As my patient, you are not just another set of teeth; you are another conversation, another story, another friendship. By knowing who you are, I can know what your teeth mean to you, and this is where dentistry begins.

Dr. Birrer was born and raised in Southern California. He took after his father, a jack-of-all-trades, fixing things around the house and working on cars and other crafts. In doing so, he discovered the joys of hard work with his hands, which initially led him to dentistry. When not restoring smiles, Dr. Birrer enjoys watching independent films and exploring local cuisine with his wife, Katherine.

Dr. Marder has been working in biomedical dentistry for over 30 years. His philosophy is that each person who entrusts their care to deserves his best. I hope to treat each individual with compassion and love, taking into account their general health interplay, their personal bio-compatibility, and their desires and values. In every way I can, I hope to identify a cause before treating a symptom. In this way, I hope to touch each person in a meaningful way.

Dr. Marder is a member of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, Environmental Dental Association, Holistic Dental Association, American Orthodontic Society, American Academy for Functional Orthodontics, and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. His special interests are in Craniofacial Development (assisting the growing skull and cranium), Treating Sleep Disorders being aware of the airway (apnea, snoring), Facial Pain treating TMJ and headache issues, Dental Implants (introducing non-metal implants), and holistic care.

On September 14th, Mitch and Carla welcomed their first grandchild to the family! Dr. Marder is currently providing dental care on a limited basis with a highly variable work schedule. Please call for details.

Dr. Rubin is one of this areas pioneers in mercury safe dentistry, abandoning the use of mercury amalgam (silver) dental fillings in 1980. One of the early members of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), he has served in various offices and on its Board of Directors for several years, helping to see it grow into one of the worlds leading authoritative bodies in the area of mercury and other toxins in dentistry. Dr. Rubin was honored as a Fellow of the IAOMT in 1992, and a Master of the IAOMT in 2007. Dr. Rubin is also a charter member of the International Association of Mercury Free Dentists. In 2009, Dr. Rubin co-founded New Directions Dentistry, a company dedicated to teaching dentists nationwide how to practice mercury safe dentistry.

With a special interest in the environmental effects of dental amalgam mercury, Dr. Rubin has lectured across the country and published research on this subject. His was the first office in Washington State (and one of the first in the country) to install a mercury capturing system to prevent waste amalgam-mercury from leaving the dental office waste stream, over a fifteen ago. As of July of 2003, all King County dental offices are now required to have such equipment. In 1997, Dr. Rubin was honored as Runner-Up for the Governors Award for Pollution Prevention, and won the Puget Sound Waste Information Networks Award for Environmental Achievement. He was the first, and one of the few dental offices to receive Envirostars highest 5-star rating. Dr. Rubin has appeared and testified before informational hearings by King County Board of Health and the Washington State Senate Committee on Health and Long Term Care.

After 46 years of service and advocacy in biological dentistry, Dr. Rubin hangs up his handpiece and loupes to focus on dental education, magic, lucid dreaming, and being a grandfather. Were proud to announce Dr. Rubins retirement and will closely follow his ongoing efforts in educating the next generation of naturopathic doctors!

Hi Im Emily! I grew up in Oregon, and received my Bachelors Degree in Biology at the University of Oregon. I moved to Washington in 2007 and attended Shoreline Community College to receive my Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. I went into dental hygiene because I, myself, have dental anxiety. I want to help others overcome this common phobia and have a comfortable and fearless experience. I am passionate about treating the body as a whole, educating you and working with you to reach your goals. Together we can achieve greatness! In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband and two sons. We can often be found skiing down the slopes or reeling in our catch of the day on the beautiful Puget Sound!

Hi Im Lydia! Im from Bellingham and received my Dental Hygiene certification at Bellingham Technical College. I moved to the area in March 2020 and have been enjoying exploring the local beaches, lakes, and mountains.

Integrative Dentistry - General dentist in Seattle, WA

I moved here from Bellingham to attend Shoreline Community Colleges Dental Hygiene program. I decided to stay after graduation because of my new found love for the community in my area. I have a son whom I enjoy taking out on adventures such as hiking, snowboarding, camping, biking, and road trips to neighboring states. My lifes motto is, Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail (Emerson).

