Dr. Kirby was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Louisvile, Kentucky. He graduated with honors from The University of Kentucky with a B.S. in Biology. While earning his degree, Dr. Kirby worked full time in a pediatric dental office where he first developed his passion for dentistry and working with children. After finishing his undergraduate studies Dr. Kirby continued his education at The University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD). Following his 4 years of dental school, Dr. Kirby matched in his hometown and stayed at The University of Louisville/Norton Childrens Hospital. There he completed an additional two-year post-graduate residency specializing in pediatric dentistry and received a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry as well as a Masters Degree in Oral Science.
Dr. Kirby is committed to providing specialized and comprehensive oral care for infants, children, and adolescents in a friendly, safe, and state-of-the-art environment with a focus on prevention and education for the children and families. He is happy to provide a positive experience and dental home to the children of Naperville and surrounding areas.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Kirby enjoys spending time on the lake and stays very busy with outdoor activities. On any given afternoon you will likely find Dr. Kirby and his large, very friendly chocolate lab named Jaxon at the dog beach!
The care I received as a child from my pediatric dentist helped shape my future; giving me the tools to apply healthy oral hygiene habits at an early age and contributed to the self-confidence that comes with a healthy smile. Receiving the treatment that I did as a kid had a transformative effect on my life and afforded me opportunities I wouldnt have had otherwise. My goal as a pediatric dentist is to pass that gift onward to others. I stand committed to seeing the positive change in childrens view of going to the dentist and my favorite part of the job is seeing an anxious patient become more confident, relaxed, and excited for the next visit.
During a procedure, whether its applying sealants or fixing cavities, we need to isolate the area were working on and keep it dry. Some dentists use rubber dental dams to do this but theyre uncomfortable and leave patients with aching jaws. Not us! We use Dry Shield, an innovative all-in-one device that includes a comfy, child-sized mouthpiece and bite block, suction to get rid of spit and water, a tongue shield, and an oral pathway protector. We can work faster and prevent injury. Plus, its hands-free so the dental assistant can focus on your child while the dentist gets the job done.
The pediatric mouthpieces are made from comfortable, soft silicone and come in different sizes for the perfect fit for every patient. The matching bite block offers support so the jaw doesnt hurt and it gives the dentist improved visibility.
Dry Shield features continuous, hands-free suction letting dental assistants multitask while keeping patients comfortable. There are holes and passageways in the mouthpiece, which further help with removing spit and water.

My daughter has been going here for her braces. She was scared to go at first but after going once she no longer fears her Otho appointments. The techs and doctors have all been wonderful and they are very accommodating scheduling visits around our busy days. I highly recommend IOC.

Taylor is amazing and does wharever she can to help my daughter with major dental anxiety cope during her appointment! Dr. Kirby gives all the options so we can make the best choice for her during her visits. Appreciate everyone's patience, so glad we found them!

I took both of my kids here for a 2nd opinion for work suggested by their previous dentist that I didn't feel was necessary. Dr. Kirby suggested a much simpler treatment which was music to my ears for my more anxious one. He made them both feel great and they now can't wait to come to their next visit. Thank you!!

Dr Kirby was phenomenal!! His bedside manner was exceptional. The level of compassion and patience he had with my 6 year old son was so reassuring and comforting. We have seen him a few times now and he always delivers the same consistent care. He did such a great job building rapport and establishing trust with my son. 100% recommend!

The hygienist and dentist were both exceptional with our sons! This was the first dentist visit for our 3 and a half year old and one and a half year old and the staff helped them feel comfortable and excited for their big visit. Highly recommend!

This office has been amazing for my nervous child who needed several teeth pulled. Dr. Kirby Goodwine was able to ease their fears, was super gentle and we did not need nitrous. The front office was so helpful and kind to us. I would highly recommend them!!!

My grandson had his first visit with Dr Kirby and the dr was very friendly and personable. We really wanted a pediatric specialists so we were happy to find him. The office is super cute and has a theatre and arcade! My grandson really liked Desi and we have already scheduled another appointment for my 1 year old grandson also.

