As a dentist, I find meeting new people and getting to know them as individuals to be rewarding. The better I understand who a person is, and what they need and want, the better I am able to provide the service they desire. With this process comes many challenges: building trust, showing people I will not judge them, and establishing clear, open communication.

Its that interpersonal side of dentistry that means the most to me. Every person I care for teaches me something new: enriching my knowledge and worldview, giving me a different way of looking at a circumstance, and always pushing me to be a better dentist and person.

I was raised in Yarmouth Port, Cape Cod. Growing up, the arts and sciences were always where I excelled. In fact, I was a music major before I made the decision to study to be a dentist. Working with my hands in the health field gave me the hands-on opportunities I needed, with the additional fulfillment of building relationships within my community.

I attended the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, whereI received my Bachelor in Science. Dental school came next, at Boston Universitys Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where I obtained my Doctorate of Dental Medicine.

I have practiced for about 20 yearsnow, and love my career. It is very satisfying to make a difference in someones life, whether by relieving pain, providing education, restoring function, or improving a smile. My goal is for each patient to leave here healthier and happier, with a smile they are pleased to share.

Through these organizations, I have access to numerous continuing education (CE) opportunities. CE exposes me to new technological advancements and techniques in dentistry. It is crucial tomy professional growth and improves the level of care I deliver to patients.

Like many of my patients, I am very family-oriented and prioritize time with Holly and our children above all else. I used to coach my kids sports, but now they are older and I find I have time for other interests: playing golf, playing my guitar, and enjoying friends and family time on the Cape.

Being a dentist means I get to take care of people. I get to know them: learning about their lives, families, interests, and how they came to live on Cape Cod. Showing a real interest in the person is beyond their oral health needs helps to build trust and communication, as people learn I care about them as individuals.

As a dentist, I am drawn to situations where I can really help people be healthier, feel better about themselves, and enjoy life to the fullest. Aesthetic porcelain/ceramic dentistry is one of my interests, because it can transform a smile and restore a persons confidence.

I also enjoy treating children and ensuring they feel safe in the dental office. Its enjoyable to listen to a childs unique perspective on life while teaching her or him about teeth. Kids willingness and sometimes even excitement to listen and learn, and to just have fun, makes my day!

I grew up in northern Maine. My father was a dentist, so I spent time observing and working in his office. I found myself drawn to dentistry after seeing how my father developed longstanding relationships with his patients and staff. It seemed that being part of a team that truly cares for its patients because they are our friends and community would be fulfilling. Likewise, making a difference in a persons ability and willingness to smile was instilled in me as a child and throughout my education and career.

I attended Wheaton College, where I received a Bachelor of Science. I was accepted at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where I obtained my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Following dental school, I chose to complete a rigorous general practice residency at Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

Having practiced for ten years, I have no doubt I chose the ideal career. Dentistry blends science and aesthetics. I get to be artistic, use my hands to help people, and develop relationships; I get to fulfill my creative side and social side all in one incredible profession!

I have studied a wide range of topics, and focusedon those that are common to our specific patient needs. Implant dentistry is needed in our area, sincemany of our retired patients are of the age and situation where the need to replace teeth is common.

Thus, Ive spent a lot of time focusing on implant restoration, including taking courses with Keystone Dental and Zimmer-Biomet. During the pandemic, Ive spent many hours learning about the spread of disease and infection control, too.

I have called Barnstable and Yarmouth Port home since 2016. My fianc, Stephen, is a special education teacher in Plymouth; we have a baby girl, Naomi. I also have two kids from my first marriage, Oliver and Isabelle. Our family also includes Ducky, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and Prancer, our kitten. Yes, our home tends to be busy!

Time with my family is always a priority. We often play soccer together. I love being active in the great outdoors, especially running, biking, hiking, and skiing. I also love traveling and doing those activities in new-to-me places!

I was an Albert Schweitzer Fellow while in dental school and volunteered my time working with women reentering the work place after incarceration. As part of this process, I provided dental service to improve these womens outward appearance and inner self-confidence.

Prior to the pandemic, I volunteered with Cape Cares, and had the honor of helping underserved dental patients in Honduras. I look forward to resumed traveling and volunteering my dental abilities now that travel restrictions are being lifted.

Also, pre-covid, I volunteered at my kids elementary school in Sandwich. Being around kids who are learning new things and excited about new ideas is such a great source of joy for me, in and out of the dental office.

We recognize that all our patients are unique and deserve to receive dental care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented dental team is committed to working with you and your family to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding dental experience every time you visit our practice.

At Hyannis Harbor Dental, our practice philosophy is to take time to learn about the people we serve. By understanding each persons needs and goals, we are able to provide the necessary treatment to achieve those goals, in a manner that suits the individuals wishes and expectations.

You will never feel like an anonymous patient, revenue source to be exploited, or teeth in a chair when you visit Hyannis Harbor Dental. Instead, you will be greeted by name and cared for with compassion and integrity.

For Dr. Edward Egan, Dr. Danielle Herschler, and our team, dentistry is how we serve our community. Each person who steps through our door is made welcome with warmth and smiles: we are honored to be entrusted with your oral health and want you to feel safe, comfortable, and confident in the care we provide.

