For over two decades, Dr. Derrick Johnson has served his patients with a passion for the art and science of dentistry and the life changing results it can produce. Early in his career, he saw an unmet need. He found there were many people with more advanced or complex dental problems who had difficulty finding the specific type of help they required. Seeing that, he dedicated a significant part of his practice and training towards helping people solve more advanced dental problems.

He has trained with some of the best minds in dentistry to expand his knowledge and develop the skills in delivering predictable, comprehensive dentistry. Dr. Johnson remains at the forefront of innovations in dentistry, bringing his proven tools and evidence-based treatments. At Integrated Dentistry, he serves adults of all ages with a wide range of dental and oral health concerns with a specific focus on implant dentistry, cosmetics, and solving more advanced dental problems.

Initially practicing in Arizona, he served the communities of Scottsdale and Paradise Valley for over 14 years. Dr. Johnson enjoyed his work and his patients, and his passion for dentistry further increased with time, but he missed the relaxed intimacy of a smaller city and easy access to lakes, rivers and nature. The beauty of Arkansas drew him here and he built a successful dental practice in Mountain Home. In 2017, he opened the location in Bentonville, which is now the primary location of Integrated Dentistry.

When he is not restoring smiles, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, exploring the Ozarks, fitness, golf, archery, and tennis. The doctor is the proud father of two daughters who graduated from Arizona State University.

You may be wondering what it is like getting started at our office. If your mouth is basically healthy and you are unaware of any problems, your first visit will be with our hygienist. Your teeth will be examined and cleaned, and youll have an opportunity to meet the doctors. We can answer any questions you might have about your teeth and help you stay on track in maintaining your oral health.

If you have more specific dental concerns or problems, your first visit is a relaxed, informal conversation with us where you can ask questions and we can get to know you and your unique needs. From there, a comprehensive exam is scheduled where we will diagnose whats happening and consider all the factors that may be contributing to your dental problems. Too often, we see patient who have had a pattern of dental problems patched here and there, but no one has ever addressed the underlying cause of their recurrent dental issues. We find that our patients really appreciate our thorough approach because it allows us to predictably correct problems with lasting results, and prevent future problems as well.

When you come in for your initial visit please be sure to bring your dental insurance card and arrive early to fill out your initial paperwork if you have not already done so. We look forward to meeting you!

Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. Gum disease has two primary stages. If diagnosed and treated in the first stage, the condition can be reversed and tooth loss can usually be prevented. In order to prevent gum disease, practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist for cleanings and check-ups twice a year.

This stage only affects the soft tissue of the gums, and the patient may not experience any discomfort. Although the symptoms may be very mild, it is important to diagnose gum disease in this early stage before it progresses to periodontitis.

Periodontitis is the name for more advanced periodontal disease and if permitted to progress to this point, not only the gums are affected but the bone structures supporting the teeth will be compromised.

A build-up of bacteria causes Gingivitis. In its early stages, inflammation around the gums is observable, with gum tissues appearing red and swollen. Gums that are easily irritated or that bleed during tooth brushing indicate the presence of Gingivitis. Removal of the plaque buildup is necessary to prevent the development of gum disease.

As the gums become more inflamed, they start to pull away from the teeth, forming spaces known as periodontal pockets. Food, bacteria, and plaque begin to collect in the pockets, leading to infection. The surrounding bone becomes damaged both by bacterial toxins and by the immune systemsresponse to infection.
