Yan Kalika, DMD, MS is a certified specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics and the San Francisco Dental Society.
Dr. Kalika graduated with honors and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California at Berkeley in 1993, majoring in chemistry. While at Berkeley, he was in the Students Honor Society and Golden Key Honor Society.
He received his dental degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1998. In addition, he completed a fellowship in Washington D.C. in the field of dental health policy. While at Harvard, Dr. Kalika served as president of the American Student Dental Association where he received a national award of excellence. He was a lecturer at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard School of Public Health. He received honors in all clinical disciplines at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, the Soma Weiss Research Scholarship and an International Research Fellowship from Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Kalika completed his orthodontic training at the University of California at San Francisco where he received a specialty certificate in orthodontics and facial orthopedics and a masters degree in oral biology. He is committed to providing quality orthodontic treatment while exceeding patients and parents expectations.
As one of the best San Francisco orthodontists for over 20 years, Dr. Kalika also treated the highest number of Invisalign patients of any orthodontists in San Francisco and the Bay Area as well as served as a consultant to Align Technology (the creator of Invisalign) when the company started. He is also an international master in chess, which is the perfect kind of critical thinking you want in your orthodontist. Terrible experience. The staff at the front were rude the moment I walked into the door. They also did not let me know that my appointment was canceled until I got there after sitting through traffic. Avoid!

The CDC is no longer recommending masks; why is Image Orthodontics still insisting on people wearing them? This is an unfriendly and dictatorial policy and I do NOT recommend this orthodontist, because of the mask policy.

I started treatment with Dr. Kalika since the late 90s and now I have my kids in treatment too. Dr. Kalika and his staff provide a world class experience to the patients. His humbleness, dedication and expertise makes the experience of getting braces so easy. I am happy to recommend Image Orthodontics and if I could I would rate Image Orthodontics ten stars instead of five.

The finance staff are fabulous. I think the orthodontist is ok (only met him once, briefly). But the general attitude in the office is very unfriendly, mostly as a result of their hypervigilant covid policies -- temperature check, hand sanitizer, masks, and a stupid form you have to fill out on your phone before coming in. All of it is bunk. Grownups never have to deal with any of this any more -- why do they think they can still get away with torturing children this way? They think kids are "unclean" or something? It's harassment and I'm sick of it.

I am fortunate enough to have had orthodontic work done by Dr. Kalika. He was attentive, knowledgeable, patient and understanding. Answered any questions I had and worked with me to make sure I was satisfied with the results. During COVID, Dr. Kalika and his staff were extremely accommodating with me, specially after I left San Francisco for NYC. If you follow all instructions and partner with Dr. Kalika, you will not regret being a patient of this very professional and friendly practice.
