February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I have recently made a change in who I trust in my dental needs. I have visited a few times in recent months to the clinic in Rincon GA. I did not know that any dental clinic could possibly provide such complete dental care with the most pleasant staff I could imagine. I have already been telling others of this great service in our area. The care has been nothing but the best. I would not hesitate to give them thumbs up to anybody looking for the best in dental care.

I wanted re explain my 5 star rating. I have had some bad experiences with dentists, lost 6 or 7 teeth that nothing was wrong with them because of these BAD dentists. But Dr. Han is doing a good job helping me. I will miss the young Lady in the front office since she has left. :)

What an awesome team. From the front desk and tech they ran it like a well oiled machine. I had an emergency. My front tooth fell out!! They got me in immediately. Dr. H. Was able to give me a temporary fix. The office was very clean! They also explained everything. I will be their patient from now on. Thank you so much!

I have had the same hygienist since I've been going to Howard. She's outstanding. She has never nicked me once. She goes over everything with you before your cleaning. Great person. The out check clerk is great as well. She very friendly and knows most customers by name. She goes over your bill in detail with you. And if she need to get back with you for any reason. She does so in a timely manner. She has such wonderful customer service. Great place always clean.

This place is the worst! Had a 9am dental app to get my teeth cleaned after xrays and measuring my teeth the lady asked me hiw bad my gums bleed when I brush my teeth? I said my gums never bleed when I brush my teeth. Then she says I can tell by the xrays that you have gingivitis and bone loss. So the cleaning I needed for my teeth was not the normal preventive cleaning and that she needed a hour to clean each side of my teeth. Informed me that my insurance did not cover the cleaning I needed and my cost to clean my damn teeth was 1568.00! I wannna know as a buisness owner myself when is the last time they sold a patient a 1600 dollar cleaning? The people working in here are unprofessional inexperienced and rude. I said well just give me the preventive cleaning I was told oh that wouldnt do any good for your teeth as I laughed to not curse smiled took my paperwork and now I am dealing with my insurance company letting them know not to pay them a dime. Horrible place will never ever go there again.

Horrible experience. I normally go to the Pooler office, however being this one is closer I decided to schedule an appointment with the Rincon office. Scheduled an appointment online and received a confirmation. Arrived early to my appointment and the lady at the desk says yes we called you several times and your number was disconnected so we cancelled your appointment and need to reschedule. I proceeded to show them the confirmation I received in my email and she said that does not matter they needed to reach me by phone. The number they had was incorrect and off by a digit, so I asked if you called me several times with no response why didnt you just email me using the same email the confirmation came to, and she just looked at me. I then asked when are you rescheduling me for in which she did not provide an answer but rather just looked at her screen, so I said never mind ma'am I will just go back to the Pooler place. This is horrible, she did not care, so I am at a place in life that I am taking this as a sign for how they operate their business. AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE RUDE SERVICE. I truly am surprised as I thought all of the Howard Family Dental groups would be the same.
