Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. Gum disease has two primary stages. If diagnosed and treated in the first stage, the condition can be reversed and tooth loss can usually be prevented. In order to prevent gum disease, practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist for cleanings and check-ups twice a year.

This stage only affects the soft tissue of the gums, and the patient may not experience any discomfort. Although the symptoms may be very mild, it is important to diagnose gum disease in this early stage before it progresses to periodontitis.

Periodontitis is the name for more advanced periodontal disease and if permitted to progress to this point, not only the gums are affected but the bone structures supporting the teeth will be compromised.

A build-up of bacteria causes Gingivitis. In its early stages, inflammation around the gums is observable, with gum tissues appearing red and swollen. Gums that are easily irritated or that bleed during tooth brushing indicate the presence of Gingivitis. Removal of the plaque buildup is necessary to prevent the development of gum disease.

As the gums become more inflamed, they start to pull away from the teeth, forming spaces known as periodontal pockets. Food, bacteria, and plaque begin to collect in the pockets, leading to infection. The surrounding bone becomes damaged both by bacterial toxins and by the immune systemsresponse to infection.

After 5 years of looking for help both in NH and in Massachusetts I finally found someone who not only knows their profession but seems exceedingly good at it. She is caring and amazingly gentle with my sensitive condition, as well as extremely knowledgeable. I can't thank her enough.

I have been a patient of Dr. Adler's dental practice for a while. I consider Dr. Adler and her entire dental team to be technically superb! I had found in Dr. Adler's practice both : the high clinical skills and sensitivity to patient needs. The Manchester dental surgery team is well-versed in all the appropriate safety protocols regarding masks, shields, gloves, wiping down surfaces, etc. In addition, they've paid careful attention to the sequence of patients arriving and departing to avoid close contact. I have felt very safe and well cared. I would highly recommend Dr Adler to anyone, because in my opinion she is the BEST periodontist, very experienced , professional and what is the most important - she's so kind and attentive to all of her patients!

She is gentle and I never felt more at ease then when she removed my teeth. Her assistant was professional and made me feel at ease. I would highly recommend Dr. Adler and her team of professionals.

The whole procedure was so painless, Dr took her time , she didn't rush at all, gave me breaks in between to rest my jaw . Jessica , the assistant she was also wonderful , she was right there helping me feel safe , dream team ! If you are looking for a doctor and amazing staff , look no further !

I came to see Dr.Adler for a second opinion regarding gum surgery which was recommended to me. Dr.Adler and her staff were wonderful and easy to relate to. She checked my teeth and and my entire mouth, not just my gums, answered all my questions in great detail and recommended a non surgical solution. I was very happy. Now, Dr. Adler is my periodontist and I drive 35 minutes to her office from MA for my check ups and hygiene appointments 2-3 times a year. I highly recommend Dr. Adler to everyone.
