Dr. Housewright received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at The University of Colorado School of Dentistry, graduating as Valedictorian and President of his class. He then attended three years of post-doctoral training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the University of Kentucky Orthodontic Residency Program. He earned his Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and a Master of Science (MS) degree while conducting research among Kentucky and Colorado orthodontic and pediatric dental populations.

In general, Full Orthodontic Treatment is appropriate for adolescents and adults. This doesnt always mean that all baby teeth have fallen out, though! Often, an over-retained baby tooth is a sign of another issue such as an impacted or missing adult tooth.

Full Orthodontic Treatment is typically carried out with braces or clear aligners. At Inspire Orthodontics, Dr. Housewright chooses to use only the highest quality brands for his patientsincluding Damon System Braces, and Invisalign and Spark Clear Aligner systems (invisible braces).

Clear aligners offer a discreet and comfortable approach to teeth straightening, helping you achieve your inspiring, healthy smile without braces. Removable to eat and drink normally? Check! Removable to brush and floss, normally? Check! They are barely noticeable when smiling and talking, and practically disappear in photos.

Clear aligners are made after taking a 3D digital scan of your teeth and bite. Dr. Housewright uses the digital model of your teeth imported into state-of-the-art software to move each tooth individually into the best position and best bite. Nearly-invisible bio-compatible plastic aligners are then manufactured from the completed digital rendering. The aligners apply carefully controlled forces to gradually shift your teeth into optimal position.

Orthodontic treatment has advanced far beyond the technology of 'traditional braces', much of which was developed in the 80's & 90's and is still widely in use today. Damon System Braces started the revolution in self-ligating braces and continues to remain at the forefront of this paradigm shift in orthodontic treatment. That's why we're proud to offer two exciting, effective alternatives to traditional braces: Damon Q & Damon Clear braces. Damon Q and Clear braces use 'passive self-ligating' technology to reduce treatment times, improve comfort, and reduce the need for extractions, expanders, and jaw surgery, all while providing you with the amazing, unique smile you'll be proud to show off.

'As a patient of both traditional and Damon brackets, I have noticed a very large amount of change in comfort, with Damon being more comfortable than the traditional. Damon brackets are less sharp feeling.'

Damon Q braces use 'passive self-ligating' technology, which means the high-tech, shape-memory orthodontic wires are held in place by a sliding gate mechanism, rather than being tied in with elastomeric ties as with traditional braces. This significantly reduces the friction and binding that can occur with elastomeric ties, allowing the teeth to move more freely, faster, and more comfortably. In fact, lab studies show that Damon Q brackets have 99% less friction than traditional elastomer-tied braces. It has also been shown that elastomers collect more dental plaque. Damon Q brackets are designed to be smoother than traditional braces, helping to provide added comfort and prevent scratches and scrapes in the mouth.

Damon Clear braces build on the same framework as Damon Q braces, making use of smooth, self-ligating brackets to improve comfort and speed up treatment times. Instead of medical-grade stainless steel, though, Damon Clear brackets are made from a clear, polycrystalline alumina (a fancy term for ultra-pure, lab-made sapphire) that blends in with teeth and is impervious to staining. This gives Damon Clear brackets a more discreet and aesthetically pleasing appearance with exceptional toughness and long-lasting clarity. They come with all the same advantages of Damon Q brackets with aesthetic appeal, making them very popular with adult and teen orthodontic patients.

Impacted canine: These x-rays show the progression of an impacted canine for a child who came to see us too late. This resulted in damage (root resorption) to all of the upper incisor tooth roots and loss of the upper left lateral incisor tooth. This child would have benefited greatly from early intervention and orthodontic developmental guidance.

Unseen conditions left unnoticed and untreated can expose children to unfavorable consequences that may cause irreversible damage, unnecessary tooth loss, need for jaw surgery, and/or require more invasive, complex treatment later in life. Luckily, most dental and facial developmental issues can be addressed more easily, or eliminated entirely, with conservative and strategic intervention at an appropriate age and stage of development.

Underbite: Underbite correction with a conservative night-time headgear treatment. This type of treatment works best with young children when the jaws still have a lot of growth potential. This young lady would probably have needed jaw surgery later if this was not corrected early.

Impacted teeth can damage the adult teeth next to them. Conditions such as crossbites can cause abnormal jaw growth resulting in the face growing asymmetrically. Unfavorable timing of loss of baby teeth can cause space loss within the dental arch and allow the bite to collapse and increase dental crowding. It is also important to consider the psychosocial impact of providing a child with a smile that they are proud of as they go through some very formative years. These are just a few conditions that should be identified at an early age so that an appropriate course of treatment can be undertaken for these kiddos. While not all kids need early Orthodontic Developmental Guidancein fact, Dr. Housewright does not prescribe early treatment for most childrenit is extremely important that all kids are seen for an orthodontic evaluation around age 7.

Expanders can be used to correct crossbites, alleviate crowding, help with airway/breathing deficiencies, and for use as a foundation with other orthodontic treatment. Expanders are very useful appliances that are used for a number of reasons. Timing of expanders is an important consideration. The amount of force needed for expanders is much lower at a younger age, which is healthier for the teeth and gums, and more comfortable for the patient. Make sure we see your child for evaluation by age 7! When developing your childs treatment plan, Dr. Housewright will determine if an expander is appropriate, and at what age.

Crossbite with lower jaw shift: This young patient had a crossbite that caused his lower jaw to shift to his right to achieve a comfortable bite. Left untreated, the lower jaw would have permanently grown asymmetrically to the right side. An expander was used to correct the problem.
