A lifelong Texan, Dr. Richard D. Hulme was raised in Houston. He left Texas briefly to attend college at Brigham Young University, and then returned to pursue seven years of dental and orthodontic training at the nation's top dental school here in San Antonio.

Dr. Hulme is a member of numerous dental and orthodontic professional and research associations, including the San Antonio District Dental Society, Alamo Orthodontic Study Group and the local chapter of the American Association of Dental Research. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and was in the first class of orthodontists to be board certified during specialty training. Dr. Hulme enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, Boy Scouts (he is an Eagle Scout), church, musicandsports.

Dr. Hulme considers it his personal obligation to provide the highest quality orthodontic care to his patients. He was among the first class of orthodontists to earn the prestigious board certification by the American Board of Orthodontics during specialty training. This attests to his commitment to orthodontic education and his ability to deliver quality patient care. Dr. Sandra Nairooz was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt where she received a Bachelors Degree in Dental Surgery from Ain Shams University. After moving to the United States in 2011, she attended State University of NY at Buffalo and received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS). She later completed a one-year fellowship in Orthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Upon completing the program, she started her dental career in San Antonio, where she practiced for over 5 years before completing her Orthodontic Residency program at Jacksonville University.

Dr. Nairooz is passionate about creating the best smile for patients of all ages. She likes staying up to date with the latest advances in orthodontics and creating healthy smiles with an emphasis on airway diagnoses. Her attention to detail, honesty, and desire to educate patients and engage with them on an individual basis all ensure that her patients have an outstanding and enjoyable experience.

During her free time, Dr. Nairooz enjoys traveling with her husband Andrew and her two kids, Luke and Celine. Her husband is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon here in San Antonio and together they are active members of their church and volunteer their time for various charitable community events.

Braces relyon brackets and wires to apply force to the teeth, aligning them over time. The hardware is periodically adjusted to exert the right amount of pressure needed to straighten teeth and properly align the patient's bite.

While Invisalignclear aligners provide the most subtle form of orthodontic treatment, they are not suitable for everybody. San Antonio patients with moderate to severe misalignment will typically receive better results from traditional braces.

Younger patients respond well to traditional braces, while teens and adults may prefer Invisalign clear aligners. However, teens may lose their Invisalign trays, or senior patients may struggle with removing and replacing them throughout the day. Fixed brackets are typically recommended for patients who fall under these categories.

Patients must follow a strict daily brushing and flossing routine. You should brush your teeth and clean your braces after every meal because food and bacteria can easily become caught between brackets and wires. To properly clean your teeth, you will need an interdental brush.

At the end of your braces treatment, you will have a straight, healthy, attractive smile. To ensure the results are long-lasting, you will need to wear a retainer for a prescribed amount of time to support the new positions of your teeth. Retainers aretypically made from plastic and metal wire, and they can be cracked or warped if you don't handle them with care. Store your retainer in a hard-shell container to reduce the risk of damage, and clean around the malleable areas carefully so you don't bend the wire.

Just like braces, your retainer will need occasional adjustments from our orthodontist. The doctors will want to check the fit and positioning of your retainer to ensure it is effectively supporting your teeth.