Our practice has served Cape Cod for more than50 years and has been operating as Hyannis Harbor Dental, P.C. since 2007. Over the years, we have grown through referrals from our current patients. They speak of the great care we provide, the gentleness of our doctors, and the friendliness of our staff. We are honored by these referrals and are dedicated to maintaining our reputation.

  • Personalized Dentistry: Our doctors and team take time to really listen, learn what you expect from dental care, and develop an understanding your specific concerns and treatment goals. What you need, clinically, may be similar to another persons situation, but how we address that issue will be unique to you.
  • Our Doctors: Beyond their experience and clinical abilities, Dr. Egan and Dr. Herschler are attentive, kind, and nonjudgmental. Rather than dictating treatment or pushing certain services, they will work with you to determine the best dental treatment for the most efficient, comfortable care and beautiful, lasting results.
  • Our Team: We have a close-knit, stable team with very little staff turnover. Both front office and clinical staff members are well-skilled, attentive, and accommodating. They share the doctors dedication to excellence in dental care and customer service.

Wonderful office and staff. After an unexpected dental emergency popped up just before a lengthy international trip, they were able to squeeze me in the next day and promptly addressed the issue. Not only was Dr. Carignan professional and quick, he and his staff were incredibly courteous. While no one enjoys having to deal with an unexpected dental emergency, their service and kindness was exemplary and made what was initially a negative situation a memorable positive experience. Absolutely recommend them.

My husband and I are patients of Dr. Egan and we both are very pleased with the wonderful, gentle and caring attention we get from Dr. Egan, and his wonderful staff. We are very fortunate to have received the recommendation to change to Hyannis Harbor Dental. It has been a great comfort to us to have Dr. Egan as our Dentist, who is always easy to reach when you need care. Thank you, Dr. Egan !

I've had a few appointments with this practice and no complaints towards the dental care I received but always thought something crooked was going on as far as the charges were concerned. Finally I called my dental plan to have them explain a lot to me and YES they were planning to charge me more for a root canal than should be charged for my out of pocket expenses so watch your pocket.

I have been a patient at this dental practice for many years and have found the staff to be very respectful and professional in all the interactions I have had. I have had both minor and more complicated dental procedures. I can say Dr. Egan meticulously explains every option available, tells you if this is a situation that does or does not need immediate intervention. During treatment Dr. Egan explains what he is doing along the way which is great. I have to say every therapy I have had has been painless with the skilled use of novacaine. The dental assistants are very good as well and you can tell by the friendly and light banter between the office staff that they get along and like their jobs. Dr.Egan has called in the evening after more complicated dental work to check in to see how I was doing. That is rare in this day and age and was greatly appreciated at the time, and of course long remembered thereafter! I have to say I have not had post procedure pain-not even the need for Tylenol. I attribute that mostly to Dr. Egan's skill as a practitioner. The other point to make is that Dr. Egan completes the work so quickly that the visits are short- he gets the job done with precision and skill. I have called the office on two separate occasions requesting to have a temporary crown put back on and have been able to get in and out quickly being worked-in between patients. I have met with and/or called Sheri to discuss bills, balances and insurance questions. She has always been pleasant, friendly and professional. Michelle usually answers the phone and she is always bending over backwards to get me an appointment to fit into my full time work schedule. I especially like the appointment reminder calls. If I have had to cancel or reschedule an appointment Michelle, or whoever is answering the phone at the time is always professional and understanding in making the change. I would highly recommend this dental office.

I missed an appointment last week on Tuesday for my daughter due to the fact that I came down with the flu and I have been experiencing complications from it due to suffering from a weakened immune system as a result from a C.Diff infection. I was in the hospital, puking my brains out, hooked up to I.V's and was unable to call them to cancel the appointment. I have since been put on Tamiflu and have been on it for 5 days. I called Hyannis Harbor Dental back this morning to confirm a second appointment that I had set up with them for tomorrow evening and was scolded and disrespected by the receptionist (who is a complete SNOB by the way) for not making the phone call to cancel the appointment and that if I miss tomorrow's appointment they will no longer see my daughter. As if they aren't getting paid. Also, prior to us making it to our first appointment at Hyannis Harbor Dental I had also missed an appointment due to my car breaking down on the way to the appointment!! I was also given an attitude and disrespected for that as well. Things happen in life that are beyond my control or anyone's control for that matter. I don't have a "mommy and daddy" to do everything for me if I can't do it. And if I am sick, in the hospital and puking my brains out the LAST thing I am going to do is pick up the phone. Morons. These people need to seriously get a clue. And an attitude check. I'll be picking up my daughters medical records and I will be seeking out a new dentist with respectful, proffesional receptionists.

Every dentist office should have policies and applied fairly to all patients. The dental practice response to the previous review shows they missed the point. Not surprised certain office staff at Hyannis Harbor Dental acted in a discourteous manner and be disrespectful and have a rude attitude. There are other dental practices on cape who are happy to see patients and will happily accept insurance and patient's money.
