Huntington Beach Endodontics - Endodontist in Huntington Beach, CA

A local anesthetic is given and a rubber dam is placed to isolate your tooth. Then an opening is painlessly made through the top of the tooth. Instrumentscleanout and shape the inside of the root(s) of your tooth. Then your tooth is sealed by placingarubber-type material called gutta percha inside the canals.

If the tooth has had a previous root canal treatment that is failing, we may be seeing you to retreat the tooth. Retreatment involves removing the old leaking material, and then replacing it with new gutta percha.

Our office adheres to the highest standards of infection control, in accordance with the latest CDC, California Dental Board, and OSHA guidelines. We use the most current technology to eliminate the risk of infection.

I had the best experience you can have getting a root canal. Last Monday morning I was an emergency patient in a lot of pain. They not only got me in that morning and worked on me, but Dr Jung apologized that he was unable to finish as he had a business meeting and asked me to come back at 5PM. I did and the Doctor and assistant stayed until 7:40 PM! We were there when the cleaning crew came in. The Doctor and his staff are so professional, kind and caring. I went back today for the final root canal on this tooth for another go around. He was so persistent to (hopefully) save my bridge (had to completely rebuild my tooth underneath) that I have had for 50 years. I have no words to express my deepest gratitude for this office. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Most important I was out of pain immediately!!!

Dr. Chen did a fantastic job on my root canal. My tooth was pretty badly infected and my procedure was complex due to my small, curved roots. We were both surprised by how infected it was because my tooth didn't really hurt that bad and on the x-ray it just looked like a small abscess. I mostly just felt discomfort in my ear, jaw, and neck. I also just generally didn't feel well. As it turns out, my nerve was completely necrotic, which is probably why the tooth itself didn't hurt. I'm just mentioning this because I always associated root canal issues with a sore tooth, but sometimes the symptoms of infected tooth don't show up that way. I thought the pain in my jaw and ear was from grinding my teeth. Lesson: if you're having pain in your jaw, mouth, and ear get your teeth checked out. He did the root canal in two phases. Phase one he cleaned it out and put me on antibiotics. I opted to get the gentlewave treatment which is basically like a supercharged waterpik with suction. It flushed out the infection and deep cleaned the canal. Some of the disinfectant solution did get in my throat which kind of burned. I wasn't sure if I could swallow it, so I accidentally choked on it which freaked me out a bit. However, Dr Chen and the dental tech handled it well. They were very calm. They acted fast, stopped what they were doing and flushed my throat. They reassured me that the solution was not harmful and that nothing bad would happen from swallowing it. I was a bit upset about it but they were awesome and waited until I calmed down before finishing up phase one. They were right, I was fine. It didn't hurt me at all aside from my throat getting a little irritated. I'm sharing this so if it happens to you, I can assure you it's not going to hurt you. Even though is an extra out-of-pocket service, I feel it was worth getting. I do think it helped in my recovery and made the healing process less painful compared to other root canals I've gotten. I had some moderate pain for about 6 days while my infection cleared up and my tooth healed. Much better compared to the last time I had a root canal on a similar tooth by a different Endodontist which had me in severe pain. In phase two he cleaned out the tooth again and filled it. He was able to get my difficult roots filled perfectly. I also opted to get the CT scan of my tooth which I believe assisted Dr. Chen in doing that. I was only mildly sore for about 2 days. Now I feel perfectly fine. My tooth doesn't hurt and I don't feel sick anymore. I know this is a long review, but root canals suck. No one likes them. It's nice when you find a doctor who is very good and has a great bedside manner that helps ease your anxiety. Hopefully I won't need to see him again, but if I do at least it puts my mind at ease that it will be done right.

Dr. Jung exceeded all expectations in patient care. His communication throughout the dental procedure put my mind at ease, there was minimal discomfort, he saw me the same day as my dental emergency, and the procedure's outcome was successful. Highly recommended!
