Dr. Shad Hattaway is experienced with all aspects of dental health and has advanced training in dental case management treatment phasing, and full mouth rehabilitation which examines the functional and aesthetic aspects of the entire mouth, not just one tooth.

Dr. Hattaway is particularly skilled with the replacement of completely or partially missing dentition using dentures with implant attachments. His restorative and prosthodontic interests include single and multi-unit ceramic restorations and veneers. His surgical specialties include extractions with bone grafting for future implant placement. He also has comprehensive knowledge of the effects of severe dry mouth and of the soft tissue side effects of chemo and radiation therapy.

He treats both adults and children and especially enjoys building lifelong relationships with his patients. His commitment to his craft comes from a strong motivation to provide the highest quality dental care.

Dr. Hattaway earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, a leading and innovative school for dental education. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology/animal biology from Idaho State University.

During his residency in advanced general dentistry at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, he focused on full mouth rehabilitation, including dental implants. He also provided comprehensive care to patients at the Seidman Cancer Center, when they were at their highest risk for dental decay due to radiation and chemotherapy. He was awarded the Resident of the Year Award, showcasing his commitment and clinical expertise to the program.

Dr. Hattaway has always had a strong commitment to the community. During dental school, he traveled around the state working at community health clinics. He now volunteers on his days off, providing dental services to low-income families in Tarrant County. That same year, he received the award for the New Dentist of the Year by the Dallas County Dental Society.

Carrollton, TX (October 1, 2020) Dr. Hattaways philosophy is pretty simple. Education is the best form of prevention. He works to put every one of his patients into a maintainable state all by themselves at home. If you cant keep it clean, its not a matter of IF its a problem, but WHEN its a problem. He loves working with parents and children early to help build healthy habits for a lifetime.

In addition to his private practice in Carrollton, Texas, he is the president of the board of directors for a community supported non-profit dental clinic in Arlington. This clinic has a school based educational program that goes around to second, third, and fourth graders in Tarrant county and teaches them good oral hygiene habits and techniques. They complete dental screenings, provide sealants, and give out toothbrushes. For some of these school children, the toothbrush their program gives them is the first one they have ever owned. Dr. Hattaway states, This is where I get really passionate. He follows the adage, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. While this saying was originally referencing fire prevention, many of the same concepts can be applied to our health. Working with parents and children closely is often the solution to avoiding dental health problems all together.

Dr. Hattaway was recognized by the Dallas County Dental Society as New Dentist of the Year in 2017 for his contributions to the organization, the profession of dentistry, and the community in which he serves during his first 10 years of practice.

Indian Creek Dental has been a client of Smart Training since 2017. Here are some thoughts Dr. Hattaway had to share about his experience being a client of Smart Training: My favorite aspect of Smart Training is the consistency it provides to my office. Smart Training is like another employee in the office ensuring we are following all the rules and staying up to date. I appreciate our Senior Compliance Advisor, Rick, because he works hard to be by the book as he helps us, but also praises us for the strides we make towards positive changes towards compliance. Being compliant helps me deliver the safest and most honest care to my patients. Part of our job is to stay compliant, and when we are not being compliant, we are not being completely honest with the standard of care each patient deserves. When it comes to compliance, there are state-required minimums that just make sense. Smart Training gives us advice to help us be above the required minimum standard of care and excel at keeping our office in front of the curve regarding safety & compliance!
