishing Island Smile Dental Group in 2011, Dr. Mekawy brings her expertise and commitment to patient-centered care to improve her patients oral health goals.
Dr. Mekawy earned her undergraduate degree at Alexandria University in Egypt. She completed an advanced dental residency program at New York University (NYU) in New York City, which focused on mouth rehabilitation, cosmetic, and implant dentistry, before finishing her dental degree from the NYU College of Dentistry.
Dr. Mekawys areas of interest include cosmetic and implant dentistry. Her advanced training includes a certification in implants through the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Mekawy is affiliated with the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy of Facial Esthetics. To better serve her patients, Dr. Mekawy is fluent in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
What I love about my profession is the opportunity to meet and work with patients of very diverse backgrounds. I have learned about different cultures, religions, and unique experiences from each and every one of my patients. The ability to learn from such a large group of people has shaped me into the person that I am today. I have in turn been able to transform their lives by creating beautiful smiles. I believe the self-confidence that patients gain as they smile paves the path for their future success.
Dr. Fooladi has attained recognition for her amazing trend-setting clinical and management methods at the annual American Association of Orthodontists meeting. A natural-born leader, she has had the privilege of lecturing other orthodontists on unique treatment methods for patients with large overjet or overbites.
Part of Dr. Fooladis success has been due to her tremendous passion to continuously learn. She attends annual meetings and continuing education courses taught by leaders in dentistry and orthodontics to constantly keep her education updated. It has been her goal to provide patients with the most cutting-edge technology. Through continuing education, she has been able to offer diversified options for a wide variety of orthodontic needs, minimizing treatment times and maximizing results.
In addition to creating beautiful smiles, one of Dr. Fooladis favorite things to do is to travel with her husband, Behrooz, her daughter, Sufi, and her son, Arya. They love sightseeing and exploring new cultures. Behrooz loves the outdoors and enjoys grilling, spending time at the beach, or just relaxing in the backyard! Behrooz has been a financial analyst for the past 11 years. Sufi is now twelve and Arya is eight. Sufi already wants to follow in mommys footsteps and is always volunteering to work as an assistant!
My dream is to help all that cannot help themselves, she states. She has made this dream come true via teaching and providing free orthodontic care for many underprivileged children in our community.'
Maria Cainto Del Castillo R.D.H. moved to the US in 2003. She was a licensed dentist in the Philippines. She was fascinated with the fact that everything starts in the mouth. Maria learned from dental school that the mouth is the dirtiest part of the body. Thus saying so, if you maintain a healthy oral environment, overall wellbeing follows. To complete her dream of becoming a US-licensed dental hygienist, she pursued this degree in a reputable school, New York University where she was given the Colgates STAR (Student Total Achievement Recognition) award.
Seeing patients smile has been the fuel that ignited her passion. She has been blessed for a year and counting to be in a place where you see a great deal of transformation, not only in patients smiles but in entirety. Ms. Del Castillo is still fulfilling her ultimate goal of changing lives by educating about the importance of oral health and encourages clients to undergo treatments as necessary.
Furthermore, Island Smile Dental Group, has allowed her to grow as a person. Making her realize that it does not matter how slowly you move towards your goal as long as you do not stop. She is fortunate to have followed her chosen path for the most of her life and the best part is, its very interesting and relevant for people in different walks of life. Ultimately, she is not only a mother trying to better her childs life, but also a person with passion to become the very best. In becoming a dental hygienist at Island Smile Dental Group, she does not only share her skills and what she knows, but she may change lives one tooth at a time.

Dr. Mekawy is one of the most amazing dentists by far. She is extremely gentle when doing any procedure and always make me feel at ease. She always accomidates my request for an appointment, readily available in case of emergency, and works with the kindest team of people. They always make me laugh and provide such a positive environment when dealing with them. Dr. Mekawy recently started to do medispa treatments at her practice and recommended I try a new treatment she was offering to help with my skin texture and apprearance, called Scarlett SRF. I have never done microneedling and have always wanted to try. She thoroughly explained how it would help tighten my skin and stimulate collagen production. I did one of the sessions today, and I have to admit, it was better than I expected. She used cream to make my skin super numb not to feel any pain and the entire process was less than one hour. My skin felt refreshed and tighter instantly. The real results start to show in a few weeks and I am exicted to see the progress . Her prices are super competative for this procedure along with her facial services. I very much recommend to try this procedue before she starts to get booked up! It was worth it 1000%

My tooth chipped, and I was able to get an appointment the next morning, they fixed my tooth that day, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. They are very kind professional and helpful! I recommend if you need a dentist this is the place to go, this will be my go to dentist from now on. My husband is going to be a patient there as well! Thank you so much Island Dental Group ! We have all been to a dentist. This is the first dental office where everyone is kind, friendly, professional, and comforting. George, Jan, and the doctor are amazing!! Dr. Mekawy is so gentle, sweet, and reassuring. If you need a dentist this is the place to go. Thank you very much for everything.

I had a great experience here. All the staff are great! Dental hygenist is gentle, thorough and educates you on all levels of dental care and treatment. I appreciated Dr. Mekawy's patience in answering all my questions. They also offer orthodontics treatment in same office. Highly recommend them.