As your hygienist, I strive to make you feel at ease with maximum comfort in each experience with me, and work with you to create an individualized plan towards wellness. My hope is that you leave the office feeling well taken care of and excited to have gained a new skill or piece of information to help continue the journey towards a healthy state of being!

Consistent with the holistic care and biologic safety of our treatments, at Integrative Dentistry, we advocate for our environment by working in a setting designed to respect and conserve our earths natural resources. Our office was designed to represent an eco-friendly environment consistent with our healthy approach! This means our leading Holistic Dentist in Seattle also takes seriously the biological/environmental safety of every treatment, every material, the daily practices, as well as the office itself.

Newly remodeled, our ultra-modern facility is located in the Northgate area of Seattle. Many materials used in construction were influenced by the LEED certification system and Environmental Home Store in Seattle (now closed) to foster a green environment and provide chemically/environmentally-sensitive patients a reaction-free experience. We have been told by many chronic fatigue and chemically sensitive (MCS) patients that the place smells clean and they experience no reactions when coming to our office. We ask that all who enter our office refrain from wearing any fragrances out of respect for those more sensitive people.

A tremendous amount of thought went into the details of our office to inspire a healthful and harmonious patient environment. Elements such as soothing live plants, full spectrum lighting, low VOC paints, eco-friendly bamboo flooring, non-outgassing linseed coatings, and top-of-the-line air and water filtration systems, add an ambiance of refreshment and relaxation to the healthful space we have created for you, our patients. Materials used to support our environmental build out include but are not limited to:

The treatments, materials, and technologies used in our build-out were hand-selected to fulfill our desire to give you the safest, environmentally friendly, highest quality, best bio-compatible dental care available. We are also proud to feature the following cutting edge technologies:

  • Picasso Soft-tissue Laser Therapy- This laser works by delivering energy in the form of light and heat. In dental procedures, it acts as a cutting instrument and vaporizer. The Picasso laser minimizes bleeding during treatment by aiding in the coagulation of exposed blood vessels. In addition, dental procedures such as gum contouring, periodontal cleaning, and cold sore (herpes) treatment become quite comfortable for our patients.
  • TekScan and BioPak TMJ Equipment- These cutting-edge technologies allow us to evaluate and adjust your TMJ and craniofacial muscles at a comprehensive level. By using this equipment to take scientific recordings of your TMJ bite, head, and neck, we can effectively diagnose and treat headaches, muscle fatigue, and other symptoms caused by TMJ and craniofacial imbalances.
  • Ozone Water and Ozone Gas- Ozone is a great adjunct to several treatments. It is highly powerful in killing germs. It can be delivered in trays or as a gas to treat tooth decay, prevent periodontal infection, in root canal treatment, head/neck/sinus stuffiness or infection, and more. The use of medical ozone is popular world-wide and has many applications for treatment.
  • Infrared Laser- All light has an effect on the cells of the human body, determined by the wavelengths of the light applied. Our infrared laser produces a beam of light with a specific wavelength and frequency. When the light is applied around body tissue, electromagnetic energy is converted to chemical energy within each cell. This sets in motion a chain of chemical reactions that encourage the natural healing of muscles to begin. The infrared laser is used on sore muscles, sensitive teeth, and sensitive gums.
  • Digital X-Rays- Digital x-rays use a sensor in place of film. That sensor is connected to a computer, making the image immediately visible on the screen. Because the sensor is so sensitive, a minimal amount of radiation is needed to see the picture, meaning less radiation exposure to you. Also, no dangerous chemicals are needed to develop digital x-rays, making them more biologically and environmentally friendly.
  • 3-D Galileos Cone Beam X-Ray unit Allows us to image the whole skull and assess airway, sinus, nose, teeth, and jaws in three dimensions. The medical profession is moving from two dimensional x-rays to three dimensional imaging, making medical imaging much more accurate. We are proud to be on this cutting edge.
  • Intra-Oral Cameras- Intra-oral cameras are a tool we use to record videos and take still snapshots of your mouth. This provides us with a way to visually communicate your oral condition to you. We know it is much easier to understand what is happening with your health if you can see the problem for yourself, firsthand.
  • Amazing. Thorough. Did tests and mentioned issues that my other dentists didnt even know about. All dentists should be like Integrative Dentistry. If you're not going here, you're not getting the best care.

