Island Dental - General dentist in Solomons, MD

Originally from Florida, a happily married mother of 4, with an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in Biology; and a Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2000. She started in dentistry as a dental assistant and worked for 12 years in that field both in private practice and the Air Force prior to deciding to obtain a degree in dentistry. The military brought her to Maryland. She has been in the area for 19 years and has been fortunate to have sustained continued growth during that time. 'I really enjoy what I do and I like to think that that is evident in my work and to my patients.' When not doing dentistry, she enjoys traveling and time with my family.

Cindy received her Dental Hygiene degree from the University of Vermont in 1979. She gained 15 years of periodontal experience while working with a specialist in Connecticut before relocating to Southern Maryland and general dentistry twelve years ago. Cindy believes in treating the whole patient and therefore tries to work with each, individually, keeping their particular needs in mind. She is married to the love of her life Michael. They enjoy boating and quality time together. Cindy is also an avid reader and loves to cook. A piece of her heart is in Guatemala where she goes on a medical/dental mission trip every year to work with the Mayan people in the mountains north of Guatemala City. She has established a Fluoride for the Children program that touches the lives of 10,000 children annually. The program has been up and running for eleven years now and the improved health of the childrens teeth are a reflection of the great strides it is making.

Passionate about patient care, Marilyn believes it is paramount to educate her patients about their oral health as it connects to their whole body health. Starting as a dental assistant in the mid 1980's, she began to appreciate her roll as an advocate for change. After several years of assisting, Marilyn stayed home to raise her eleven children. When her youngest was in school all day, Marilyn started classes to enter the dental hygiene program. She graduated from Howard University College of Dentistry in 2010. After practicing a couple of years, she continued her education and graduated from Old Dominion University in 2014 with a B.S. in Dental Hygiene and a minor in public health.

As an entrepreneur, Marilyn also owns her own catering company. As a native of Washington D.C., she extends her care by feeding those in need at several homeless and battered women shelters in the Washington D.C. area. She enjoys family, her grandchildren, mission work, and good eating! She has visited the Dominican Republic a few times and provided fluoride supplements at the orphanages. She is excited to continue her care for people as a part of the Island Dental Team.

I have truly loved and appreciated the tender care and extra amenities we offer to all of our patients! Im passionate about being a patient advocate. Theres nothing like the satisfied look on a patients face when theyve navigated the sometimes confusing world of insurance/financing and the unknown of treatment to come out the other end with an even bigger better smile. I answer questions and help make treatment possible. One of my favorite quotes I have learned here is the smallest distance between two people is a smile.

Another passion of mine is my family! I cannot spend enough time with my husband Mark, two daughters Kailey and Kassidy, and our dogs. Whether traveling or playing around the house they make my heart smile!

With 20+ years of experience in the dental field, Jessie joined Island Dental Care in November 2018. Jessie may be new to the Island Dental Care team, but is not new to working with Dr. Sharon Gaylord. They have worked together since February 2014 at another location. Jessie started in oral surgery in 1999 with extractions, bone grafts, sinus lifts, and placement of dental implants. Over the last 20 years Jessie has continued to build upon her dental education by taking continuing education courses, attending dental seminars, and participating in community service dental health events. After years of assisting on the surgical side of dentistry both in Oral Surgery and in Periodontics, Jessie has joined us here at Island Dental in the hopes of expanding her education in general dentistry. Jessie 's belief that having been there for patients who 've reached their last stop on the 'dental train' at the oral surgery chair has given her the skills to be understanding of patients needs, compassionate, and the ability to relate to patients no matter their circumstance in life; should prove to be beneficial to us here at Island Dental Care.

Jessie resides in Southern Maryland and is a proud mother to 3 children Jacob, Julianna, and Jackson. Jessie also has 3 fur babies Oakley, Sophie Grace, and Jimmy. Jessie loves reading, family game & movie nights, food, traveling, and shopping.

Juvederm is a smooth, crystal-clear gel that is made from hyaluronic acid, which is derived from natural sugars found in our own bodies. It is used as a 'filler' to help volume to cheeks and to aid in plumping the lips or giving them the overall appearance of fullness. Juvederm is also used to smooth, soften, and correct moderate to severe parentheses lines by adding subtle volume around the nose and mouth.

Within the first 24 hours we ask that you minimize exposure to sun, heat, alcoholic beverages, and strenuous exercise. If exposed you may have temporary redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site. If swelling occurs after treatment, an ice pack should be applied over the swollen area. I had a hard time finding a good dentist in the Solomons area until I found Island Dental. Initially I found them when searching for help with TMJ issues caused by incompetent dental practices at my previous dental provider. The help and care they gave me went above and beyond. I didn't hesitate to move to them for my primary dental provider. Dr. Gaylord is simply amazing, and absolutely knows her stuff. I also have some fear/anxiety behind dentistry work which she and her assistants were amazing at handling without making me feel like a silly child. Highly recommend this practice! I also felt super safe visiting during this pandemic.
