Dr. Dennis Winter is committed to providing excellence in dentistry, and stands out as a leading dentist in Des Moines. He believes strongly in education to prevent oral health problems before they occur, and continually attends educational courses to learn about the latest technology and ways to make his patients dental visits as comfortable as possible.

Dr. Dennis Winter is a native of Iowa, growing up in a small town northeast of Sumner. He received his undergrad from Iowa State University in 1979, and then attended the University of Iowa school of dentistry where he was president of his class. After graduation. While studying the science of occlusion and conditions such as grinding, clenching, and TMJ in Florida, he met his wife, Dr. Carnovale, whom is also a dentist and was practicing in Rome, Italy at the time.

Dr. Carnovale still operates her dental office in Rome, Italy with several English speaking associates. Dr. Carnovale was born and raised in Rome's Centro Storico (near the Vatican and Pantheon) and enjoys frequent visits to see family and friends.

One of the dentists went on at length defending use of mercury for fillings, because, after all, the American Dental Association has been around forever, thus is trustworthy, and the ADA says they're safe. All the while he tried convincing me of this, his eyes focused somewhere up toward the corner of the room. He knows just how dangerous they are and that's why he couldn't look me in the eye. By now, every dentist in every industrialized nation, including those living in caves and under rocks, all of them well KNOW that mercury fillings can and eventually will cause severe detriment to people's health and eventually ruin teeth to which they're applied, all common knowledge among so called professionals since the early to mid 1900's. Any dentist who defends their continued use clearly does not maintain patient's best interests as priority. It's crucial that patients be informed as to the widely various damages that eventually come about throughout body and mind caused by mercury amalgams. Any dentist who does not inform those who already have such fillings sees patients strictly as sources for income rather than human beings whose suffering may be prevented or halted. As mercury accumulates in various places throughout the body and brain, it also causes cracks in teeth they're supposed to protect. At that point unscrupulous dentists (which is most) insist a crown is necessary, for which, of course, he makes money. But the mercury is still there thus damage continues, festers, and surrounding teeth are affected. Along the way comes root canal work and more and more money. Then one, two, and more and more teeth need pulled until all are gone, then come dentures, and fittings, and more fittings, and on and on, money, money, lots more money, for the dentist. Never mind that many of us didn't need the fillings to begin with. They were put in because it was easy money for dentists looking to gain immediate and long term income. I went to this dental clinic twice and was seen by two different dentists. Just like the one, two, and ten I saw before them, they totally failed to tell me that each of the several mercury filled teeth in my mouth has cracked. I went there because two of them are broken. A third tooth that broke has had root canal work done by yet another dentist who didn't bother to explain what was happening. By the way, all root canaled teeth eventually cause infection that also spreads and deposits throughout the body. Rather than informing me as to what was happening and why and all of which had to be obvious to the dentists, rather than trying to help me prevent further deterioration in my health, much of which I explained, each of the two dentists worked hard at pushing various services simply because "insurance covers" them. For example, I was told my bridgework should be replaced, "because insurance covers it". I refused, but would've consented had he told me that the metals in the bridgework are also poisonous, and situated in such close proximity to mercury means there's a constant loop of negative ions being produced thus amplifying poisonous affects. He didn't bother telling me of this or that its whats was causing the inside of my mouth to turn black. When I refused to let them proceed with any work, the other dentist there insisted I at least have my teeth cleaned "because insurance covers it", and so the appointment, which lasted 15 or so minutes up to that point, "so it won't be a total loss", meaning of income for him. Money, money, more money. It's all about the money. Patients health is not of issue to these dentists. It bears adding that at least one website lists one of the dentists here as being holistic. They are not holistic, not even close. In fact I wound up traveling great distance and going to a truly holistic dentist and paying out of pocket for an evaluation that lasted about 4 hrs (time spent strictly with me) and which, when put in writing, as he did, was 17 pages, and well worth it For your own sake, find a better dentist.

I am not happy because I've been coming here a little over a year. At first it was a great experience. Last time I was in, i was pregnant, told them i was pregnant, they began cleaning my teeth and then Stopped a few minutes in and told me to come back after i had my baby. Now they are telling me they dont accept my insurance, even though it says they do on their website. They are just turning me away at this point. I specifically remember them saying they wont take new patients with that insurance but would continue to see current ones. And it even says so right on the website. This is frustrating.

Never made it there. I tried to call twice to make an appointment, no one answered. Oddly, the answering machine says it's Thursday, June 28th and they are closed for the evening- and here i was damn sure it was 10AM in early November?

I was referred to them through a holistic organization that has this practice listed as practicing holistic medicine. The next closest practice that also practices holistic medicine is in Iowa City. I had stated holistic medicine was important to me, we scheduled an appointment all looked good. I get a call back five minutes later my appointment was cancelled, my insurance isn't good enough, they aren't accepting new patients and they tell me to go somewhere that uses flouride and doesn't practice holistic medicine at all. I am informed the suggestion is what I am looking for. If you are looking for a dental office that isn't judgemental please keep looking. If you are looking to go to holistic dentist they are in Iowa City. Medicine is about healing not insurance.
