Dr. Akers is a Kansas City native. Shes a 1997 graduate of Shawnee Mission South, a 2001 graduate of Wheaton College in Chicago and a 2006 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She holds memberships in the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Dr Akers grew up sewing, doing needlepoint and embroidery and loves both working with her hands and playing with symmetry, color and design. So, instead of pursing medicine like her mother and grandfather, she was drawn to dentistry because of its fusion of both art and science.
Since receiving her doctorate, Dr. Akers has had the opportunity to practice in an emergency clinic, a rural access to care clinic, small private practices and a large corporate group practice. These experiences helped her clarify her philosophy of care which integrates clinical excellence, superior service and an exceptional patient experience.
In pursuit of these core principles, Dr. Akers has continued her education with some of the finest post-doctoral education programs in the country. She completes more than 100 hours of continuing education annually and is continually seeking new opportunities to learn. This passion for education is reflected in her commitment to educating her patients on the links between oral health and whole body health and wellness.
Karla is our office manager. She is a certified Business Administrative Specialist with 13 years of experience on a dental team. Karlas favorite part about her job is meeting new people from different places of the world.
Originally from Mexico, she moved to Kansas City in 1995. She has been married for 18 years and has 3 children. She enjoys watching her 2 sons play competitive soccer and loves having girly days with her daughter. Always in good spirits, shes ever ready to host family gatherings!
Arletis is Dr. Akerss dental assistant. A native of Cuba, she moved to the US 6 years ago. She loves dancing, Cuban food and shopping for shoes. She became interested in healthcare because she loves meeting new people and being able to help them. We were thrilled to have her join our team in 2019 when she graduated from the Pinnacle Career Institute with a degree in dental assisting. Now she says she wants to be a dentist someday!

In Harmony dental is friendly and takes pride in their work. They listen to your concerns and provide a clear explanation of the issue and options to solve them. They also went out of their way to provide services needed as soon as possible and accommodated a challenging schedule.

Ever since I started going to In Harmony Dental, I have noticed a huge difference in my dental health. They are very straightforward about costs and procedures as well as how to care for your teeth in the future. Compared to dentists in the past, they are very kind and upfront about current dental health as well as how to preserve it. They also show exemplary customer service whenever I am there. I am always greeted with smiles. They work very hard to ensure your dental health and are the kindest people.

Just had my routine cleaning last week and then 2 fillings today with Dr. Akers. Always quick easy in and out within an hour or less. Dr. Akers always make it comfortable and she's very great in explaining the process and giving more consult at the end. Great staff to work with and great quality and quick service perfect for those with busy schedules. Highly recommended for everyone to check out In Harmony Dental. I have absolutely loved working on my dental health with Dr. Akers. She's great at explaining exactly what needs done, how she's doing it, and making you comfortable. I've had multiple cavities and crowns done by her and they've all been easy to get through because of her and her team. The office manager is also amazing, extremely friendly and worked with my difficult schedule and even helped me pick dental insurance so I got the best deal I could. I will be sticking with them as long as I can!

I would highly recommend Dr. Akers and her practice for dental care. She has cared for my family since opening this location and offers a variety of coverage/payment options. She has been communicative, caring, and appts are very easy to make. Worth checking out for quality care.

In Harmony Dental Care is fantastic! I have always had anxiety around going to the dentist but they are great about making it as pleasant as possible.
