Dr. Dan Allen is an orthodontist with over a decade of orthodontic experience. He attended Ogden High where he plated tennis and was on the debate team. After serving a church mission in Portugal and a earning a bachelors degree at Weber Sate University, Dr. Allen attend what is often considered one of the best dental schools in the country - the University of Washington. After graduating dental school in 2000 Dr. Allen attend the University of Chicago for an additional three years of specialized orthodontic training where he graduated in 2003.
Prior to Intermountain Dental Specialists Dr. Allen practiced in Idaho before starting his own practice in El Paso, TX. In Texas Dr. Allen was recognized as 'Best of The Border' in Orthodontics - an award voted on by patients and other dental providers. In 2019, Dr. Allen decided it was time to sell Allen Orthodontics (the name of his Texas practice) and move home with his family.
Dr. Jeffrey Johnson is a licensed Specialist in Orthodontics with post-graduate training in Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD). He received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Utah State University, Logan, Utah in 1989, and obtained his doctoral training from Creighton University School of Dentistry, Omaha, Nebraska in 1993 graduating 4th in his class.
In 2001, Dr. Johnson pursued additional education in functional occlusion and jaw joint dysfunction attending the renowned Roth Williams Center for Functional Occlusion and Advanced Education in Orthodontics, Burlingame, California. In 2010, he furthered his studies in TMD and Craniofacial Pain in a Mini-Residency Program at the University of Kentucky, College of Dentistry in Lexington, Kentucky.
John M. Coats is a specialists in endodontics. He was raised in Bloomfield Hill, Michigan. His father was an oral health care professional who passed his love for helping others on to him.He received his Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University and obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Dr. Coats then completed his post-doctorate education at University of Detroit, Mercy in their renowned Endodontics program.
Dr. Coats founded Rocky Mountain Endodontics in Salt Lake City, Utah where he served as President until 2016. Also founder of the Dental Cooperative in Utah, whose purpose was to further independent dentistry. He is a member of the American Association of Endodontics and the Utah Endodontic Association.Dr. Coats was the first Endodontist in Utah to incorporate lasers into the field of Endodontics, and he continues the use of Fotona Ultra Performance Lasers in Endodontics as well as other aspects of dentistry.
Rocky Mountain Endodontics was sold in 2016 and Dr. Coats ventured onto practicing in Tucson, Arizona and Santa Barbara, California. Ultimately Utah was his home and he has returned with the love of his life, Susie.
Dr. Neal Esplin is a specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. He received his Bachelors of Arts in Spanish from Brigham Young University and completed Dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia.

Let me start off by saying Dr. Allen and his team are exceptional and always have good energy at the office. I've had braces for nearly 2 years and I've always had good experiences at my appointments. I am obsessed with the results achieved and always look at my teeth in the mirror! My teeth look amazing! I catch myself having conversations with the mirror just to see my teeth :D As far as the office in general I've never had any issues. The whole staff is always friendly and willing to help. I've had to reschedule on numerous occasions and they are always great with working with my schedule. Any issues I've had always came from insurance, and they always helped me with those issues. So if you are concerned or have questions regarding insurance (since insurance always has loop holes and lingo to confuse people) they are awesome and super helpful and knowledgeable 10/10! Even checking in is a good experience, so go ahead and stop in and ask for Dr. Allen

There staff and Dr treat me like I was garbage. They was too pushy. I felt that they guess wanted money from me and not what is best for me. I will not be going back there again.

I honestly hate rating them a two Only because the customer is great. However the over all work done was horrible. At first i thought it was just me and i feel bad i recommend so many friends and my friends children there! They left a gap and when i talked to my dentist about it he said it was to small to worry about to use my retainer and it would go away .. Which it has not i paid a lot of money for them to half way do the work needed i only know this because i have to pay another orthodontist to finish the job i paid this denistry almost four thousand to do!!! I wish i would have searched around more do not be sucked in by customer service alone!!

This was my first time at Intermountain dental specialists. They were kind helpful and explained things very well. Stephanie was very nicwe and explain how things worked and what would be the best thing to do for my x rays to make sure the Dr could get the best look at my teeth to be able to help me out best. Dr Cook was very nice, he answered all my questions and explained to me what he would do and what he could do in my situation to give me the best results. He also gave me a few options when it came time to get my tooth worked on. I would definitely recommend this place.

I was very impressed with Intermountain Dental Specialists, the staff and Dr. Coats whom made the entire experience very comfortable. Easy to complete all forms online prior to the appointment. Treatment options and recommended treatment plan upfront and honest, particularly financial options. If you need a dental specialist this is most definitely where you need to go!

Horrible experience. They waited until I got there to tell me my insurance wasn't cover my procedure which was frustrating but I still was going to get it done. I got back and they don't have my X-rays (which I was told they could email them over and even called an hour before my appointment to see if they had them to which side was told they did.) well they didn't get them and blamed it on me for not getting them. The lady had an attitude and said "they have been sitting there for 2 weeks for you to pick up". One I was seen barely a week ago and if I didn't have people telling me that they will be emailed so would if picked them up considering the dentist is literally 1 minute from my house. Save you time and money and go somewhere else.

Honestly, days like my experience here are why I hate dentists. The whole morning seemed like I was just shifted from room to room. Once they started the root canal, the doctor didn't use any numbing gel on the roof of my mouth before sticking the needle in to numb it. Then every time they went to take an X-ray they hit me in the head with the X-ray machine. When I was done, they didn't offer anything to help with pain once the numbing wore off. I followed their post-op instructions and called the office around 4:50 pm to ask about something for the throbbing pain. Since the dentist was gone, I was told to call the after hours number. I called it just after 5 pm and also texted the number since the post-op instructions said texts were fine. No response. At all. I'm not sure what the purpose of the after hours number is if you don't get a response. Now I have to wait until morning to contact my regular dentist to see if they can help with the pain. Since it's after 11 pm and I can't sleep due to the pain from todays events, I decided to fill out the review they sent me a text message asking me to leave. I hope this helps someone else when choosing who to go to. I definitely won't be back to this office.
