Thank you for visiting our website. My name is Dr. Izaz Khan and I was born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors Degree in Physiology and Neurobiology, attained a Masters Degree in Biomolecular Sciences from Central Connecticut State University, and attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 2014. I completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY where I was trained in comprehensive dental care and provided treatment to those who served our country within the Armed Forces. I have practiced in various offices throughout the last few years in Hartford and New Haven counties and started IKON Dental Group to return to practice in Central Connecticut. I am glad to be back in Central CT where I call home, to support the community that I grew up in.

My patients know me as a compassionate and trustworthy Dentist who cares about their overall health. I strive to provide the best dental treatment in a comfortable setting. I amcommitted to developing and maintaining long-term relationships with my patients. I invite you and your family to visit our office and allow us to help you with any of your dental needs.

The most common answer to this question is every six months, which most insurance policies allow for. However, the correct answer can depend on many different factors when it comes to your personal health. If youre suffering from things like gum disease, its recommended you see a dentist every three months or fewer. This can be discussed with your dentist in order to find the best treatment plan for you, which can include instructions for at-home care. In short, although the recommendation is every six months, you should determine with your dentist how often you should schedule your checkups.

Youve most likely been to a dentist or even an orthodontist, but a handful of other specializations exist. This can include a prosthodontist, who specializes in designing, building, and placing false replacement teeth. There are many different ways to do this, but the most common methods include dental implants, dentures, crowns, or bridges. Although you may need to see a specialist depending on your situation, some practices and dentists have some training in these procedures. In this case, they may take impressions and order the materials from an outside lab. Its important to know which options are available to you as you seek your treatment options with tooth replacement.

For invasive procedures like a root canal or filing, its important to make sure youre comfortable, which might include the use of a local anesthetic. Although this can be a good thing, it can leave you with a numb mouth afterwards, sometimes making it embarrassing to eat, talk, or be in public. The one sure way for the numbness to dissipate is waiting for it to wear off, but there are some other ways to help it disappear faster. One way is to massage the area in small circles, which helps work the anesthesia away from the area and out of the body. Boosting your blood flow through exercise can also help it leave the area, but be sure to check with your dentist first and make sure its safe.

During your search for a dentist, you might notice some acronyms that are worth knowing. There are generally two designations when it comes to dentists, which are DMD and DDS. DMD stands for Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry, while DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery. These generally require the same education and curriculum and are assigned by the individual dental school, which comes after undergraduate study. To become a specialized dentist, post-graduate training is required in order to become an orthodontist, periodontist, or specialized surgeon. Every licensed dentist must complete continuing education in order to keep their license and remain aware of new techniques and technology.

If you realize youve chipped a tooth, you should see your dentist immediately or get a recommendation if they are not available. You have a few options when it comes to repairing the tooth and these can depend on how severe it is namely, whether only the enamel has broken off or the damage goes deeper. In the case of small breakage, bonding can be performed where a tooth-colored resin is applied over the tooth to shape it back to normal. In the case of severe breakage, a cap or crown can be applied to the end of the tooth, before which any decay or damaged material is removed. A root canal can also be performed if the root of the tooth has been damaged.

A prosthodontist is a specialized dentist who performs procedures that involve replacing lost teeth. These can include implants, dentures, crowns, and bridges. This designation usually means that the dentist has completed post-graduate education and training in order to specialize in their chosen field. However, some practices provide these services in-house or may send impressions to an external lab to have materials made where they can be fitted and placed in-office. Its important to ask about your options if you need these services and are looking for the right dentist or prosthodontist for your treatment.

Needing to have a tooth pulled can seem daunting and scary, but your Bristol dentist will ensure that youre comfortable and educated about the extraction process. Depending on how many teeth are being pulled and how damaged they are, you might require a general anesthesia (meaning youll sleep through the procedure) or a local anesthetic (meaning your mouth will be numbed). Once youre comfortable, the dentist will cut away the gum tissue and bone that hold the tooth in place and gently work the tooth out of the socket. It may require being removed in pieces if the tooth is too damaged. This process will cause bleeding, so your dentist will pack the area with gauze and put pressure on it to help stop any bleeding or clotting. You may even require stitches if the extraction is extensive.

