Dr. Zola Makrauer maintains a full time dental practice and has been treating families for over 30 years in the Philadelphia area. Dr. Makrauer graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelors degree in psychology and the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University. He has had extensive training in cosmetic, esthetic and reconstructive implant dentistry. He is also a part time clinical instructor at the Kornberg School of Dentistry. Dr. Makrauer lectures nationally and internationally to educate other dental professionals in the area of implant restorative dentistry.
Dr. Makrauer strongly believes in the proven concepts of the team approach, not only with his own team members, but also with the specialty teams with which he works. In addition, he has been published in the national peer review dental journals, The Compendium and the Starget.
Dr. Makrauer has been married to his wife Susan for over 30 years. They have one son, Kyle. Dr. Makrauer is passionate about dentistry, teaching, skiing, swimming, photography, and tennis. He has also been involved with many charitable organizations including A Womens Place and MOM-PA Dental Missions which is the largest free dental clinic in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Julie Miller joined Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts in July 2017. She grew up in Media, Pennsylvania. She attended the University of Pittsburgh where Julie earned her Bachelor of Science degree and certificate in Dental Hygiene. Julie worked as a hygienist for 4 years before advancing to Temple Universitys Kornberg School of Dentistry to become a dentist. Dr. Miller graduated summa cum laude and possesses dual certification as an RDH (Registered Dental Hygienist) and DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry). Dr. Millers previous education and work experience provide emphasis on prevention and patient-centered care. Her expertise and passion for dentistry mirrors that of Dr. Makrauer.
Dr. Miller enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her family. Her interests and hobbies include reading, running, eating, and vacationing in Ocean City, New Jersey. She also loves dogs and greeting cards too! And against her own best judgment, she is still an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Barb is currently our office coordinator, or office cheerleader as she is sometimes described. She is happy to be with such an amazing team and it definitely shows. She has been part of the practice for seventeen years, initially as Dr. Makrauers chairside assistant. Now you will find Barb assisting right at our front desk. Her position allows her people skills to shine. She cares for our existing and new patients with a listening ear, a helpful hand and a BIG SMILE! Barb has four grown children and three grandchildren of which she is so proud. She enjoys reading, walking, boating and being at the beach!!
Beth is our registered dental hygienist. She was born and raised in Philadelphia. She received her degree as a registered dental hygienist in 1989 from Philadelphia Community College and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. She has been on staff with Dr. Makrauer since 1987. She is also a member of the Greater Philadelphia Dental Hygiene Study Club. She has dedicated her career to providing her patients with the most comprehensive dental care available today. She is a compassionate and caring individual. Our patients rely on her to inform, educate and assist them in maintaining excellent dental health.
Betsy is a dental assistant here at Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts. She has been with the practice for over ten years. She completed her certification at Delaware Valley Academy. Betsy has five siblings as well as three children of her own. Family is very important to her. In Betsys words, I believe the best way to serve our patients is to administer the best care possible and treat them as we would treat our own family.
Stephanie is Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts newest team addition. She is an EFDA. This stands for an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant. She has been specially trained to perform dental procedures along with Dr. Makrauer and Dr. Miller. Stephanie began in the dental field at the age of 14. She obtained her dental license in 2011 graduating from Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA. She is constantly learning and expanding her dental skills primarily with anterior restorations. She enjoys spending time with her husband and her daughter and her Australian Shepherd, Mason. We welcome her wholeheartedly to our office and hope to spend many years together!

Great experience. I have been a patient here for many years and would highly recommend this practice. This past weekend I had an emergency where my crown in the front of my mouth broke off and Dr Miller and Betsey came in and opened the office on the weekend to help me with my emergency. Could not be more grateful!

The entire team is A+++. I had seen a number of other dentists over the years and was really disappointed. Their equipment, training, staff, customer service, everything is exceptional. Their office is 35 minutes away from my house and it is so worth the trip every time.

Dr. Makrauer and Beth were so thorough and attentive to my dental care needs and at explaining things clearly and concisely. I've been going here ever since I was a child and have always received the top-of-the-line work anyone would want. I always look forward to coming into the office to have my teeth cleaned; staff always have a smile on their face to greet you when you walk through the door. This visit I had the pleasure to meet Dr. Miller, the office's new doc! She was very personable and made me feel right at home. I would recommend anyone here in a heart beat and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else!!

I highly recommend Huntington Valley Dental Arts. From the time I arrived all COVID-19 protocols were in place as I felt very safe. I've been a patient for over 25 years. My prior visit with Beth "hygienist" discovered a cavity that required a second visit. As mentioned I've been with HVDA for many years because of the high quality dentistry. I had my first visit with Dr. Miller. Knowing Dr Makrauer would only have the best I knew I was in good hands. She was very receptive and was able to answer all my questions and made me feel very comfortable. It was a very pleasant experience. The whole entire office and staff is outstanding.

During Covid, I was afraid to go to the dentist. When I found out everyone at Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts were all vaccinated, I made my appointment. I was so impressed by all precautions in the office. Everyone seemed fully protected and I felt very comfortable. I was glad that I could continue my dental upkeep because Dr Zola Makrauer and his staff followed all guidelines.

This is a wonderful office. The staff is welcoming, warm, and sincere. I am a very anxious patient under normal circumstances, and I needed some fairly extensive work after not having been to a dentist for a few years. I love everyone in this office. As someone who has had more dental work than 10 people (25 root canals, etc), I finally feel I found the right office. Dr. Makrauer is an artist and is very calming. This is not a patient factory like so many others. 5 stars from me.
