Hello, my name is Karen Hughes. I started this practice with the idea of providing modern dentistry to the entire family, from Great-Grandma to the toddler, while trying to make the experience as comfortable as possible. I genuinely enjoy practicing dentistry and the highlight of my day is when a patient says That didnt hurt at all! or Thats way better than it used to be! or when they actually fall asleep during treatmentthat takes being very relaxed!
I actually grew up in Mount Washington, Kentucky, from birth to high school graduation, and then attended the University of Louisville for both Undergraduate and Dental School. I graduated University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 2005 and purchased a small two-room dental practice from my professor Dr. Ryan Noble in my hometown of Mount Washington. I practiced in this small office space for 5 years before moving to our beautiful new office down the road in 2010. I absolutely love the small town feel of Mount Washington and all of the special people that live here.
When not caring for patients, I spend my time with my husband of 10+ years Kenny Hughes, a biology teacher and coach at Bullitt East High School, and my children Easton and Ellie. My hobbies include running (completed my first full marathon in 2014), gardening, photography, and following UofL sports.
We also provide the latest in dental technology. We only use digital x-rays, which provide the lowest dose of radiation possible, and allows us to share your x-ray image with you. We also utilize intraoral photography (pictures of your teeth) to show you exactly what we see. We wont work on your mouth without showing you an image and explaining exactly why! Additionally, we provide ourselves on using only the best dental materials and dental labs available.

They are professional and friendly. My grandson loves to go for a cleaning. We have been using Dr. Hughes since he was in the 2nd grade. Once I went by myself and he wanted to know why he didn't get to go as well. From then on it's been a date for us.

Dr. Hughes's practice uses current and cutting edge equipment. This allows their amazing staff to give the best treatment possible. If you are shopping around for a different dentist, you would be doing you and your family a great service by allowing Dr. Hughes to meet your dental needs.

I've been going to this office for a few years for cleanings but for the first time I had a tooth problem in between cleanings. I called in the morning, they got me right in and found the problem.

Everyone at Hughes Family Dental is fantastic. I have a lot of anxiety with anything dentistry related. They are so comforting, understanding, and informative of everything they do. From the time you walk in and get a warm greeting, to the cleaning by the excellent hygienists, and working with Dr. Hughes, who is wonderful - I guarantee you'll have a welcoming experience.

My previous dentist quit practicing and I have been on the hunt for a new dental home. Fortunately, my fiends told me about Dr. Hughes and I had my first visit today. I can't say enough great things about this practice. Everyone was extremely welcoming and the entire process was quick, painless, and thorough. Dr. Hughes even shot my friend--the one who referred me and happened to have an appointment, too--with the water gun for me. Can't beat that for service. Ten stars. Highly recommend.

After close to 15 years of avoiding the dentist due to past traumatic experience and wanting to set a good example for my also-afraid-of-the-dentist kid, I booked an appointment with Dr Hughes. I'm so glad I did! The staff is warm and friendly; they don't do anything without explaining what they're doing in detail. The hygienist stopped during my cleaning to make sure I was okay several times. They took me back exactly at my appointment time, so I know they're efficient, but there was nothing about my appointment that felt rushed in any way. It's one of the few times I've been to any medical provider and haven't felt like cattle being moved through. They took their time, and were very kind and thorough, and cured me of 25 years of dentophobia. Thank you so much, Dr Hughes and staff!

Hughes Family Dentistry is the only place i will go. Dr. Hughes is great. She's very gentle and soft spoken.She takes her time with you ,talks to you and answeers your questions.She looks up your insurance while you are there if you need to know how much you need to pay. I;ve been with her for years and i'm staying.