We will not be returning after Dr Jessica Mattern (who no longer works there) made mistakes requiring more dental work for my 6 year old daughter. The communication is terrible. No one talks to each other in the office, the dentists don't even know the other dentists that work there, and they want to do unnecessary treatments $$$$. My son, who is very sensitive has been wonderful for all of his cleanings there. The last visit he got a little antsy near the end and the dentist recommended a papoose. I guess if you really want your kids to hate going to the dentist and like going back all the time for the mistakes they make, this is your place. Don't expect to see the same dentist more than once.

I had an awful experience during my 4 year old son's last appointment. My son is usually little hesitant to show and open mouth but the doctor didn't attempt to make it easy for him and warned me if he continues to do same he will get surgery which was not what I expected to hear. Additionally, nurse was stating he will not get prize since he didn't do good job. Is this kind if service you expect from child specialists ?

Warning all parents to avoid this business at all costs. The dentists were very rude to my son who has anxiety. Instead of trying to create a calming experience, one dentist told him to be quiet because he was scaring other children who were there. During our second visit, they recommended a "papoose," which is just another name for a straight jacket. After being trapped in the "papoose," my child was thrashing and trying to get free. Instead of them saying let's do this another day (at this point it's clearly traumatizing my son), they work on his teeth WHILE he's moving around, causing multiple cuts and scratches around his mouth. The staff is horrible at working with kids. It's no wonder they don't want parents back with the kids during the visits. Go somewhere else and save yourself the trauma our family experienced.

We were so apprehensive about bringing our two year old to the dentist; he has a sensory processing sensitivity and it is very difficult to brush his teeth every day. Dr. Deric was calm and reassuring and did a phenomenal job despite our little guy wiggling and screaming during the examination. We are beyond grateful for his expertise and patience and most of all for giving us new tips and tricks to make the process easier at home.

Have been going here since my daughter was 18 months old. She is now 5 and her brother goes here as well. We love this office for their professionalism , fun happy personalities and kid oriented design with colorful walls and movies . We saw Dr. Deric today and he is so wonderful with children . He put my daughter at ease and explained what he was going to do every step of the way. Keep rocking innovative pediatric dentistry.

I do not write reviews often. Only in really good or terrible situations. This one was a terrible situation. The dentist had a terrible bedside manner and was rude, short and VERY condescending when discussing some cavities that our child had. Never was treated this poorly by any healthcare provider and certainly expected more from a pediatric specialty office. Additionally, we were not given options for how to treat these cavities. Innovative stated the care plan was what it was. However we went for 2nd opinions elsewhere and learned that we did indeed have choices and also that Innovative had suggested more work (ultimately costing ALOT more money) than needed. We will never go back to this office.

1st time here and it was great. They were very accommodating as I had gotten my dates mixed up and arrived the day before my appointment. However they will still able to book an appointment for me albeit an hr later. Which I was incredibly grateful for. The doc and the ladies that cleaned both my kids were very nice to my kids 6&4 and eased whatever anxiety my 4 year old had. They both left there with big smiles and clean teeth. I most certainly highly recommend Innovative Pediatric dental

The best, most caring and high quality people in the industry. My kids can't wait for their next appointments. I had to explain to them that you don't look to get another crown or a cavity, but they enjoyed the experience so much that while they love brushing and now flossing, they don't understand what all the negative fuss is from their friends about going to the dentist. The only Pediatric Dentist you should ever use if your kids futures matter most.

So as of right now they get a 5 :). It was a little tricky to find (I'm not in the area) but once we found it, the staff was very welcoming. Seemed very kid friendly, and the doctor explained everything that would need to happen with my daughters teeth. We will be back to get what needs to be done, and I'm sure my daughter will do just fine (they let you back with them which helped my daughter out a lot). I guess the real test is when I have to bring my son in. (Doesn't care for the dentist) and he's a little guy. But everyone was very nice.