Although your might see different acronyms next to your local dentists names, theres no need to worry about choosing one or the other. The two designations for dentists are DMD and DDS, which stand for Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry and Doctor of Dental Surgery respectively. Despite the difference in names, these two designations are virtually the same and require the same curriculum and education. Certain dentistry schools issue one over the other, but each dentist is still held to the same standards of testing and maintaining their license throughout their practice. Further specializations like orthodontist or periodontist require post-graduate education beyond the DMD or DDS designation.

In the event that you need specialized care for your teeth, its important to know who is the best medical professional for you. While a general dentist can provide general dental care, an endodontist specializes in the soft tissue roots of the teeth. This can be important in the event of trauma or injury to the teeth which might require surgery or a root canal. Although general dentists can and do perform root canals, endodontists perform them exclusively and are required to have two additional years of training on root canal treatments and surgical procedures inside the tooth. Its a good idea to ask for a recommendation from your dentist if you feel you need extra care beyond what they can provide.

Most people need their wisdom teeth removed at some point, but this usually requires specialized treatment beyond what a general dentist can provide. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are commonly sought out for wisdom teeth removal, as well as facial injury, jaw disorder, or reconstructive surgery. Although your dentist may provide some of these services, they may need to refer you to a specialist, in which case its worth it to get more than one recommendation. Asking around your social circle or your insurance provider can help you locate specialists in your area, after which case you can look at online reviews or contact their office to ask questions.

A pediatric dentist in Plainville is similar to a pediatrician in that they have the proper education and training for guiding children through their oral health into their teen years. This specialization requires two additional years of training after dental school and focuses on initial tooth development in infants and young children. This is a highly important period in a persons life when it comes to dental care, as complications can cause a lifetime of dental complications. These specialists can often have training in orthodontics, allowing them to provide early treatment for teeth straightening. Although general dentists may treat children at their practices, pediatric dentists specifically cater to children and their behaviors during exams or treatments, easing any fears or discomforts.

We participate with major dental insurance PPO plans including Delta Dental, Cigna, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to name a few. Please contact our office for specific questions regarding insurance.

Because every patient has different needs, Dr. Khan will recommend a visitation schedule to your needs. Most patients benefit from a biannual visit (every 6 months), though others may need more frequent treatment to achieve and maintain optimum oral health.

At IKON Dental Group youll always receive our undivided attention. We schedule longer exams than most practices, which allows us to spend as much time as we need to provide excellent care. We explain any concerns in detail, review all available options, and ensure that your questions are answered clearly. Some practices just want to see more patients. We want to see more patients achieve healthy, beautiful smiles.

Dr. Khan and his staff are very polite & patient. Just having moved to the area, their customer service and professionalism exceeded any dentist Iv been to in the past. Dr. Khan get on a personal level with his patients getting to know you and how you feel going into this. The process was smooth between quick easy X-ray's, history, dental cleaning, and then a well spoken review of your teeth & any action plans needed going forward. Most say they don't like the dentist but Ikon dental group will surely change your mind!!!

Having fear of going to the dentist is something my husband and I both live with. We decided to give Dr. Khan a try. From the moment we stepped into his office we felt at home. Kindness greeted us and gentleness eased our anxiety. He takes the time to go through each phase of treatment and asked often, are you ok? He took the time to happily answer all our questions. We are so happy and blessed to have found such a gentle dentist that offers us the peace of mind we needed. Plainville is lucky to have such an amazing dentist in our small town. If you are looking for an amazing experience do not hesitate to give his office a call. You will not be sorry. Danielle and Luis

I came across Dr. Kahn when calling my insurance company asking for dentists in my area. I went to him for the first time and he was always been so kind and courteous. I have recommended him to several people as they have asked me where I get my teeth worked on. Recently just had my yearly cleaning and working on getting some fillings done. Always makes sure that you're comfortable and good before he does any work. I have really bad anxiety so he knows my cues and always checks to make sure I'm ok before continuing. Anyone looking for a dentist I would recommend seeing Dr. Kahn for any work that needs to be done.