Very accommodating & kind. I really appreciated that the dentist was willing to take the time to make sure all my questions were satisfied even though they were late getting out because of me. The receptionist even helped me find an organic restaurant in the area. Good people work here

Watched Root Cause on Netflix and realized I needed to see a holistic dentist. They found everything in that documentary that a regular dentist would not find, including hidden infections. I feel confident that I am in good hands. They are on the same page as me about whole body health.

Dental procedure and dentist were great. After care was not the best, my temporary cap came unglued, I called and they return my call for days later. I appreciate them submitting claims to my insurance, but the insurance had to request chart notes, because they were not submitted along with the claim which delayed payment( I would expect them to know those details about insurance claims).

Wow! I can't say enough about Jen (amazing doc assistant extraordinaire!) and Dr. Birrer. I didn't want to have to find a new office but due to my beloved dentist retiring, I had to and I was beyond pleasantly surprised! If you are looking for an office that gets how important your dental health is for overall health---look no further. Also, they make you feel so welcomed and at ease (said by a patient with high dental anxiety!)

I originally gave ID a great review. I really enjoyed their services at first. Especially the dentist they first had me working with. It all changed for me when I told them I was going to get a second opinion (I'm glad I got the second opinion). Part of that was asking the front desk to send my full records to the other dentist. It took a long time, and too much calling and emailing on my end, to actually get this done. The other dentist kept having to tell me "they haven't sent the information yet," it was kind of embarrassing, because I expected more out of this office. Then it just kept going downhill from there but I'll keep this short. The current issue I have with them is that they put in a double crown that they promised me they would work with me on fixing the pain I was having after they put this in. They first asked me to give it a couple months. I did. Then they asked me to give it a little more time. They had me come into the office at least once to try and fix the bite, to see if that was the issue, but it only got slightly better. The dentist told me he would take it off if the pressure/pain didn't go away after a month. It didn't so I emailed him back and he just never responded. I was extremely patient with them, too much so. I have learned from this experience to be really straightforward, at all times, with what my expectations are of any business I work with. My next step is going to explore this issue with a naturopath (through muscle testing) then I'll possibly need to find another dentist to fix it. If I incur cost I will be exploring small claims court to get reimbursed. I would be cautious about using this office! They make promises in person but make sure you get those promises in writing, if you are currently working with them or decide to try them out in the future. I will add more to this post if I have updates.

Dr. Birrer is great. My visit was focused on consulting. Coming up with a comprehensive treatment plan, including a thorough explanation of my various options and materials that would be used. He took the time needed to sit and explain things to me with regards to my many questions. He was also straightforward and honest with me about the pros and cons of my various options. I plan to return for further care.

Sadly I have very mixed feelings about this practice. The good...Dr. Birrer is amazing, truly caring and interested in his patients. He takes the time to instruct patients in care of their teeth. Can't say enough good things about him. The bad...Dr Birrer was gone and there was a substitute dentist. She was the exact antithesis of Dr. Birrer. Horrible experience. She is no longer with the practice so as a new patient you should not be concerned. The problem is that I called to talk with the practice manager. 3 calls and 3 weeks to respond. I have to say he did call me once but I missed the call. I called right back but never heard from him. I called Dr. Birrer and he responded. But things got confused from our cal. And I still don't know why my calls were not returned by the practice manager. And that bothers me. I don't want to have to call the dentist every time for concerns that really belong with the practice manager, but I also want a response.

The entire team at Integrative Dentistry has provided me with excellent, holistic care over many years. Yesterday I accidentally arrived a day early for my scheduled, semi-annual cleaning and they kindly fit me into their work schedule without really having to wait any extra time. Thank you so much for all you do. Yesterday I had my six month cleaning and checkup with Emily and Dr. Birrer and received excellent care-very thorough, gentle, kind and I received some helpful tips for self care. Thank you.
