No pun intended, but I am wired to be an orthodontist! I so enjoy problem solving and working towards a common goal with each patient: a smile theyll be proud to show off. I tell each of my patients we are a team and together we can achieve wonderful results. Each patient presents with a unique concern and orthodontic problem, and seeing the process through to fruition and the sense of achievement our patients feel is extremely satisfying.

I am a third-generation orthodontist, so smiles really do run in the family! My father was an orthodontist in Dothan, AL for more than 25 years, and he so enjoyed his profession that it made a lasting impression on me. Orthodontics is funwe like to keep things light hearted and happybut it is also so personally rewarding and satisfying to work with children and adults to achieve the ideal result they have longed for.

I have been helping patients achieve healthy, beautiful smiles in the same office location in Birmingham since 2001. I earned my Doctorate of Dental Medicine from The University of Alabama School of Dentistry (UAB) and completed specialized training in orthodontics at The University of Pennsylvania, where I performed clinical research published in The Journal of Clinical Orthodontics.

Meeting and exceeding continue education requirements allows me to stay abreast of the most current and efficient orthodontic treatment modalities, as no two treatment plans are the same. Individualized, customized care that is specific to each patients condition must incorporate proven mechanics, and those are best learned through education at orthodontic specific lectures and meetings with peer group orthodontists, which I attend regularly.

I am also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Alabama Association of Orthodontists, and the Birmingham District Dental Society, all of which offer professional development and educational opportunities.

The Birmingham community has been so good to me, and I try to give back in whatever ways I can. Each year, we see a number of children from under-served areas in Birmingham who cant afford orthodontics and treat them on a complimentary basis. These cases are especially rewarding to me as some of these adolescents, now adults, have kept in touch with me after completing college and entering a career. I feel however small of a part I played in that, that I received far more than I gave.

My commitment to making a difference in peoples lives also extends past my work in the office. My family and I are members of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, where I have served on numerous committees and served as Senior Warden. I am also a board member of BigTime Ministries, a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, and a past board member of Pre-School Partners, MPower Ministries, and the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce.

My wife Joanna and I have three children: Anna, a college student at Yale University, James, a student at Texas Christian University, and Henry, a student at Mountain Brook High School. Our Labrador Belle keeps us on our toes as well.

Melissa is our practice coordinator and she is the wizard behind the curtain who makes the office run so efficiently. Her job is to help new and current patients have a good experience in our office. She loves getting to see all the smiling faces that come into our office every day. Best of all, Melissa thinks Dr. Hufham is great and tells the best jokes!

Melissa and her husband Graham were married in 2018. They have a daughter, Emma Frances, and two dogs, Pennyand Gracie.Melissa loves going to Orange Theory Fitness and hanging out with friends and family!

Our clinical staff features Kaley, for whom no task is too difficult and who is the kindest person weve ever met. Kaley loves getting to know her patients! Since they visit every few weeks, she really gets to know people and creates friendships. Kaley also loves seeing how happy patients are at the end of their treatment. It makes her happy that we can boost someones confidence with a smile they can be proud of!

Kaley has been married to her high school sweetheart, Jamison, for almost four years. They have a dog named Bud, and he is their pride and joy! Kaley and Jamison love to hang out with friends and family on the weekends, grilling out, and going to the lake.

Macey is our longest tenured team member and we can assuredly say she is as skilled a technician as anyone has ever worked with. She began working with Dr. Hufham in 2016 after graduating from UAB. Having braces later in high school and into college sparked her interest in the dental field as a career. Braces made a huge impact on her life and she wanted to play a role in doing that for others! Macey loves seeing the joy braces bring to the patients and their happiness when they see their results!

Callie is one of our newer team members and brings more than 20 years of experience in the dental field, serving as our primary practice relations coordinator. She greets patients with a smile when they come in the door and is available to assist in everything from presenting contracts and verifying insurance to communicating with referring dental offices. Callie loves the energy of Dr. Hufham and our team and is a great addition to it!

Gayle began her career in dentistry in San Diego, CA where her husband was a Marine. She has the mentality of a Marine as well, in that she wants to do her best at all times with little to no fanfare. Gayle is great at the clinical aspects of her job, but really excels at fostering relationships with patients, their families, and the rest of her team.

Gayle and her husband Jordan have been married for almost five years. They have two dogs, Cooper and Jax. In their free time, they like to explore new restaurants in the Birmingham area and spend time with friends and family.

Kahlyn is the newest member of our team, and her easygoing personality makes her a favorite of many of our younger patients who are quickly at ease working with her. She graduated from Jefferson State Community Colleges dental assistant program in 2017 and joined our team in 2021. Her favorite thing is getting to take a patients braces off and seeing how happy they are with their new smile!

Kahlyn and her husband Blake have been married for three years and have a baby girl named Oakley and a dog named Albert. They love to spend time at the lake and the beach together with their families and friends.
